The transmission time scale is divided into frames. Each frame is subdivided into N time slots. A fixed number of slots M out of 150 time slots are reserved at the beginning of every frame to transmit some of the video packets arriving during the frame interval. The rest of the video packets contend with the voice and data packets for the remaining time slots of this frame as in normal packet reservation multiple access (PRMA). One objective of this paper is to find the optimum value of M allowing the maximum number of voice and data users to share the RF channel with one video user. Another objective is to find the optimum permission probabilities of sending contending voice, data, and video packets allowing the maximum number of users sharing the RF channel. In this paper, we apply a recently proposed low complexity iterative channel equalization technique, called the iterative decision feedback equalizer (IDFE) to a coded system using 8PSK modulation. In this system, the structure of the DFE has been modified to incorporate soft a priori information from previous iterations of the channel decoder in detection of the corrupted signal. As a result, in this algorithm complexity is only a linear function of channel memory length. Simulation results show that this technique, using a convolutional code with constraint length K=3 and interleaver size N=3000 over a known time invariant ISI channel achieves a remarkable gain of about 5 dB compared to the conventional DFE. Complexity evaluation also shows that the iterative DFE has advantages in terms of complexity compared to other types of turbo equalization techniques and is an appropriate candidate for EDGE (Enhanced Data rates for GSM Evolution) systems.","PeriodicalId":318292,"journal":{"name":"12th IEEE International Symposium on Personal, Indoor and Mobile Radio Communications. In particular, the dependence of the key parameters of the proposed solution with respect to the correlation of the fading channel has been evaluated. We propose a new basis expansion method for predicting the combiner weight and we show that the proposed algorithm has improved performance compared to a recently proposed method. The performance measure is the mean acquisition time. The constant false alarm rate criterion is used as threshold setting rule for comparator. The energies of the multipath components are combined already in the acquisition process by using a modified chip level post detection integration. Therefore, diversity combining in the acquisition is used. The method increases the probability of detection of the burst of multipath components, ie, it decreases the mean acquisition time for finding the existence of a multipath profile. The numerical results indicate that the method improves the acquisition performance significantly. The use of more than two transmit antennas is also addressed. The achievable data rates through puncturing are evaluated with a complete UTRA FDD downlink model using a conventional RAKE receiver. The results show that with a space-time block code for two transmit antennas combined with two receiving antennas the date rates can be easily more than doubled by puncturing, when compared to single antenna transmission and reception. Besides an infrastructure based networking mode, the profile for home environments follows the concept of a one-hop ad hoc network topology. Each so-called single subnet is coordinated by a central controller whereby all H/2 home devices are capable of this function. In order to improve efficiency, direct link (DiL) communication among the home devices is recommended. In contrast to conventional up- and downlink operation, this mode is more robust in case of topology changes. The potentialities of DiL connectivity have been investigated in this paper not only for the well-known one-hop configuration, but also for the perspective of multihop ad hoc networks. A promising measure to enable high downlink data rates consists in improving the carrier-to-interference ratios at the mobile receivers by the utilization or adaptive mufti-element transmit antennas. However, for the efficient operation of such antennas information about the downlink radio channels is required at the base stations. In the case of the 3G partial standard time division(TD)-CDMA designated for the time division duplexing (TDD) radio frequency bands, such information-thanks to the reciprocity theorem-is readily available from the uplink channel estimators. However, the 3G partial standard W(wideband)-CDMA designated for the frequency division duplexing (FDD) radio frequency bands suffers from the inherent disadvantage that, due to the frequency difference between uplink and downlink, the results of the uplink channel estimation cannot be directly used as the channel information required for adjusting the multi-element transmit antennas. Nevertheless, as long as the frequency difference between uplink and downlink is not too large, approaches to an at least sub-optimum adjustment of the downlink transmit antennas based on uplink channel estimates exist.
