To identify the consequences of strategic decisions made by the main macro-political actors in and Methodology. The study used the comparative historical method and the method of historical perio-dization. Results. Using a large amount of factual material, various aspects of the confrontation between the two great powers – England and France, which was the axis of military and political events in Europe of the 18th century, were examined. The main stages, scope and consequences of this confrontation were analysed. According to the author of the article, the turning point in this process was the period of Regency (1715–1723), while the final stage included the events of the French Revolution (1789–1799) and the war of Napoleon. The main periods of Anglo-French confrontation and key stages of European hegemony transition from France to England were revealed. Research implications. The relevance and socio-political significance of this issue are obvious: the number of people carrying this form of consciousness in the modern world is innumerable, which also indicates the scientific and historical significance of its analysis. This is confirmed by the assessment of liberalism given by the President of the Russian Federation V. Putin at the G-20 meeting in Japan (28–29 June 2019). The article focuses on analysing the development of prerequisites for the formation of liberal historical consciousness that constitutes the novelty, as well as the scientific and practical significance, of the posed problem, which, in this case, is done using mainly the comparative historical method and the principle of historicism. The massive nature of historical consciousness determined the choice of information sources, which mainly include materials and publications in the newspapers Moskovsky Komsomolets and Soviet Russia. As a result of the excavations, the general stratigraphy of the monument was established. Two ground dwellings, a half dogout and a complex of household pits were discovered. The finds are represented with ceramics, tools made of flint, stone, bone and clay, as well as devotional articles. The monument enabled experts to preliminary study the defensive ditch, which is a unique structure of the Gumelniţa culture in the southern part of the Pruto-Dniester interfluve. © CC BY Бейлекчи В. Based on the comparative-historical method, the principles of objectivism and historicism, the study of historiographical material reveals different points of view on the essence of dual power and its chronology. Besides, the historians’ positions are defined: both recognizing the fact of dual power and denying it. On the basis of the factual analysis the new chronology of the diarchy period is proposed. The theoretical and practical importance of the research is the synthesis of the historiographical knowledge on the issues of the diarchy existence in the Great Russian revolution which allows formulating the concept, coinciding with the objective historical facts © CC BY Яковлев Н.
