Using several crossover operators should be an effective approach for improving the performance of an evolutionary algorithm. This paper studies the effect of the use of two crossover operators on MOEA/D-DRA for multi-objective optimization. It considers two crossover operators, namely, simplex crossover operator (SPX) and center of mass crossover operator (CMX). The probability of the use of each operator at each generation is updated in a adaptive way. The preliminary experimental results have indicated that this approach is promising.","PeriodicalId":403291,"journal":{"name":"2010 UK Workshop on Computational Intelligence (UKCI)","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-11-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123965712","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We recently defined an alpha-based extension principle for type-2 fuzzy sets. In this paper we investigate the use of the alpha-extension principle to define uncertainty measures for type-2 fuzzy sets. We investigate cardinality, similarity, and subsethood for type-2 fuzzy sets and demonstrate when the alpha-plane representation can be used.","PeriodicalId":403291,"journal":{"name":"2010 UK Workshop on Computational Intelligence (UKCI)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-11-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115669305","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It enables employees to suggest their own preferences in the schedule. Employee involvement in this approach is modelled by adding to the employer's objective an additional objective that represents the overall employees' satisfaction rate. Thus, the scheduling problem becomes a biobjective optimization problem, where the task is to maximize both organizational objective(s) and employees' satisfaction level. In this paper, this problem is approached by a Pareto based local search metaheuristic, Guided Pareto Local Search (GPLS) which is an extension to the guided local search to contain multiobjective scenarios. Computational experiments show the effectiveness of GPLS, compared to a standard Pareto local search and a single-objective optimizer.","PeriodicalId":403291,"journal":{"name":"2010 UK Workshop on Computational Intelligence (UKCI)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-11-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131199063","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, using singleton fuzzification assumes that the input measurements are clean signals with no noise or uncertainty associated with them. The vast majority real world applications have high values of noise and uncertainty associated with the sensor and input values. Higher order Fuzzy Logic Systems (FLSs) such as interval type-2 FLSs have been shown to be very well suited to dealing with the high levels of uncertainties present in the majority of real world applications. However, it seems a paradox to use type-2 FLS to handle the encountered uncertainties while assuming that the input values to the type-2 FLS are perfect inputs when considering singleton fuzzification. Hence, we propose a hybrid approach, which employs non-singleton type-2 FLS where the inputs will be modeled by type-2 fuzzy sets to handle the numerical uncertainties, while the antecedent and consequent type-2 fuzzy sets in the type-2 FLS will be used to handle the linguistic uncertainties. One of the main problems in non-singleton fuzzification is to determine the shape and the parameters of the input variables and things get complicated when employing type-2 fuzzy based input variables. In this paper, we will present a novel method which is data driven to generate interval type-2 fuzzy sets to model the input variables in non-singleton type-2 FLS. The paper will report on various experimental results employing the proposed method to generate type-2 based fuzzy input variables.","PeriodicalId":403291,"journal":{"name":"2010 UK Workshop on Computational Intelligence (UKCI)","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-11-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125253450","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As part of this paper, we are providing an overview of the said transition and discuss the requirement for an operation which allows to generate a single type-2 fuzzy set from multiple type-1 fuzzy sets. In this context, we discuss the limitations of the often cited union operation and establish an operation which we tentatively refer to as the Collection operation. We will provide details on the interpretation of this new operation as well as examples and mathematical implementation details.","PeriodicalId":403291,"journal":{"name":"2010 UK Workshop on Computational Intelligence (UKCI)","volume":"70 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-11-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126393660","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As the name suggests, depth constraint crossover adds a depth constraint on the selection of crossover point. This method is motivated by the analysis of removal bias bloating theory. In this paper, we quantitatively define removal bias as the depth difference between swapped subtrees in crossover. Experiments show that the removal bias defined can be widely observed in GP problems and it is strongly correlated to the growth of population size. We find that by limiting the maximum depth difference between subtrees swapped in crossover with depth constraint crossover, it is possible to greatly reduce the removal bias and hence effectively control bloating. To analyze the efficiency of depth constraint crossover, we compare the technique with koza-style depth limiting method on four different problem domains. Experiment results show that the new technique are very effective in controlling bloating while still maintaining fitness.","PeriodicalId":403291,"journal":{"name":"2010 UK Workshop on Computational Intelligence (UKCI)","volume":"79 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-11-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126327632","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In particular, LTE networks are susceptible to inter-cell interference which is experienced when two neighboring cells transmit on the same portion of the frequency spectrum. We propose an adaptive scheduler that can be adopted by LTE networks to minimize inter-cell interference; the scheduler can itself be optimized for the prevailing network environment by using evolutionary algorithms. We describe this scheduler along with a number of experiments that explore its optimization in a number of network environments. In particular we find that either single-objective or multiobjective evolutionary algorithms find parameterisations for the adaptive scheduler that lead to mean throughput for users and sectors that is comparable to established schedulers, but with significantly improved performance for the users at the 5th percentile of throughput.","PeriodicalId":403291,"journal":{"name":"2010 UK Workshop on Computational Intelligence (UKCI)","volume":"71 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-11-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127388317","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In reliability design, in order to improve system reliability and safety requirements, a redundancy component is added to a most efficient subsystem, in which the ratio of the increase of reliability to the increase of resources is maximal. This idea is introduced into the SCGA and a proper species is selected for mutation in order to maximally improve the SCGA efficiency. After each generation, the SCGA will determine species from populations and find the solutions from species. Species mutation mutates a selected species. Some numerical tests show that this simple technique can greatly decrease objective evaluations for the SCGA in searching solutions of the test problems.","PeriodicalId":403291,"journal":{"name":"2010 UK Workshop on Computational Intelligence (UKCI)","volume":"21 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-11-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125398229","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A diverse set of behaviours were evolved using the same GP setup in three different versions of the game. The results show that GP is able to evolve controllers that are well-matched to the game used for evolution and, in some cases, also generalise well to previously unseen mazes. For comparison purposes, we also designed a controller manually using the same function set as GP. GP was able to significantly outperform this hand-designed controller. The best evolved controllers are competitive with the best reactive controllers reported for this problem.","PeriodicalId":403291,"journal":{"name":"2010 UK Workshop on Computational Intelligence (UKCI)","volume":"115 5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-11-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125748723","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
