This is cross-sectional correlational study with 243 older women ± 64.5 years old and body mass index (BMI) ± 28.70 kg/m². For the development of the equation it was utilized the method of hold-out sample validation. The participants were randomly divided into equation development group (96 elderly women) and a group for validation (147 elderly women). Total body mass, height, waist and hip circumferences, ratio waist-hip ratio and BMI were measured. The whole-body dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) assessed body composition (percentage of body fat, fat mass, and fat-free mass). The equations were developed using multiple linear regression, with validation by the stepwise method; the comparison of the equations was analyzed by the paired Student's t test and the analysis of residual scores by the method of Blant and Altman. The New Equation presents a strong correlation (R = 0.83) and (R² = 0.69), and a standard error of estimation equals to 3.21% for percentage body fat prediction. The mean difference between the estimations of percentage body fat from DXA and the New Equation was 0.11% (t(0,180); P = 0.850). Therefore, the New Equation had an accuracy of 93.5% and a total error of 1.8%. The body fat estimation in older women using this New Equation based on BMI and age is valid and accurate.","PeriodicalId":38989,"journal":{"name":"Revista Brasileira de Cineantropometria e Desempenho Humano","volume":"35 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-11-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"81623368","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Eighty-eight elderly patients (81.79 ± 6.54 years) diagnosed with AD treated at an elderly care reference center in Taguatinga-DF were selected, and information was collected between November 2018 and March 2019. Data collection was initially made by filling in the evaluation form. Subsequently, two questionnaires were administered to caregivers (Clinical Dementia Rating-CDR and Disability Assessment for Dementia -DAD) and two tests to demented patients (Southampton Assessment of Mobility-SAM-Br and Timed Up and Go-TUG). Variables were correlated using the SPSS software version 22 using Pearson's correlation, with significance level p?0.05. The following results were obtained: 1. weak correlations between CDR and DAD (p = 0.04; r = -0.31) with significant difference; 2. strong correlation and significant difference between CDR and TUG (p = 0.02; r = 0.87); 3. weak and non-significant correlation between CDR and SAM-Br (p = 0.14; r = -0.24); 4. significant difference and highly strong correlation between SAM-Br and TUG (p = 0.01; r = 0.70). Older adults with Alzheimer's disease present decreased functional capacity, mobility and risk of falls associated with the disease progression. SAM-Br and TUG tools showed strong correlation and, although it is a generic measure, TUG showed strong correlation with AD progression, and may be a predictive test for the risk of falls in this population.","PeriodicalId":38989,"journal":{"name":"Revista Brasileira de Cineantropometria e Desempenho Humano","volume":"8 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-06-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"76311437","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

One question then is whether a higher volume of practice for these children could match the performance of children with typical development (TD). The present study aims to examine the effects of a higher volume of practice by children with probable DCD (pDCD) in relation to a lower volume of practice by children with TD. The MABC-2 was used to identify the participants' level of motor difficulty and set the composition of the groups. Two active video games (Nintendo Wii) were used for the practice. Each group was composed of eight participants, paired up by gender and age, TD (M = 111.87 months; SD = 4.05) and pDCD (M = 115.87 months; SD = 4.96). The TD group participated in seven practice sessions and the pDCD group participated in eleven sessions. Results regarding performance on Wii console games showed significant improvement from the first day of practice to the last day in both groups (pDCD and TD). A higher volume of practice for children with pDCD compared to their TD peers helped to increase the performance of the former group. Therefore, the pDCD group achieved a performance similar to the TD group in both practiced games.","PeriodicalId":38989,"journal":{"name":"Revista Brasileira de Cineantropometria e Desempenho Humano","volume":"56 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-06-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"81895973","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In dialogue with philosophers who theorize about complex thinking, we analyze the ordering of scientific knowledge structures in Brazil, such as the organization in areas and lines of PE Graduate Programs (PPGs) exposed on their websites and the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (CAPES) document. Regarding sociocultural transformations that occurred throughout the 20th century, science perceives the limits of knowledge, where divisions in disciplines seem to be insufficient to investigate the complexity of problems, giving rise to the epistemological perspective of complex thinking. PE is organized in a multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary way, but with gaps between human sciences and natural sciences. Therefore, seeking strategies to reduce borders is emerging for the area to adapt to the new scientific needs of the 21st century.","PeriodicalId":38989,"journal":{"name":"Revista Brasileira de Cineantropometria e Desempenho Humano","volume":"30 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-06-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"89502841","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The present study aimed to describe the external load profile of amateur-level handball players and to compare the playing position and match outcome-related differences in an official 2nd Regional Division male official match. 19 handball players were monitored by WIMU PROTM electronic performance and tracking systems (EPTS) with ultrawide-band (UWB) indoor location technology. Statistical analysis was composed of a t-student independent sample test and one-way ANOVA with Bonferroni posthoc. In amateur handball, most demands are composed of aerobic intensity displacements (<12 km/h, 76% playing time) and low-intensity impacts (<5G). Differences were found between playing positions where wingers obtained the greatest values in high-intensity actions, centers in the volume of demands, and defensive specialist players in impacts. Besides, the winning teams performed greater high-intensity demands both in displacements and speed changes. In conclusion, the present results realized the first approximation to handball amateur demands, considering the playing role and match status-related demands to design specific training plans.","PeriodicalId":38989,"journal":{"name":"Revista Brasileira de Cineantropometria e Desempenho Humano","volume":"9 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-06-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"85234835","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This is a study carried out with thirteen athletes (6 females) with a mean age of 20.7 ± 4.2 years, affiliated to the Pernambuco Federation of Karate Associations, were developing this training routine during the 2018 season. Body mass and height were measured. To measure body composition, the body densitometry method was used by the x-ray double-ray absorptiometry (DEXA) technique. Karate Specific Aerobic Test was used to verify aerobic performance. Association analyzes were performed between body composition variables and KSAT performance using Pearson's correlation test and linear regression. All analyzes adopted a significance of p <0.05. KSAT performance was negatively correlated with total fat mass (r = -0.797; p = 0.001) and fat percentage (r = -0.757; p = 0.003). The linear regression model with the highest explanatory power included total fat and KSAT (adjusted R² = 0.732; p <0.001) exhibited a negative association with total fat (? = -0.21; p <0.001), and the model that included % body fat and KSAT (adjusted R² = 0.708; p = 0.003) were negatively associated with% body fat (? = -22.937; p = 0.001), both adjusted for gender and age. There is a negative association between total fat mass, body fat percentage and karate specific aerobic test performance.","PeriodicalId":38989,"journal":{"name":"Revista Brasileira de Cineantropometria e Desempenho Humano","volume":"31 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-06-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"87386811","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Twenty three untrained volunteers performed 3-5 sets (3 sets - weeks 1 and 2; 4 series - weeks 3 and 4; 5 series weeks 5 to 10) with 6 repetitions, intensity of 50% of 1 repetition maximum (1RM), 3 min rest between sets and 6 s  repetition duration at the knee extensor exercise. One group (5:1) performed concentric action of 5 s and eccentric  of 1 s and the other  (3:3) performed concentric of 3 s and eccentric of 3 s.  The VM, VL and RF EMG (RMS) activities were recorded in each repetition of the three series at the first training session and the first three series at the last session. The protocol 5:1 led to EMG reduction in all portions, with a greater number of repetitions presenting differences at the VL and RF. VM and RF presented similar results at Group 3:3. It was verified that all the differences occurred in the second half of the series. It was also verified differences in EMG ratios just in group 3:3 and only in VM/VL and VM/RF. These results suggest that the coordination was not affected when equivalent repetitions of series were compared. It was also suggested that these results were influenced by the reduced degrees of freedom of the exercise and the training load progression adopted.","PeriodicalId":38989,"journal":{"name":"Revista Brasileira de Cineantropometria e Desempenho Humano","volume":"22 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-06-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48013556","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The discrepancy between the subjective perception of body image and the desire for the ideal body type can interfere with the feeling of satisfaction and trigger the desire for changes in appearance, directly interfering with mental health and general well-being. Men and women may differ in body image satisfaction due to the different social influences and beauty standards imposed. The aim of this study was to evaluate the subjective perception of body image and satisfaction with body shapes among men and women. The sample consisted of 100 college students of both genders. Subjective perception of body image and satisfaction were measured through self-assessment, through scale figure silhouettes. There was a significant difference in the subjective perception of body image in the comparison between genders, and women presented greater discrepancy between the real and the perceived image. In the analysis of satisfaction with body image there were no differences between genders and both presented high percentage of dissatisfaction. In addition, 46.2% of men would like to decrease their body shapes, 53.8% would increase them. As for women, 76.1% would like to decrease their body dimensions and 23.9% to increase them. The strong pressures imposed by society and the standards set by the prevailing media in determining body image dissatisfaction or self-assessment negatively, regardless of gender.","PeriodicalId":38989,"journal":{"name":"Revista Brasileira de Cineantropometria e Desempenho Humano","volume":"256 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-06-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"77672650","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Muscle thickness was assessed by ultrasonography at three anatomical sites in elbow flexors (proximal - EF1, medial, EF2, and distal - EF3) and knee extensors (proximal - EK1, medial - EK2, and distal - EK3), as well as functional performance assessment (chair stand and arm curl) of 31 patients with PD. The results suggest that EF3 muscle thickness was significantly (p> 0.05) lower than EF2 and EF1. Muscle thickness of knee extensors was statistically different in the anatomical points of rectus muscles and vastus medialis muscles (EK1>EK2>EK3). There was no correlation between muscle thickness and functional performance of lower (r= 0.17; p= 0.35) and upper limbs (r= -0.17; p= 0.34) of PD patients. This is a cross-sectional study with a convenience sample of 34 runners, 20 males and 14 females (42,4 ± 11,0). The participants attended two days of testing and one day to participate in an official 10-km race. During the visits, the following tests were performed: i) 400-meter running track test and ii) 2000 meter running track test. They were randomly selected and held in official athletics track with at least 48 hours rest between them. The athletes were instructed to participate in the study properly recovered, fed and hydrated. The CV was calculated as the linear relation between distance and race time, corresponding to the slope of the linear regression line. Both tests occurred in similar climatic situations. We found good agreement between the velocities estimated through the CV test and the real running velocity of a 10-km race. Although there was a difference in velocities estimated by the CV test and the real 10-km race, the variation delta was low. Thus, these data indicate that the CV test seems to be a good tool for estimating the velocity of a 10-km race. The CV determined in the field with two fixed distances 400 and 2000 meter was valid to estimate the running velocity of a 10-km race.","PeriodicalId":38989,"journal":{"name":"Revista Brasileira de Cineantropometria e Desempenho Humano","volume":"59 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-06-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"87564155","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
