The aim of this work was to analyze the constitutive heterochromatin (C-Het) pattern of karyotypes in four diploid Zephyranthes species. For this purpose, a cytomolecular analysis of the karyotypes of Z. andalgalensis (2n = 2x = 12 = 4 m + 2 sm), Z. chacoensis (2n = 2x = 12 = 3 m + 2 sm + 1 st), Z. robusta (2n = 2x = 12 = 3 m + 2 sm + 1 st), and Z. pedunculosa (2n = 2x = 14 = 1 m + 3 sm + 3 st) was performed for the first time. All the species analyzed showed CMA+ terminal bands that could be distinguished by their heterochromatin pattern. Interestingly, DAPI+ interstitial bands were also found in the karyotype of Z. robusta. The four Zephyranthes C-Het patterns analyzed show that diploid species have little GC-rich heterochromatin, which is generally associated with terminal satellites, and that AT-rich heterochromatin is rare. The dysploidy evolutionary change between two basic chromosome numbers (x = 6 and 7) is discussed in the present study.","PeriodicalId":39378,"journal":{"name":"Darwiniana","volume":"86 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135505339","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The latter was recently reduced from a species to subspecies based on morphological similarity to the former. However, for an adequate taxonomic ranking of these names (two species, one species with two subspecies, or one without subspecies), additional studies are needed, conducting analyses of different types of data. Here, we provide evidence for a new classification of these names by contrasting results obtained from different phylogenetic, ecological niche, and morphological analyses. For this purpose, we analyzed gene and species trees using nrITS and plastid data, compared the climatic niche and geographic range of both subspecies, and analyzed morphological variation associated with these names. Based on the results obtained, we here decided to synonymize subsp. pycnophylloides with X. patagonica.","PeriodicalId":39378,"journal":{"name":"Darwiniana","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"136208552","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The objective of this work is to characterize the honeys by botanical and geographical origin through the palynological analysis of samples collected in 14 apiaries. Ninety six honey samples were obtained during three beekeeping periods from 2009 to 2012. The conventional methodology was used, taking into account the acetolysis technique. The pollen spectrum of the honeys allowed us to recognize 126 pollen types, belonging to 57 families of Angiosperms and comprising 65% of the floristic survey. Monofloral honeys were obtained in spring with dominant pollen of Eugenia uniflora (dominant pollen range: 45% - 85%), Neltuma sp. (45% - 61%), Geoffroea decorticans (52%) and Sarcomphalus mistol (47%). At the end of spring and beginning of summer, monofloral honeys were identified with the dominant pollen of Copernicia alba (50% - 98%), while at the end of summer with the pollen of Schinopsis balansae (45% - 68%) and Tessaria integrifolia (52%). The botanical families most represented in the honeys were: Anacardiaceae, Arecaceae, Myrtaceae, and Rhamnaceae. The pollen spectrum of Formosa honeys showed the diversity and floristic richness that characterizes the vegetation of the native forest and wetland areas.","PeriodicalId":39378,"journal":{"name":"Darwiniana","volume":"2014 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135649809","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

(Compositae: Cichorieae) for Uruguay is presented. Specimens from the main herbaria of the country were reviewed, field trips were carried out to study the species “in situ” throughout the country, and all reference publications and original material for each species were reviewed. A list of all species present in Uruguay is included together with their respective synonyms, expanded descriptions, distribution maps, habitat and phenological data, taxonomic and nomenclatural observations, as well plates with images and illustrations highlighting the most relevant morphological characters of each. Additionally, dichotomous and virtual keys are provided for the identification of the sections, series and species of the genus in Uruguay. The genus Hypochaeris in Uruguay comprises 11 species, two exotic (Hypochaeris sect. Hypochaeris), and nine native to the territory (Hypochaeris sect. Phanoderis), two of which are considered priorities for conservation in Uruguay. The name H. rosengurttii is reinstated as a species and the species H. pampasica is recorded for the first time in the country, while H. lutea and H. neopinnatifida are excluded. The taxonomic complexities surrounding the name H. microcephala are discussed, as well as the presence of hybrid taxa within the genus and their taxonomic implications.","PeriodicalId":39378,"journal":{"name":"Darwiniana","volume":"175 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135318241","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
