As every exhibition is designed to tell a story, museum curators are responsible for analyzing each exhibit in order to extract messages that form a story and position accordingly the objects in correct order within the museum space. In this context, we analyze how the technological advances in the fields of sensors and the Internet of Things can be utilized in order to construct a “smart space”, where exhibits can communicate with the visitors and to each other and can be organized automatically so that they can generate rich, personalized, coherent and highly stimulating experiences. We present the architecture of the system named “exhiSTORY”, that intends to provide the appropriate infrastructure to be used in museums and places where exhibitions are held, in order to support smart exhibits. We discuss and analyze the architecture of the system and the ways of its application in a cultural space.","PeriodicalId":318525,"journal":{"name":"2018 Global Information Infrastructure and Networking Symposium (GIIS)","volume":"73 1-4","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131987408","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It integrates a plethora of networks of sensors and actuators (WSAN). But it lacks a commonly adopted architecture, able to deal with its important heterogeneity and its constraints. The major trend in IoT Applications conception is based on a centralized architecture. This centralization, known as Orchestration, is a legacy of sensors and actuators networks. IoT Orchestrations are proposed by the industry to properly manage the Objects of a single protocol. However, a distributed approach can be imagined. The distributed architecture, called Choreography, offers solutions for interoperability and security, which are important issues of the IoT. This paper explores the pros and cons of both architectures. It also presents a mix of the two, and our implementation(BeC3).","PeriodicalId":318525,"journal":{"name":"2018 Global Information Infrastructure and Networking Symposium (GIIS)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131041740","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

While Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, 4G cellular networks are able to support many IoT applications, they cannot provide an ubiquitous and seamless coverage as satellites. Connecting terrestrial IoT network segments directly to IoT service back ends via satellite broadband is becoming a new business focus, creating opportunities for notable use of hybrid Low Power Wide Area Network (LPWAN) to satellite gateways. In this position paper we analyze the potential of satellite for the IoT. We review the present-day initiatives from Satellite and Telco operators to deploy satellite-enabled LPWANs. Last but not least, we illustrate the technical challenges to be faced for interconnecting satellite and LoRaWAN networks, which call for further research investigation.","PeriodicalId":318525,"journal":{"name":"2018 Global Information Infrastructure and Networking Symposium (GIIS)","volume":"71 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128924947","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

New threats are continuously emerging, and the ability to capture and effectively analyze them is paramount. In our work, we are deploying multiple honeypot sensors in order to monitor and study the actions of the attackers. The selected honeypots are Cowrie, Dionaea and Glastopf, presented as a Linux host, a Windows host and a Web application respectively. This enables us to have a diverse and broad environment that can attract attackers aiming at different attack surfaces. The sensors are running on a containerization platform, Docker and in this way, they are lightweight, resilient and could be easily deployed and managed. Our goal is the creation of a single dashboard that can present the captured data effectively in real-time and both in macroscopic and microscopic levels. Thus, we are utilizing the Elastic Stack and we are enriching our data sources using Virus Total’s analysis engine. The proposed system ran for a three-month period and provided numerous data points, from which instantaneous useful conclusions were drawn for the behavior and nature of the malicious users.","PeriodicalId":318525,"journal":{"name":"2018 Global Information Infrastructure and Networking Symposium (GIIS)","volume":"73 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117082319","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Results are presented regarding a WLAN implementation for the below deck spaces along with the Quality of Experience (QoE) of video streaming tests with the headquarters. The implemented WLAN uses IEEE 802.11 n, ac protocols, and utilizes MIMO $3 times 2$ Transmit Beamforming $( mathrm {T}times $ BF) and $2 times 3$ Spatial Division Multiplexing (SDM) through the respective MIMO Access Points (APs). As results indicate, the proposed architecture has proven to be robust and without signal fluctuation, despite the high reverberant environment of the vessel's engine room. The bottleneck of the communication link proved to be the Satellite link, due to the limited available bandwidth and the high inherent latency.","PeriodicalId":318525,"journal":{"name":"2018 Global Information Infrastructure and Networking Symposium (GIIS)","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131832304","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To fulfill the increased communication needs, 5G Vehicular Cloud Computing (5G-VCC) architectures with dense deployments of the access network infrastructures have been proposed. In such systems, the network resources manipulation is a critical task that could be addressed by the Medium Access Control (MAC) layer. MAC schemes that have been proposed for vehicular networks, can be applied to 5G-VCC systems in order optimal manipulation of communication resources to be accomplished. This paper makes an overview of available MAC schemes, while a comprehensive discussion about their implementation in 5GVCC systems is performed leading to useful conclusions.","PeriodicalId":318525,"journal":{"name":"2018 Global Information Infrastructure and Networking Symposium (GIIS)","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124899758","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

One factor that enables video streaming is HTTP Adaptive Streaming (HAS), that allows the users to stream video using a bit rate that closely matches the available band-width from the server to the client. MPEG Dynamic Adaptive Streaming over HTTP (DASH) is a widely used standard, that allows the clients to select the resolution to download based on their own estimations. The algorithm for determining the next segment in a DASH stream is not part of the standard, but it is an important factor in the resulting playback quality. Nowadays vehicles are increasingly equipped with mobile communication devices, and in-vehicle multimedia entertainment systems. In this paper, we evaluate the performance of various DASH adaptation algorithms over a vehicular network. We present detailed simulation results highlighting the advantages and disadvantages of various adaptation algorithms in delivering video content to vehicular users, and we show how the different adaptation algorithms perform in terms of throughput, playback interruption time, and number of interruptions.","PeriodicalId":318525,"journal":{"name":"2018 Global Information Infrastructure and Networking Symposium (GIIS)","volume":"668 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122616252","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Two realistic outdoor suburban areas have been considered in Ghent, Belgium (Europe) and Kinshasa, the Democratic Republic of Congo (Africa), in which the power consumption, the energy efficiency, the network capacity and the multiplexing gain are investigated and compared with LTE networks. The results of the simulations demonstrated that massive MIMO networks provide better performance in the crowded scenario where user’s mobility is relatively low. A massive MIMO BS consumes 5–8 times less power than the LTE networks, with a pilot reuse pattern of 3 that helps obtaining a good tradeoff between the higher bit rate requested and the low power requirements in cellular environment.","PeriodicalId":318525,"journal":{"name":"2018 Global Information Infrastructure and Networking Symposium (GIIS)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130291258","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
