Objective: To evaluate the knowledge of the personnel of the “N” clinic about SOGCS. Materials and methods: A descriptive and evaluative methodology was applied to assess the degree of knowledge of the personnel working at the clinic about these regulations. The sample consisted of 341 randomly selected staff members from all areas of the clinic, who were surveyed for this study. Results: It was possible to demonstrate a lack of awareness about the generalities of Decree 1011 of 2006; the study evidenced, however, that the surveyed personnel know about the normative standards, given that the institution is in the process of qualification and continuously trains its staff. Conclusion: Although the degree of knowledge about SOGCS is good, it is necessary to strengthen the training process of the personnel to improve their specific knowledge about Decree 1011 of 2006.","PeriodicalId":31094,"journal":{"name":"Ciencia y Tecnologia para la Salud Visual y Ocular","volume":"15 1","pages":"15-29"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-08-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47881531","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For this reason, it is essential to perform all the pre-surgical and postsurgical exams available, since iatrogenic ectasias can be prevented. Likewise, the biomechanical aspects of the cornea after laser surgery, such as the percentage of altered tissue and residual stromal thickness, provide extremely important data to determine the future behavior of the cornea after procedure. In this case report, the patient presented with penetrating keratoplasty caused by unilateral post-LASIK ectasia. For this reason, he was referred to optometry for visual assessment and rehabilitation, where a complete examination was carried out and the existing alternatives for the correction of the case were analyzed in depth. Finally, a scleral contact lens was adapted.","PeriodicalId":31094,"journal":{"name":"Ciencia y Tecnologia para la Salud Visual y Ocular","volume":"15 1","pages":"115-123"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-03-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"68271900","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Methodology : This descriptive and narrative study was developed in two phases: the first phase was a documentary study on the history of the neighborhood, the limits of its territory, its public transportation routes and the main infrastructures that compose it. The second phase consisted of a tour through the neighborhood. Based on the data collected during the two phases, the study described what was observed in the neighborhood and its relation to the history and present reality of the sector. Results : The history of Las Nieves goes back to the origins of Bogota; the neighborhood emerged around the church and the pile of water established in this sector and became a site of manufacturing, commercial, and leisure activities—legal and illegal. The deterioration of the neighborhood was only reversed starting in the late twentieth century, thanks to the private initiatives of universities and companies and to public policies aimed at recovering the center of Bogota. Conclusion : Territory and population are two elements that mutually determine each other. Their confluence generates the quality of life and health of the inhabitants, or the lack thereof. Las Nieves is no exception, even more so when it is a neighborhood of great cultural and historical wealth that has shaped its territory in a particular way, which makes it a stronghold for the city of Bogota.","PeriodicalId":31094,"journal":{"name":"Ciencia y Tecnologia para la Salud Visual y Ocular","volume":"15 1","pages":"13-26"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-03-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45677369","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Objective: To characterize the diversity of resident and transient conjunctival microbiota in young adults. Methodology: A cross-sectional observational descriptive study including 67 young adults, men and women between 18 and 25 years of age, who met the inclusion criteria and agreed to sign the informed consent form. Two samples from the conjunctival sac were collected from each subject, with an interval of one week. These were cultured on blood agar and chocolate agar at 37 °C for 24 hours. Isolated colonies were identified using the VITEK automated system. Results: Sixteen genera and 29 different species were identified. The most common genus was Staphylococcus (55.6%), followed by Acinetobacter (12.0%), Bacillus (7.0%), Pasterella (4.6%) and Escherichia (3.7%). Resident microbiota consisted primarily of the genus Staphylococcus and its most representative species were S. epidermidis (50.0%) and S. lentus (13.3%). Conclusion: There is a great diversity of bacteria in the conjunctival flora, greater in the transient than in the resident microbiota; this probably depends on the environment in which the individual lives.","PeriodicalId":31094,"journal":{"name":"Ciencia y Tecnologia para la Salud Visual y Ocular","volume":"15 1","pages":"37-45"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-03-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"46780161","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For this reason, the study proposed to develop a review that would allow to analyze this technique based on the experience of patients who were treated with it. Objectives : To present scientific evidence of the use of orthokeratology for myopia control. Materials and methods : A bibliometric review of 50 scientific articles written between 1999 and 2015, with grade of recommendation B and level of evidence II−3, according to the United States Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) scale. The variables age, refractive defect, axial length and corneal curvature were considered. Results : 47% of the patients were younger than 15 years of age. The most important modifications through orthokeratology were found in patients with refractive values lower than −4.00 D (80%); one month after treatment, reductions of an average of −3.11 D were evidenced. The lenses used in the study mainly had an inverse geometry design, with materials with permeability greater than 100. Conclusions : Orthokeratology retards the progression of myopia; this is evidenced in 100% of the articles analyzed. There is a greater efficacy in the control of low myopia (myopia up to 4 D, according to Borish): 55% of patients with myopia from −0.25 to −1.00 D, while the remaining 45% is distributed between −1.25 and −7.00 D.","PeriodicalId":31094,"journal":{"name":"Ciencia y Tecnologia para la Salud Visual y Ocular","volume":"15 1","pages":"69-78"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-03-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47191393","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

De ahi que sea necesaria la limpieza de los lentes para asegurar la eliminacion de tales depositos. Uno de los metodos mas efectivos es la desproteinizacion, mediante la actividad proteolitica de las proteasas. Objetivos : evaluar la actividad proteolitica de una solucion empleada en la limpieza de lentes de contacto, como proyecto final de aula del espacio academico Bioquimica, del programa de Optometria de la Universidad de La Salle. Materiales y metodos : se desarrollaron cuatro ensayos con diferentes concentraciones de la solucion limpiadora frente a la misma concentracion de solucion de albumina. Se utilizo el reactivo de Biuret y el espectrofotometro PRIM. Asi mismo, se repitieron los mismos ensayos, pero esta vez se utilizo como disolvente de los reactivos la solucion indicada por el fabricante. Resultados : se encontro una disminucion en la absorbancia en las soluciones de albumina tratadas con las diferentes concentraciones de la solucion limpiadora, lo que indica su actividad proteolitica. La actividad enzimatica no se altera al usar agua destilada en lugar de la solucion indicada. Conclusiones : se encontro degradacion de proteinas por accion de la solucion limpiadora en los ensayos realizados. Se considera importante el uso de soluciones con actividad proteolitica en la limpieza y cuidado de lentes de contacto. Se recomienda su empleo entre los usuarios de estos.","PeriodicalId":31094,"journal":{"name":"Ciencia y Tecnologia para la Salud Visual y Ocular","volume":"15 1","pages":"59-66"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-03-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48413680","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Contraceptives are composed of hormones such as progestin and estrogens. Their use produces hormonal changes that systemically affect the body, which can cause ocular alterations, specifically in the tear film (TF). Similarly, TF can undergo transformations in its structure with the use of contact lenses (CL). The objective of this article is to inform visual health professionals about the changes that occur in TF with the simultaneous use of CL and hormonal contraceptive treatments, in order to improve clinical practice, especially in the adaptation of CL. The research was based on a bibliographical review to collect and correlate studies, articles and literature that examine the topic. In conclusion, it can be affirmed that sexual hormones such as estrogens, progesterone, prolactin and androgens can reduce the quality of TF. Alterations in hormone concentration and CL produce changes in the lipids and proteins of the meibomian glands (MG), which causes dry eye problems.","PeriodicalId":31094,"journal":{"name":"Ciencia y Tecnologia para la Salud Visual y Ocular","volume":"15 1","pages":"79-89"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-03-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45699790","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
