During this study, we have designed and built a new wearable device capable of detecting features helpful in LBP follow-up while being non-invasive. The device has been carefully validated, and shows good metrological features, with small noise level ($sigma$ = 1{textdegree}) and no observable drift. Two simple exercises were proposed to two young volunteers, one of them with LBP history. These exercises are designed to target two characteristics: the lumbar lordosis angle and the hip &shoulder dissociation. Even if no general rules can be extracted from this study, we have shown that Inertial Measurement Units (IMU) are able to pick up those characteristics and the obtained values are meaningful refereeing to LBP disease. Henceforth, we are confident in going to clinical studies to investigate the link between back related feature and LBP, in particular the hip &shoulder dissociation which is poorly documented.","PeriodicalId":357085,"journal":{"name":"International Conference on Biomedical Electronics and Devices","volume":"69 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-04-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126153572","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper focuses on designing a system which can evaluate the walking ability and the physical agility level of normal people and people with Parkinson’s disease or stroke. The motion signal is collected by three wearable MPU9250 sensors located on both ankles and the center of the waist. Three test scenarios, including 10 meters walking test (10MWT), Time up and go test (TUGT) and Dual-task walking (DTW), are designed in this paper. The results, which concluded time parameters such as standing up time and turning back time as well as walking parameters such as stride length and stride frequency, showed good consistency and high accuracy with Vicon device.","PeriodicalId":357085,"journal":{"name":"International Conference on Biomedical Electronics and Devices","volume":"116 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-04-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116114063","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Late detection of severe forms of cognitive impairment, including dementia, leads to a lack of early preventive and therapeutic correction, a decrease in the effectiveness of rehabilitation and the quality of life of patients with AVM. A comprehensive assessment of cognitive impairment may be a diagnostic criterion for assessing the severity of neurological symptoms at the endovascular treatment stages. A significant contribution to the study of the pathophysiology of CN formation in patients with AVM is made by fMRI, providing knowledge about the functional organization of the brain. The results of functional mapping of the brain in 11 patients with arteriovenous malformations are presented. The structure of cognitive impairment was evaluated using advanced neuropsychological testing and structural-functional restructuring in the cerebral cortex using fMRI. To obtain images, an echoplanar tomography technique using BOLD contrast was used. The data obtained indicate complex neurodynamic disorders of the cognitive sphere in patients with AVM in several areas of both the right and left hemisphere: dorsal, ventral and medial front-striatal thalamic and fronto-parietal cerebellar networks.","PeriodicalId":357085,"journal":{"name":"International Conference on Biomedical Electronics and Devices","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-04-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134185321","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

And we decided to apply 2 seconds gliding window for lifethreatening cardiac arrhythmias recognition. All types of arrhythmias were grouped into six classes depending on their danger to the human life. And these classes were separated in two parts: threatening humans’ life and others. As a classification features Fourier transform with spectrum up to 15 Hz were picked. In this paper we describe the formed dataset of ECG fragments and compare efficiency of different simple classification algorithms for this two-class problem. The following algorithms were tested: k-nearest neighbours, nearest convex hull algorithm, nearest mean and SVMs with different kernels. The results appeared to be sufficiently appropriate.","PeriodicalId":357085,"journal":{"name":"International Conference on Biomedical Electronics and Devices","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-04-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115693245","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This situation is worrying because neonatal jaundice is a very common condition and high-levels of unconjugated bilirubin concentration have neurotoxic effects. Therefore, a continuous bilirubin monitoring system for newborns is being suggested to overcome visual inspection errors and to reduce invasive procedures. This system is presented through a macro view modeling approach, in order to validate the requirements and to build a base infrastructure to posteriorly progress in more detailed diagrams for development support. The Unified Modeling Language was used for diagrams composition and, thus, it was also developed a brief description about the different diagram types, in order to clarify the diagrams selection. The system modeling at early stages was considered a powerful engineering methodology for new designs due to its diffusion capacity of the system basic concepts for the respective interdisciplinary group involved in this research.","PeriodicalId":357085,"journal":{"name":"International Conference on Biomedical Electronics and Devices","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-04-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132443131","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Our approach involves both Monte Carlo (MC) calculations and experimental measurements. Using a GEANT4-based application, MC simulations are involved in order to compare transmission properties of the digital “standard breast”, which is composed by the external skin layer and the breast tissue inside, with those of typical printable materials. Substitute materials for skin layer and breast tissue have been identified and a 3D-printed physical breast phantom has been derived. Finally, a comparison between MC results and experimental measurements has been performed with the Hologic Selenia® Dimensions® mammography unit using XR-QA2 radiochromic films.","PeriodicalId":357085,"journal":{"name":"International Conference on Biomedical Electronics and Devices","volume":"59 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-04-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121853628","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The European directives and the regulation issued by the member states include recommendations which apply to high-risk medical devices. The present study aims at collecting the recommendations regarding high-risk medical devices and specific to each country. Legislation, guidelines, scientific publications and grey literature have been searched. Different trends seem to appear in the states with the most advanced legislation: an increase of controlled trials, a better traceability, development of specialized registries, an improved vigilance system and an increased involvement of endusers. Although poorly present in the legislation, the end-users are more and more integrated to the development process of medical devices. Ergonomics and user experience can be seen as key factors of a successful medical device. Several important issues are stressed regarding the training and information of healthcare practitioners for implantation of the medical device and its initial setting if required. New avenues have also to be envisioned such as context of use analysis and user-centred design.","PeriodicalId":357085,"journal":{"name":"International Conference on Biomedical Electronics and Devices","volume":"114 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-04-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123015221","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The rehabilitation system protocol for reach and grasp movements developed by an academic research group, currently applied to patients, has already proven to be effective. However, the current system and recently published researches, demonstrate proposals distancing from those who will use and manipulate it, with limitations and failures evidenced. The propose wearable system integrates electrodes and electronic components activated by a smartphone app to improve the performance of upper limb movements and optimize the system, making it more functional for your users. The methodology includes (1) Design Thinking process, (2) Parametric Design process and three dimensional production, (3) Reduction of the electronic circuits, (4) Development of Android application for setting NMES protocols and (5) Workbench tests and users experimentation. The methodology in this new approach of development proved to be feasible and effective. Results have shown that including the end users and health professionals in the design process to develop wearable system is a promising strategy to overcome the limitations of the NMES systems.","PeriodicalId":357085,"journal":{"name":"International Conference on Biomedical Electronics and Devices","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-04-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115187355","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Currently there is no known curative treatment; management of the disease is based on symptomatic therapy such as Complete Decongestive Therapy (CDT). Current devices and compression garments used in CDT are often heavy and cause discomfort and bacterial infections due to poor skin care. Along with the longterm physical problems, it also causes serious psychological and social problems for patients, affecting their quality of life significantly. There is an urgent need for innovative approaches for the treatment of lymphedema. In this paper we propose a novel solution in the form of a light portable pneumatic device “Lymphmotion”, along with a complimentary compression garment designed to reduce bacterial infection to address this problem.","PeriodicalId":357085,"journal":{"name":"International Conference on Biomedical Electronics and Devices","volume":"21 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-04-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126074823","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
