Considering the ineffectiveness of traditional methods of political participation alone, online political participation (e-enabling), especially through the use of the internet and social media, comes in handy in a bid to have a fair and credible election. This study investigates how e-enabling can act as a technological platform for electoral democracy in Uganda. Specifically, the study aims to establish the relationship between e-enabling and electoral democracy among citizens in Uganda. Using the mixed methods, under a descriptive correlational survey, a sample of N=482 respondents were in the study. Based on Pearson’s correlation coefficients, results reveal that e-enabling is significantly related to electoral democracy. Providing platforms like fair electoral policies and guidelines to enable people freely adopt and utilise the internet in elections through free social media, free or low-cost internet, good nationwide networks, minimising internet shutdowns so that all electoral stakeholders can freely express themselves and actively engage in all stages of the electoral process with the utmost fairness, transparency and accountability will go a long way in having e-enabling as a technological platform for strengthening electoral democracy in Uganda","PeriodicalId":347146,"journal":{"name":"East African Journal of Interdisciplinary Studies","volume":"52 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-07-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124192743","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This pressure to internationalise TVET systems and qualifications has mainstreamed the development and implementation of national and regional frameworks for quality assurance through which the comparability of standards and qualifications can be achieved. Document analysis research methodology has been used to review and analyse existing regulatory frameworks on quality assurance of education and training in Uganda so as to establish: 1) Existing quality TVET assurance governance entities, 2) Regulatory frameworks that guide TVET quality assurance, and 3) Progress on future opportunities for quality assurance. The findings showed that: numerous loopholes exist in the quality assurance processes of the education sector as a whole; the TVET sub-sector in Uganda is still being guided by the BTVET Act of 2008 lacks a regulatory structure to oversee quality assurance throughout the entire TVET sub-sector in the country; lack of a policy implementation action plan for the TVET Policy; governance of TVET quality assurance in the country is scattered among many government departments and agencies; and existing quality assurance guiding frameworks never encompassed investment and financing of TVET. The paper recommends that the Government of Uganda prioritises the: establishment of the TVET council as envisaged in the TVET Policy, the development and operationalisation of the TVET qualifications framework and TVET qualifications registry system, and the development of a TVET policy implementation Action Plan.","PeriodicalId":347146,"journal":{"name":"East African Journal of Interdisciplinary Studies","volume":"36 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-07-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131541298","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

While appropriate parenting practices enhance learner achievement, inappropriate parenting practices inhibit learner achievement in education. In Chwele zone ECDE centres, most children go to school hungry and unkempt; they hardly avail to school what they are asked for, and mostly thought to blame it on parenting practices. Few studies carried out in the area addressed matters of Free Primary Education (FPE), School Feeding Programs (SFP), and instructional materials versus children’s learning and development. Adequate efforts have not been made to establish the relationship that exists between parenting practices and learner achievement in Mathematical activities. This study examined the effect of parenting practices on learner achievement in Mathematics activities in the Chwele zone, with the purpose of establishing the effect of the provision of basic needs and supportive home conditions by parents on learner achievement in Mathematical activities. The theoretical framework used was derived from Lev Vygotsky’s theory of childhood psychological development. The theory states that parents have a vital role in supporting their children’s learning. The study employed a descriptive survey design to study the population of 27 Early Childhood Development (ECD) teachers in charge and 2097 parents. A convenience sampling technique was used to select a sample of 10 teachers and 150 parents from 10 ECDE centres. Questionnaires and interview schedule tools were administered to teachers and parents, respectively, to collect data. The instruments were formulated from the study’s objectives and given to an expert to check their appropriateness. Descriptive analysis in frequency counts and percentages analysed quantitative data. Content analysis analysed qualitative data, which were presented in frequency tables and graphs. Findings indicated that the majority of parents did not take good care of their children in terms of healthy feeding, appropriate clothing, proper care, and demonstration of active participation in mathematics activities. From interviews, results showed that the only way in which parents involved children in mathematical activities at home was by helping with home chores. The study recommends children’s healthy stimulation to be parents’ paramount endeavour because helping children to develop holistically is necessary for meaningful learning. Parents should also be made aware that proper nutrition and general child care enhance proper brain development, a condition that spurs the learning of mathematics activities.","PeriodicalId":347146,"journal":{"name":"East African Journal of Interdisciplinary Studies","volume":"247 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-07-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122093295","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The performance of Uganda's policy implementation in comparison to other East African nations is highlighted. The World Bank's \"Country Policy and Institutional Assessment\" (CPIA) for the year 2021 served as the foundation for this desk research. One-way analysis was used in the analysis. The results showed that the East African nations performed better than the global indicator. Kenya earned the highest mean policy implementation score among the three East African nations (3.7539683 on a scale of 1 = low to 6 = high). Kenya came in first, then Uganda (3.4484127), and Tanzania (3.5119048). However, the inconsequential F statistic showed that there is no difference in policy execution between the three states., i.e., the means are equal. There is a general consensus that Uganda has strong policies, but the execution is appalling. The country's policy implementation is better than the average index among developing countries, despite the claim that it might \"hold some water.\" The three nations together with a few others make up the East African countries; while Uganda's performance is lower than Kenya's, it is higher than Tanzania's.","PeriodicalId":347146,"journal":{"name":"East African Journal of Interdisciplinary Studies","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-07-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129851872","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study adopted a cross-sectional design and gathered both quantitative and qualitative data from various primary and secondary sources. A sample of 103 respondents was selected using a simple random sampling technique. Structured interviews using researcher-administered questionnaires were employed to collect primary data from the participants. In-depth interviews were conducted with selected juveniles to obtain insights into the delinquency in the city. Descriptive statistics and the Likelihood Ratio Chi-Square test were employed for quantitative data analysis, utilising IBM SPSS Statistics version 20. The findings indicated that theft offences accounted for a significant proportion of juvenile delinquency (45.6%), followed by abuse (29.1%) and vandalism (25.2%). The primary causes of delinquent behaviours were identified as poverty (67%), peer influence (28.2%), and family dysfunction (4.9%). Additionally, the study identified gender, household size, parenting style, and the causes of committing crimes as factors associated with juvenile delinquency. Based on these findings, it is recommended that the Arusha City Council, in collaboration with other stakeholders, develop targeted interventions and initiatives to address the specific challenges faced by juveniles. Government welfare officers in Arusha City should design educational programmes aimed at equipping families with the necessary knowledge and skills to create a nurturing environment for their children, thereby guiding juveniles onto a positive path. Implementing these recommendations aims to prevent and reduce juvenile delinquency and promote the overall well-being and positive development of young individuals in Arusha City","PeriodicalId":347146,"journal":{"name":"East African Journal of Interdisciplinary Studies","volume":"37 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122337487","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is worrying to note that the challenges of managing student discipline in secondary schools in Kenya are pervasive and constant. Different discipline management techniques have been used in schools, but the majority of them fail. This study was designed to investigate the effects of using technology to manage student behaviour in public secondary schools in Nakuru County, Kenya. The study’s goal was to determine how the use of closed-circuit television (CCTV) affected student behaviour in public secondary schools in Nakuru County. The theory of Reasoned Action provided the study’s direction (TRA). Explanatory sequential design, specifically mixed method research design, was employed. The target populations for the study included 579 teachers and 11,412 students, respectively. The sample population for the current study was composed of ten public secondary schools. Five of the schools have installed all of either of the four technologies, while the other five schools do not use technology in discipline management. The study compared the scores of the two categories of schools in regard to several disciplinary parameters. The sample size was 270 participants. Both questionnaires and interviews were used to gather data. Experts from the Department of Educational Management at Kenyatta University determined the validity of the study tools. Reliability was established using the test-retest methodology. Thematic analysis was used to analyse qualitative data, which was then presented narratively. Through descriptive analysis, specifically using percentages and averages, quantitative data was examined. Inferential statistics included regression analysis and analysis of variance (ANOVA). Quantitative data was presented in tables and charts. Results indicated a positive correlation between the independent and dependent variables. It implies that the more schools implement CCTV technologies, the more discipline can be managed effectively","PeriodicalId":347146,"journal":{"name":"East African Journal of Interdisciplinary Studies","volume":"20 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-04-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126220179","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

'Procreative Jihad' is currently happening in Nigeria, where radical Muslims have started having sex with non-Muslim girls and women, abducting, impregnating, marrying, and forcing them to convert to Islam so that their offspring will inevitably grow up to be Muslims. This research provided a qualitative analysis of the ramifications of the Islamic missiological tactic known as ‘Procreative Jihad’ which aims to convert non-Islamic populations in Nigeria to Islam. The paper employed a critical literature review and phenomenological methods. The literature review was used to provide a historical overview of 'Procreative Jihad', while the phenomenological method was used to collect data for the study through oral interviews and observations. Using extant literature, oral interviews, and observations, the findings revealed that ‘procreative jihad’ is an affront to human dignity, a violation of non-Muslim women's human rights and freedom, undercuts Islam as a religion of peace and justice, and breeds Islamophobia. The study concludes that the mission or da'wah goal of Islam does not necessarily include the holy war of any form. As a result, Muslims should use all of Islam's holistic qualities, such as compassion, honesty, tolerance, humility, and decency, in spreading the religion in Nigeria and beyond.","PeriodicalId":347146,"journal":{"name":"East African Journal of Interdisciplinary Studies","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-04-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126154024","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The government has implemented policies in response to the crisis. However, numerous obstacles have hampered these efforts. The aim of this article is to review previously published research by synthesising global evidence on factors that impede refugees’ access to healthcare services across the country. Articles published between 2016 and 2022 were searched in the Google Scholar and PubMed central databases. Google Scholar yielded 21,300, PubMed Central 637, and 5 articles from cross-references, however. The PRISMA framework was used to structure the selection, and 21 studies from different fields and settings met the inclusion criteria. The most frequently cited factors that impede access to and utilisation of needed healthcare services were sociocultural considerations such as stigma and discrimination, health system anomalies that led to mistrust of healthcare services and workers by refugee populations, and financial difficulties. In order to overcome these obstacles, the government and humanitarian organisations ought to carry out a comprehensive screening with leaders of refugee communities and local refugee organisations in order to comprehend the conditions of refugees. They ought to pay particular attention to the differences between the various cultures and settings, as well as the flow of the healthcare system, in order to sensitise people and raise awareness about the healthcare system. To make it easier for refugees to access and use the necessary healthcare services, specific health policies should be implemented. When looking for healthcare, equal rights and freedom of movement should be top priorities","PeriodicalId":347146,"journal":{"name":"East African Journal of Interdisciplinary Studies","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131070573","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Oppression of one person by another or a group of persons by another group is a stack reality of life. People or persons who have been oppressed have often cried out for freedom or liberation from whatever oppresses them. The term “liberation” is a very common term that is heralded here and there. What is the real meaning of the term “liberation” or “human liberation?” It is not possible to examine all the shades of meanings and understanding that this term carries. The objective of this paper is to hermeneutically and analytically decipher and break open the meaning of the concept of human liberation as presented in some of the works of Mahatma Gandhi and Tissa Balaruisya. The paper will equally make a comparative appraisal of their understanding of human liberation in their teachings, advocacy, and practices. The paper finds and concludes that both of them were deeply involved in advocating and working for the liberation of human beings from social, political, economic, and other forms of oppression on earth, while they were open to the full liberation that can only be obtained in the hereafter","PeriodicalId":347146,"journal":{"name":"East African Journal of Interdisciplinary Studies","volume":"82 1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-02-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132500886","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
