Besides that, MgO also has large band gap (7.8 eV) and high dielectric constant (9.8) could be potentially used as a buffer layer for ferroelectric material. In this work, MgO with 0.2M concentration were prepared using sol-gel technique. Magnesium acetate tetrahydrate, ethanol and nitric acid used as precursor, solvent and stabilizer respectively. The MgO solutions were then deposited on the cleaned glass by using spin-coating technique. The thin film deposition is repeated for 8 times for uniformity purpose. The electrical and dielectric properties of MgO are identified by observing its resistivity, dielectric constant, dielectric loss and its surface morphology in terms of annealing temperature. Since high deposition temperature is needed in order to obtain high quality of MgO films and also due to the limitation of glass, the annealing temperature is varied from 400°C to 500°C with 25°C interval. The experimental results show that annealing temperature is inversely proportional to the thickness of MgO films due to the merging activity of the particle. MgO film annealed at 500°C has been chosen as a good dielectric layer since it has a good electrical, dielectric and structural properties.","PeriodicalId":383828,"journal":{"name":"2011 IEEE Student Conference on Research and Development","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132648272","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The fashion of turning gait includes two main phases, Single Support Phase (SSP) and Double Support Phase (DSP). This paper represents the design of a novel type of turning gait for an anthropomorphic robot. The designed gait is experimented using BIOLOID humanoid system as one of the major requirements to establish an Indoor Navigation System. Besides the various gaits which are designed for the project, the fashion of turning is excogitated through the Forward Kinematics (FK) and Inverse Kinematics (IK) analysis based on the Denavit-Hartenberg (D-H) representation and Geometrical Analysis Technique (GAT) respectively. The analysis is performed to identify the required angular positions of joint actuators for various poses of the designed gait. This paper only focuses on the design strategy of the turning gait with the demonstration of the joint movement characteristics which are important to provide the desired movements of the entire system to perform the gait without losing its upright position.","PeriodicalId":383828,"journal":{"name":"2011 IEEE Student Conference on Research and Development","volume":"47 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116563085","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

During critical peaks in the demand for electricity, such as during summer heat waves, wholesale electricity prices can rise to their highest levels. Basically, demand response programs are divided into two main categories namely, incentive-based programs and time-based programs. The focus of this paper is on two mandatory programs namely Interruptible/ Curtailable service (I/C) and Capacity market programs (CAP), which are incentive-based demand response programs including penalties for customers in case of no responding to load reduction. First, by using the concept of Price Elasticity of Demand and Customer Benefit Function, economic model of above mentioned programs is developed. To evaluate the performance of the model, simulation study has been conducted using the load curve of the peak day of the Iranian power system grid in 2007. In the numerical study section, the impact of these programs on load shape and load level, and benefit of customers as well as reduction of energy consumption are shown.","PeriodicalId":383828,"journal":{"name":"2011 IEEE Student Conference on Research and Development","volume":"89 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122556086","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The deposition parameter was first established by setting the precursor material at room temperature and at camphor oil vaporization temperature (180°C), whereas the deposition temperature was set constant at 500°C. Films were characterized by using the Solar Simulator system, UV/VIS/NIR spectrometer and FESEM for electrical, optical and structural properties of the thin films. From the characterization of the electrical properties, I–V graph was modeled for both conditions, and linear graph (ohmic) were performed and the analyze reveal that conductivity shows an increment when the precursor was heated at the vaporization temperature, with the value of 0.1030×10<sup>−4</sup> Scm<sup>−1</sup> to 5.8390×10<sup>−4</sup> Scm<sup>−1</sup> (in dark) and from 0.1240×10<sup>−4</sup> Scm<sup>−1</sup> to 8.1190×10<sup>−4</sup> Scm<sup>−1</sup> (under illumination). Various risks and uncertainties exist in projects. These may not only prevent the projects to be completed within budget and time limit, but also threaten the quality, safety and operational needs. In the proposed method the potential project risks are analyzed and risk response strategies are developed by fuzzy failure mode and effect analysis (FMEA) and then varying effect of each risk over each activity. The project total time can then be quantified and simulated by Monte Carlo simulation that is effective in uncertain conditions due to its capability of converting uncertainty to risk judgmentally in projects. Following this procedure Fault tree analysis and event tree analysis will be used to get risk mitigation. Eventually, for a reliable schedule we distribute a critical chain schedule which able to implement the project as planned and obtain reasonable Feeding Buffer time and Project Buffer time.","PeriodicalId":383828,"journal":{"name":"2011 IEEE Student Conference on Research and Development","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114524254","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Because of its unique and interesting properties, many mathematicians as well as renaissance artists and architects studied, documented and employed golden section proportions in remarkable works of sculpture, painting and architecture. Robot sizing especially for the Humanoid Robot, Phi is considered as the key to achieve the human friendly look. The ratio also plays an enigmatic role in the geometry and mathematics. The basic concept of golden ratio and its relation with the geometry are represented and described in this paper. The paper also explains about the structure and construction strategies of various dynamic rectangles by establishing some relations and dependencies with each other. The main contribution of the paper is to study about the validation and substantiation of the Equation of Phi based on classical geometric relations. The technique can be considered as an interesting strategy to prove the Equation of Phi.","PeriodicalId":383828,"journal":{"name":"2011 IEEE Student Conference on Research and Development","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128012343","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In most parts of the world, cellular network bands are overloaded, but amateur radio and paging frequencies are not. Independent studies performed in some countries confirmed that observation, and concluded that spectrum utilization depends strongly on time and place. Moreover, fixed spectrum allocation prevents rarely used frequencies (those assigned to specific services) from being used by unlicensed users, even when their transmissions would not interfere at all with the assigned service. In this research we studied the frequency usage pattern of a large telecom company to identify the possibility of establishing a cognitive radio network using their licensed band. Experimental simulation results shows that a carefully designed network will boost the throughput significantly.","PeriodicalId":383828,"journal":{"name":"2011 IEEE Student Conference on Research and Development","volume":"71 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116092531","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
