Prevalence of alcohol abuse is five to seven per cent in the Indian population with an estimated 10-20 million in need for treatment. Psychosis can be evident when a patient is taking substances such as Cannabis, however, the psychosis usually resolves when the drug use is discontinued.7 As such, and there are limited cases of psychosis upon withdrawal from Cannabis use described in the literature as it is an infrequent phenomenon. Cannabis contains several cannabinoids with the prominent cannabinoids been cannabidiol and tetrahydrocannabinol (THC).3 Cannabis acts on the cannabinoid receptors (CB1), where it converts to its active form Delta-9tetrahydrocannabinol (THC).7 It subsequently affects intracellular enzymes such as cAMP causing a reduction.7 The decrease in cAMP, then causes a decrease in potassium and calcium channels. As a result, there is a reduction in the amount of neurotransmitter released from axonal terminals, except for dopamine.7 Dopamine is usually inhibited by GABA neurons. Cannabis disinhibits GABA neurons leading to the activation of dopamine.7,8 Excessive dopamine in the mesolimbic tract is hypothesized to cause positive psychotic symptoms.","PeriodicalId":381563,"journal":{"name":"MOJ Addiction Medicine & Therapy","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129597960","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Unsure how to manage this type of injury in patients who were nonadherent, did not have decision-making capacity, and/or were a danger to them, caregivers consulted orthopedics. Together, they decided the best course would be to forego surgery and treat the fracture conservatively. Soft and semi-rigid collars are best used for stable fractures, but these C-collars must be worn until the fracture heals or fuses, which ranges from four weeks to six months.1 It is the conservative option that necessitates close monitoring and follow-up, as surgical solutions tend to heal more quickly. Although scant literature does exist on the development of psychosis in relation to alcohol use disorder2 and orthopedic orthoses3,4, there is no literature to be found regarding the spinal care of patients with a primary psychotic disorder.","PeriodicalId":381563,"journal":{"name":"MOJ Addiction Medicine & Therapy","volume":"105 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128916092","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study aims to determine whether users intend to quit or reduce vaping. An online survey link was posted on social media forums and 259 self-confessed vapers completed an online questionnaire. The majority of vapers had not attempted to reduce vaping (73.4%), with little intention to quit vaping within the next two months (96.6%). Most commonly 6mg of nicotine was used (76.8%) and 4.2% of participants had no previous smoking history. The majority (56%) of vapers reported a moderate nicotine dependency. As expected, regression analysis revealed that nicotine dependency was predicted by age and strength of e-liquid concentration. We conclude from our study findings that the majority of vapers do not intend to reduce or quit using electronic cigarettes and this issue has fundamental implications regarding the long-term negative effects of vaping; that will take time to unfold and further research to fully appreciate.","PeriodicalId":381563,"journal":{"name":"MOJ Addiction Medicine & Therapy","volume":"87 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-09-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122500673","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
