Three beamspace transformations that rely on array interpolation, phase adjustment, and Toeplitz induced mapping are compared in the context of pulse to pulse space-time adaptive processing. The paper presents recommendations regarding the applications of these algorithms in STAP and presents a comparison in terms of performance, computer processing time, and robustness.","PeriodicalId":391546,"journal":{"name":"IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society International Symposium. 1999 Digest. {"title":"Inflatable microstrip reflectarray antennas at X and Ka-band frequencies","authors":"John Huang, A. Feria","doi":"10.1109/APS.1999.788274","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1109/APS.1999.788274","url":null,"abstract":"Inflatable antenna technology is being developed by JPL/NASA to enable the capabilities of low mass, high packaging efficiency, and low-cost deployment for future spacecraft high-gain and large aperture antennas. One of the technologies being considered is the inflatable microstrip reflectarray. A conventional inflatable parabolic reflector antenna will offer similar advantages with the added capability of wide electrical bandwidth. However it suffers from the difficulty of maintaining its required large, thin, and curved-parabolic surface in the space environment. Since the microstrip reflectarray has \"natural\" flat reflecting surface, it is much easier to maintain the required surface tolerance using an inflatable structure. This is the primary reason, despite its narrow bandwidth characteristic, that the inflatable microstrip reflectarray is being studied. This article discusses an already-developed one-meter X-band inflatable microstrip reflectarray and a three-meter Ka-band inflatable microstrip reflectarray which is currently under development. Both antennas' RF structures are designed at JPL and their mechanical inflatable structures are designed and manufactured at ILC Dover, Inc.","PeriodicalId":391546,"journal":{"name":"IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society International Symposium. 1999 Digest. By using the black-hole approach the fields inside the innermost region of the structure are expressed in terms of only inward propagating waves, which corresponds to having an ideal termination (black hole) on axis. The calculated reflection from a dielectric cylinder and a dielectric tube show good agreement with the results obtained by using geometric optics.","PeriodicalId":391546,"journal":{"name":"IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society International Symposium. 1999 Digest. We adapted the SIBC to the eigen-function expansion. We have already presented the H polarization case in Sato and Shirai (1998). So the formulation is extended and derived here for the E polarization case. In order to check the validity of this approximation, numerical calculations have been done for various parameters. Differences between the E and H polarizations have been also discussed.","PeriodicalId":391546,"journal":{"name":"IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society International Symposium. 1999 Digest. Millimeter-waves were selected to implement this new system application, because of the capability to allow easy frequency re-use and the development of MMIC technology. This paper focuses on the characteristics of the MM-waves propagation with particular emphasis on the utilization of antenna directivity to combat multipath fading. Experimental results were conducted at 37.2 GHz under line-of-sight conditions. CW recordings are analyzed in terms of small-scale fading and path loss.","PeriodicalId":391546,"journal":{"name":"IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society International Symposium. 1999 Digest. For scattering problems involving low grazing incident waves, we found that the CFIE converges very fast compared with the EFIE, which converges very slowly for the same problem. Scattering at low grazing angles requires modeling of an infinite rough surface by a finite surface large enough such that the incident antenna beam excites no edge currents. In order to thoroughly investigate such a special scattering problem, a Monte Carlo simulation using many random surface realizations should be conducted which necessitates a fast converging and accurate technique such as the enhanced as SDFMM.","PeriodicalId":391546,"journal":{"name":"IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society International Symposium. 1999 Digest.
