The impact of over 70 age on the survival of patients with NSCLC has not been studied. This study aimed to evaluate the impact of demographic and clinical variables on survival in Stage IV the NSCLC elderly patient. Methods: This study was a retrospective cohort analysis of 244 patients with advanced stage NSCLC, between January 2015 and December 2019. The patients were classified as the <70 years and ≥70 years. The primary and secondary outcomes were the overall survival and the impact of the demographics and clinical variables on survival, respectively. Results: The numbers of patients who were <70 and ≥70 years were 136 (55.7%) and 108 (44.3%), respectively. Although the overall survival in patients aged 70 years or older was shorter than that of the younger patients, the difference was statistically insignificant (p=0.236). Weight loss, ≥2 comorbidities and TNM stage IV were significantly associated with shorter overall survival. Conclusion: Weight loss, increased comorbidities and TNM stage IV are the independent risk factors for overall survival in patients with advanced stage of NSCLC. Older age did not found any impact on survival in the study.","PeriodicalId":310818,"journal":{"name":"Eurasian Journal of Medical Investigation","volume":"72 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139313912","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Peripheral blood test is a useful parameter in the evaluation of systemic inflammatory response. Previous studies have shown a relationship between monocyte count and prognosis in some solid tumors. The aim of this study was to evaluate the relationship between the monocyte count assessed at diagnosis and disease-free survival and prognosis in patients with esophageal cancer.Materials and Methods: The retrospective study included 145 patients with esophageal cancer who presented to Van Training and Research Hospital Medical Oncology outpatient clinic between January 2015 and September 2020. The effect of monocyte count assessed in the blood samples taken at the time of diagnosis prior to the initiation of the treatment on disease-free survival was investigated.Results: The Receiver Operating Characteristics (ROC) curve analysis determined a cut-off value of 515/μL for the monocyte count assessed at the time of diagnosis. Disease-free survival was 17.3 months (95% CI: 8.4-26.2) in patients with a monocyte count ≥515/μL as opposed to 38.5 months (95% CI: 28. 8-48.1) in patients with a monocyte count <515/μL. Moreover, low monocyte count at diagnosis was associated with significantly higher disease-free survival (p<0.001).Conclusion: It is considered that the proportional distribution of cells in peripheral blood count may reflect the severity of inflammation in the tumor microenvironment. Our findings showed that monocyte count is a prognostic factor affecting disease-free survival in patients with esophageal cancer, regardless of histological subtype.","PeriodicalId":310818,"journal":{"name":"Eurasian Journal of Medical Investigation","volume":"119 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133829704","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Resveratrol (RSV) is a polyphenol compound found naturally in fruits. Resveratrol's antioxidant, anti-aging, cardioprotective, anti-inflammatory, and anti-carcinogenic effects have been shown. This study aims to determine the effects of RSV on perfusion, neovascularization, inflammation, and granulation stages of wound healing in addition to its antioxidant capacity over GPX and SOD.Methods: 16 female rats were divided into two groups as the RSV and control groups. Six excisions were made in each rat. Three excisions in each rat were sutured and the other 3 were left as open wounds. Topical RSV was applied to the wounds of the rats in the RSV group. No treatment was given to the control group. Blood perfusion of the wounds in both groups were measured using the PeriScan PIM 3 System Laser Doppler Blood Perfusion Imager. Punch biopsies were taken for histopathological examinations and for the evaluation of SOD, GPX, and MDA.Results: GPX level of the closed wounds belonging to the RSV group was higher compared to the control group. There was no statistically significant difference in SOD and MDA levels between the groups. Neovascularization was registered higher in the open wounds of RSV group. Conclusion: Within parameters, resveratrol has been shown to be effective in wound healing in various ways. The results of this study may shed light on new therapeutic approaches that can be used in the reversal of oxidative stress in wound-causing diseases.","PeriodicalId":310818,"journal":{"name":"Eurasian Journal of Medical Investigation","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-08-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128866272","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The relationship between erythrocyte and platelet indices and inflammation has been shown in many studies. With good glycemic control, mean platelet volume and red blood cell distribution width levels can be reduced, thus preventing or delaying vascular complications in patients. The aim of our study is to examine the relationship between HbA1c and complete blood count indices in patients with diabetic patients. Methods: This retrospective study included 8077 diabetic patients aged 18 and over followed in internal medicine outpatient clinics. Results: In our study, there was a difference between the groups in terms of RDW and MPV levels. The HbA1c levels showed a positive correlation with RDW and MPV levels. Conclusion: Our study established that high MPV and RDW levels are associated with high HbA1c levels. Abstract Article: Findikli HA, Sirikci V, Kirac CO, Erdogan M.
