The family archive of the Kalmyk writer Mikhail V. Khoninov (1919–1981) contains unpublished works of various genres, both in the original and in translations. The latter comprise his satirical heritage represented by fables, feuilletons, apologues, couplets, quatrains, etc. Goals. The article introduces into scientific circulation Russian translations of some unpublished satirical poems and a feuilleton of the poet which for various reasons were never included in the author’s lifetime books, nor printed in magazine and newspaper versions. Materials and methods. The study explores the satirist’s fables and one feuilleton created in the 1970s and translated into Russian for a book in the Crocodile Library series. The historical literary, comparative, and descriptive methods made it possible to identify genre features, poetics of texts, and a tradition of laughter culture. Results. The analysis of the texts defines their satirical orientation characteristic of one part of the writer’s artistic heritage, variability of plots and motifs, stable images, allegorism, and connection with contemporaneity. Conclusions. Russian translations of the fables (‘Oh, Sanzhi ...’, ‘The Skillful Thief’, ‘Literary Horse Thief’, ‘Coryphaeus’, ‘Editing’) and one feuilleton (‘The Fraudsters’) by A. Vnukov, L. Shereshevsky, A. Nikolaev, M. Semenov, and A. Krongauz demonstrate a variety of themes and characters addressed by the poet. The to be introduced unpublished fables and one feuilleton by M. Khoninov shall be instrumental in supplementing book editions, reconstructing a creative history of the poet’s works and translation practices of ethnic poetry.","PeriodicalId":324856,"journal":{"name":"Бюллетень Калмыцкого научного центра Российской академии наук","volume":"52 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127025726","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Üres Sara, a holiday marking the beginning of summer, is one of traditional celebrations still observed among some Mongolic peoples, including Kalmyks. The celebration includes a whole range of ritual actions accompanied by recitation of special prayers. Goals. The paper introduces one such texts from the Don Kalmyk tradition that was recorded at the turn of the 20th century by Kalmyk folklore collector Ivan I. Popov to be further included into the 2nd volume of his handwritten collection of Kalmyk folklore and literature samples nowadays stored at the State Archive of Rostov Oblast. Results. The text entitled by Popov as ‘Ürsin Bičig’ (Kalm. ‘Text on Üres Sara’), according to his own description, was recited by the eldest family member at dawn. The incantation accompanied the process of kumiss libation (sprinkling), a ritual aiming at bestowing blessings to children and young cattle. In addition, Popov includes in the manuscript another text of aspiration prayer — Γadasuni Irügel (‘An Aspiration Prayer on the Stake [for Cattle]’). Probably, this prayer also belonged to the group of ritual texts accompanying the Üres Sara celebration and had some important functions in the ritual. Ürsin Bičig recorded by Ivan I. Popov is a unique sample of the ritual text accompanying the Üres Sara celebration. Due to historical circumstances, this type of literature has been almost lost by Kalmyks nowadays. This, in turn, determines the main aim of the article as to introduce the text of Ürsin Bičig recorded by Popov.","PeriodicalId":324856,"journal":{"name":"Бюллетень Калмыцкого научного центра Российской академии наук","volume":"109 1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121178823","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The impact of Benjamin Bergmann — a renown religious figure, writer and translator — in Kalmyk folklore studies is immense. He authored the earliest European documented record of the Kalmyk heroic epic of Jangar, German translations of the Buddhist treatise titled ‘Mirror of Reality’ and two songs of the Gesar epic, thirteen folktales from the Siddhi Kür collection, etc. Goals. The article introduces B. Bergmann’s letters included in the 1804 German-language edition of his Nomadische Streifereien unter den Kalmȕken in den Jahren 1802 und 1803 (Germ. ‘Nomadic Wanderings among the Kalmyks in 1802–1803’) published in Riga. The article introduces memoirs (interview) of Maria K. Ubushieva, an honored physician of the RSFSR, covering the earliest years of her work in Elista after the 1957 rehabilitation and return of Kalmyks. Results. The interviewee describes the actual conditions of Kalmykia’s public healthcare during the restoration period in great detail, outlines the difficulties that were there for the arrived health workers to tackle. Materials. The work explores original Clear Script texts of the songs kept at the Manuscript Department of St. Petersburg University Library under the title ‘(Handwritten Records of) the Jangar (Made in B[aga] Dorbet District)’. Goals. The paper aims at examining the plot formation patterns in early songs of the Jangar through the use of descriptive and comparative research methods. Results. The analysis of plots shows the epic poems are interrelated and arranged in special sequence. The set of intertwined motifs serves to shape a plot based on some conflict (song one — an ultimatum of the enemy, song two — a horse raid) determining and determined by exposition, climax, and denouement. One of the problems for a multiethnic society (including that of the Russian Federation) in the context of the current globalization and the falsification of fateful events of the past (especially those of World War II) is a growing the need to update trends that ensure integration of a multiethnic national state. In the history of each society there are politically significant and value-semantic consolidating events that strengthen interethnic ties and relations. The memory of the Great Patriotic War occupies a special place in the national consciousness of Russian society. Goals. The paper aims to conduct a discourse analysis of scientific articles dealing with the Great Patriotic War published by journals of leading universities across the North Caucasus Federal District, and to determine how the memory of events of that war can be considered as a consolidating factor, a means of preserving and strengthening interethnic peace and harmony in the North Caucasus as a polyethnic region. Materials and Methods. The article uses the methodology of discourse analysis, focuses on studying mental models and determining the integrating properties of mental goal-setting. Discourse analysis of scientific articles investigating the Great Patriotic War is employed as a methodological toolkit. Results. The study of scientific publications about the Great Patriotic War concludes the consolidating message does prove a priority therein. All the articles emphasize the friendship and cohesion of the numerous peoples of the North Caucasus in the struggle against the common enemy — Nazi Germany. In addition, the publications draw attention to modern attempts to falsify the history of the Great Patriotic War. In this regard, the work stresses the necessity to preserve the memory of those who ensured Victory in this war and the demand to intensify patriotic education of Russian citizens, especially that of the younger generation.","PeriodicalId":324856,"journal":{"name":"Бюллетень Калмыцкого научного центра Российской академии наук","volume":"82 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-08-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115753838","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The article attempts an archaeographic description of the handwritten book Folktales of the Don Kalmyks (Russian translations) by I. Popov. Materials and Methods. The study analyzes the collector’s handwritten book containing forty two fairy tales and stored at the State Archive of Rostov Oblast. The main methods employed are those of archaeographic and textual description. Results. The archaeographic insight into the handwritten book reveals that its compilation meets some basic principles for such handwritten books — notes and drawings were made by hand. In his books, I. Popov tended to use and combine traditions of ancient Russian and Mongolian manuscript books. So, in accordance with the Mongolian book tradition, the folklorist uses frames and the birga sign in the design. Following the patterns of ancient Russian books, I. Popov duly designs titles of parts of the book, beginnings and endings of each fairytale distinguished with headpieces and closing elements, capital letters painted and enlarged. The afterword to the book was also written in accordance with the rules. Moreover, this handwritten book has postscripts containing valuable data on the collector’s biography.","PeriodicalId":324856,"journal":{"name":"Бюллетень Калмыцкого научного центра Российской академии наук","volume":"219 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-08-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122841031","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The issue examined in the article is topical enough since it arises from the need to analyze actual impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on internal labor migration processes among the population. The COVID-19 crisis has affected most sectors of the economy. The introduction of quarantine measures and non-working days led to a number of problems for labor migrants: loss of work, reduction in wages, change of employment, loss of a certain status, and other consequences. Goals. The article aims to assess the impact of the current situation in the labor market to have resulted from the introduction of national quarantine and self-isolation regime on interregional and intraregional migration trends. The article discusses two aspects of the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on labor migration in the republic, such as return migrations from Moscow and other regions to Kalmykia, and the migration of medical doctors and healthcare workers both within the republic and beyond. Materials and Methods. The paper introduces results of in-depth interviews with labor migrants who returned to Kalmykia during the period of restrictive measures, as well as with MDs and nursing staff who left for work in the ‘red zone’ outside their rural settlements and outside the republic. Results. The analysis of the impact entailed by the COVID-19 pandemic shows that migration is a dynamic process sensitive to any social change. Migration flows are characterized by a high level of renewability which is confirmed by both statistical data and the results of interviews: after some weakening of the restrictive measures the respondents returned to their jobs in other regions. However, such renewability of migration flows shows, in our opinion, the complexity of social and economic processes taking place in rural areas. The migration of MDs and medical personnel also attests to that — if it is possible to receive more material remuneration — qualified personnel are ready to leave not only their native villages but also the republic.","PeriodicalId":324856,"journal":{"name":"Бюллетень Калмыцкого научного центра Российской академии наук","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-08-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130916526","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
