The proposed algorithm selects an optimal channel in terms of occupancy and quality, e.g. signal to noise ratio (SNR) for transmission. It allows secondary users (SU) to learn the spectrum not only on the vacancy point of view but also on the expected transmission quality by selecting two distinguishable exploration coefficients. Our contribution is threefold: i) We propose a new learning algorithm achieving optimal trade-off between exploration and exploitation when OSA scenario is modeled as a Markov multi-armed bandit (MAB) problem. ii) We state that under mild conditions on the state transition probabilities of Markov chains, the regret of the QoS-UCB policy behaves logarithmically over time. iii) We numerically compare our scheme with an existing UCB1 in OSA context and also show that QoS-UCB outperforms traditional UCB1 in terms of regret.","PeriodicalId":315934,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE Globecom Workshops (GC Wkshps)","volume":"35 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-12-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122682344","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, the deployment of large-scale WLAN still has management issues. Moreover, while newer WLAN technologies and services have been emerging at a prolific rate, the architecture of WLAN networks has largely been static and difficult to evolve. In this paper, we present a novel architecture for carrier-managed WLAN networks which leverages Network Function Virtualization concepts and virtualization technology in general. It is based on a WLAN Cloudlet which offloads MAC layer processing from access points and consolidates network functions and value-added services. All these functions and services are based on software instances. This brings more flexibility and adaptability and permits to easily implement new services while reducing CAPEX/OPEX and network equipment cost (e.g., access points).","PeriodicalId":315934,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE Globecom Workshops (GC Wkshps)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-12-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123815145","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Nowadays, people use these devices to access the Internet, communicate, socialize and handle their short or long-term businesses. As these devices rely on their batteries, energy-efficiency has become one of the major issues in both academia and industry. Due to terminal mobility, variety of Radio Access Technologies (RATs) and need to be always best connected (ABC) to the Internet anytime and anywhere, energy-efficient interface selection has to be taken into account carefully. In this context, this roadmap intends to raise the awareness of energy efficiency, and to highlight a green interface selection process in which additional standardization is needed. The roadmap first describes essential rules of energy- efficient interface/network selection procedure. Then, it discusses future policies of green interface selection standardization for smart mobile devices, from the perspective of governments, non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and companies.","PeriodicalId":315934,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE Globecom Workshops (GC Wkshps)","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-12-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130898613","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

GSFIM uses both spatial domain and frequency domain to encode bits through indexing. In GSFIM, information bits are mapped through antenna indexing in the spatial domain, subcarrier indexing in the frequency domain, and M-ary modulation. GSFIM can offer higher rates using fewer transmit radio frequency (RF) chains and better performance compared to conventional MIMOOFDM. In this paper, we address the problem of low-complexity encoding and detection of large-dimensional GSFIM signals. The proposed encoding procedure exploits the low complexity computation of combinadics in combinatorial number system. This allows `on-the-fly' computation of GSFIM encoding maps. For detecting GSFIM signals, we propose a low complexity detection algorithm based on a multi-stage message passing approach. The proposed low complexity encoding/detection algorithms allow practical implementation of large-dimension GSFIM systems.","PeriodicalId":315934,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE Globecom Workshops (GC Wkshps)","volume":"62 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124264053","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Much research has focused on coexistence cognitive networks- where secondary users are vying for spectral \"white space\" when primary users vacate a licensed frequency band. This work will instead focus on an \"open spectrum\" regime, where there are no primary or secondary users, but all are provided equal access to the available band. Many cognitive medium access control (MAC) layers have been proposed to regulate the use of spectrum in a spectrum sharing regime, but most require the use of a common control channel (CCC) for information exchange. Additionally, while there is much research focusing on the spectrum sensing problem (detecting the presence of unused bands), the problem of spectrum recognition (determining the band of a signal of interest) has not received as much attention. We propose a new modulation scheme, frequency envelope modulation (FEM), that enables the creation of an open, cognitive ad hoc network. This network uses distributed spectrum sensing and information sharing to dispense with the need for a CCC. The effect of FEM on the physical layer is analyzed, as well as the network configuration time using FEM. We show that knowledge sharing via FEM reduces configuration time exponentially compared to uncoordinated scanning.","PeriodicalId":315934,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE Globecom Workshops (GC Wkshps)","volume":"35 10","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"120978542","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This means a substantial spectral efficiency increase, which must be achieved while maintaining or even improving the power efficiency. To overcome the necessity of using inefficient linear HPA in typical communication systems, this paper addresses the use of the LINC technique for power amplification, since it employs grossly NL HPA that are simpler and much more energy efficient than the linear ones. However, this technique's efficiency is harshly damaged for signals with a large PAPR, as for systems employing high order spectral efficient modulations and/or close to Nyquist bandwidth limiting pulse-shaping, due mainly to the LINC signal separation and power combining procedures. However, given that any M-ary constellation can be split as a sum of several OQPSK signals, a new MM method is proposed for OQPSK signals with bandwidth close to Nyquist, that limit both maximum and minimum envelope excursions of the signal without spreading its spectrum. This method is also shown to improve the transmitter's resilience to small gain and phase imbalances between the LINC's amplifiers. The proposed scheme can play a critical role on the upcoming 5G, since arranging several units of the proposed transmitter in an array/parallel configuration has the potential to simultaneously achieve the required high power and spectral efficiency.","PeriodicalId":315934,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE Globecom Workshops (GC Wkshps)","volume":"111 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124884093","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Malicious nodes may exploit the cognitive engine of CRs, and conduct belief manipulation attacks to degrade the network performance. In this paper, we address the problem of belief manipulation attacks and develop a distributed trust management strategy to detect and mitigate such attacks in CRNs. Specifically, we first study the impact of malicious behaviors to the network performance, and define trust evaluation metrics to capture malicious behaviors. We then illustrate how to incorporate distributed trust management to mitigate the effectiveness of belief manipulation attacks to enhance the security in CRNs. Performance evaluation results show that the network end-to-end throughput is significantly improved compared to the case when all users are by default trusted to be normal users.","PeriodicalId":315934,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE Globecom Workshops (GC Wkshps)","volume":"33 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125868125","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The basic idea of SDN is to separate the control and data forwarding functions of routers so that the traffic engineering (TE) optimization can be dynamically made by a central controller. However the application of SDN concept in dense wireless networks is not straightforward. Unlike wired networks, the channel capacity of wireless networks always changes, depending on the mobility of users, channel fading and interference. In dense wireless networks with mobile users, the impacts of varying channel capacity are more difficult to handle because of small cell size. In this paper, we propose SDN-based integrated solutions to support user mobility in dense wireless networks. Our solutions include traffic engineering, dynamic placement of virtual user gateway, and fountain coding. Our simulation results from a SDN-based simulator show that our solutions bring remarkable gains compared with conventional solutions.","PeriodicalId":315934,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE Globecom Workshops (GC Wkshps)","volume":"99 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125972140","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Where there is overlapping coverage of multiple Radio Access Technologies, with no cooperation between them, a vehicle can use the different technologies simultaneously to enhance performance and improve resilience. This paper proposes an uplink Multi Interface Scheduling System (MISS) that incorporates intelligent interface selection, located at an intermediate shim layer on the user side, to achieve efficient bandwidth aggregation, or lower delay. The data can be sent on multiple technologies simultaneously or separately based on user preference and required performance. Rather than finding the best alternative amongst different technologies, this paper's algorithm aims to find all the available networks that can meet multiple criteria. Simulation has been carried out to determine the performance of the system in the presence of a range of different service types. The simulation results show that safety critical traffic can be prioritized in terms of throughput and delay where the resources are insufficient for all the services. This algorithm is ideally suited to vehicular networks, particularly where delivery of safety traffic is an essential requirement.","PeriodicalId":315934,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE Globecom Workshops (GC Wkshps)","volume":"38 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122422137","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In cellular networks, achieving reliable communication is challenging due to many factors, particularly the fading of the desired signal and the interference. In this regard, we investigate the potential of several techniques to combat these main threats. The analysis shows that traditional microscopic multiple-input multiple-output schemes with 2×2 or 4×4 antenna configurations are not enough to fulfil stringent reliability requirements. It is revealed how such antenna schemes must be complemented with macroscopic diversity as well as interference management techniques in order to ensure the necessary SINR outage performance. Based on the obtained performance results, it is discussed which of the feasible options fulfilling the ultra-reliable criteria are most promising in a practical setting, as well as pointers to supplementary techniques that should be included in future studies.","PeriodicalId":315934,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE Globecom Workshops (GC Wkshps)","volume":"108 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122520236","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
