The first algorithm uses a torque reference as a guideline for tracking. The second method searches an optimal operating point from the slope of the power-rotational speed curve. The last one achieves the control objective using a developed fuzzy logic rule base. These three algorithms were implemented on a low cost digital signal controller board and tested with a real-time wind turbine simulator. It is found from the experiment that the three algorithms can manage to obtain the maximum power for any input wind speeds but with different control performance in terms of power fluctuation, rotational speed fluctuation and tracking time.","PeriodicalId":325362,"journal":{"name":"2007 Power Conversion Conference - Nagoya","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-04-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126236192","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The proposed design procedure of common-mode (CM) filter uses approximation function based on high-order Butterworth function to achieve not only the complied conducted noise but also the transfer function of the filter. This procedure is also based on the knowledge of the base-line of CM filter. The high frequency (HF) current probe is used to measure the conducted noises. Furthermore, this method makes possible a simplicity and fast design of the EMI filter with an arbitrary number of states. Design examples are given and the results are experimentally verified.","PeriodicalId":325362,"journal":{"name":"2007 Power Conversion Conference - Nagoya","volume":"C-32 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-04-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126485438","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The turbine speed is controlled to capture the maximum power according to the optimal tip-speed ratio. The inputs of SVR estimator are the wind turbine power and the rotational speed. By off-line training, a specified function which relates the input with the output is obtained. Then, the wind speed is determined from this predicted off-line function and the instantaneous input. The simulation and experimental results have shown that the wind speed is estimated rapidly and accurately.","PeriodicalId":325362,"journal":{"name":"2007 Power Conversion Conference - Nagoya","volume":"241 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-04-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116145049","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This RC compact thermal model can take into account lateral heat spreading within the modules and thermal interference among Si chips. The thermal model was validated in comparison of temperature transient responses among the results calculated using the proposed model and FEM. The electro-thermal coupling simulation using this RC compact thermal model offers reasonable accuracy for prediction of the Si chip temperature in HV inverter module.","PeriodicalId":325362,"journal":{"name":"2007 Power Conversion Conference - Nagoya","volume":"176 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-04-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114251679","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The model is based on an electric circuit simulation technique and is obtained by modeling a motor, motor controller, power semiconductor devices and their driver circuits, interconnection, smoothing capacitors, and thermal circuits of power semiconductors including package structure. The current, voltage, and carrier frequency data computed from the control system model containing many dynamic characteristics of motor and vehicle specifications as driving conditions were inputted into the inverter circuit. Using this modeling technique, a five-second full-throttle simulation was completed in sixteen hours of computation time because of the model parameter determined by the effect of acceleration performance. This inverter system model enables simulations with various characteristics from all inverter components, such as the controller, the silicon chip, device packages, cooling structure and driver circuits. The error in the simulation is below five percent. This technique enables not only simulation of single components but also of the mutual impact among several components in an inverter system. As a result, the inverter design could be optimized, thus contributing to significant improvements in the high acceleration performance of HVs.","PeriodicalId":325362,"journal":{"name":"2007 Power Conversion Conference - Nagoya","volume":"142 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-04-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127555600","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The experimental results reveal that an intermittent discharging current with a longer rest time at a higher frequency can release more charge to the load. It is interesting to find a significant increase in releasable capacity by executing an intermittent discharging current at the deeper discharge state but a negative effect at the earlier stage of a discharging cycle. An efficient discharging profile with intermittent current is figured out based on the investigation results.","PeriodicalId":325362,"journal":{"name":"2007 Power Conversion Conference - Nagoya","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-04-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128030466","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Additionally, it has a wide operating margin and stable driving condition with the aid of an auxiliary electrode. For driving the lamp, a narrow pulse power to maintain the glow discharge state is required. Since the conventional circuits are hard to obtain the lamp driving, new short-pulse high-voltage lamp ballast is developed. The proposed ballast uses coupled-inductor in order to enhance short pulse up to the lamp ignition level and obtain energy-recovery action, as well. The operation principle and experimental results are included. The ballast is adequate for driving the flat lamp with high system efficiency and low cost.","PeriodicalId":325362,"journal":{"name":"2007 Power Conversion Conference - Nagoya","volume":"223 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-04-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122891311","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The design optimization of the modules associated with the device characteristics, the module structures and the cooling conditions has become a major issue with the increase of the current density and the demand of downsizing the modules. In this paper, we propose a compact calculation method of dynamic electrothermal behavior of IGBT PWM (pulse width modulation) inverter modules. The dynamic electro-thermal calculations are performed using familiar spreadsheet software. In this approach, the mathematical models of the temperature dependencies of the device losses and quasi one-dimensional difference equations of thermal conduction were used for the estimation of the temperature of the module. To narrow down a lot of device and module parameters, the proposed approach will be an effective tool in the initial stage of thermal design of the inverter modules.","PeriodicalId":325362,"journal":{"name":"2007 Power Conversion Conference - Nagoya","volume":"138 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-04-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132374513","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
