Despite the low accuracy, it is still attractive because of the simplicity and the ready availability in nearly every wireless system without any additional hardware or software required. This paper develops a geometric interpretation of trilateration in RSS-based 3D localization, which is presented in a previous paper but in 2D scenarios. In addition, to correct the final estimates, an iterative Maximum Likelihood (ML) estimator for position estimation is presented. The Artificial Neural Networks (ANNs) are then applied in estimating the related parameters to robustify the performance of the algorithm. When compared to earlier methods, simulation results demonstrate a considerable boost in performance.","PeriodicalId":303656,"journal":{"name":"2022 IEEE 21st Mediterranean Electrotechnical Conference (MELECON)","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121419080","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We have described the initial observation of Goos-Hänchen shift for an electromagnetic wave thrown back from the air-metal interface, when the shift becomes a function of temperature due to the optical properties of the metal which depend upon temperature [1]. We have considered both transverse electric and magnetic modes in this study. We have taken on the Drude model to perform the analysis of temperature-dependent Goos-Hänchen shift [2]. The collision or damping frequency of the metal is found through Holstein’s and Lawrence’s results [3]. This study shows the remarkable value of Goos-Hänchen shift which can further lead us to build temperature-monitoring optical sensors [4].","PeriodicalId":303656,"journal":{"name":"2022 IEEE 21st Mediterranean Electrotechnical Conference (MELECON)","volume":"77 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115930640","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, unlike High Spatial Resolution (HSR) data, Very High Spatial Resolution (VHSR) satellite images remain difficult to collect over large areas due to acquisition costs and a smaller swath. This often compromises the simultaneous use of both sources of data over same study areas for many applications. In this work, we investigate a land cover mapping setting in which both HSR and VHSR are available at the learning stage of a deep neural network while only the HSR data is available at inference time for model inference. We thus propose simple but effective strategies for enhancing the land cover classification in this scenario of incomplete multi-source remote sensing data when the model is deployed.","PeriodicalId":303656,"journal":{"name":"2022 IEEE 21st Mediterranean Electrotechnical Conference (MELECON)","volume":"165 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115961456","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As the first step of any Change Detection approach is the reduction of the speckle effects in every single SAR image. Local and non-local filters have been properly designed to reduce the noise effects and make more efficient the retrieval of changed features. In this work, a joint space-time non-local mean filter, relying on the mutual exploitation of similarities in time and space, is applied to the Kerala region, India, to determine the areas and the extent of a large flood that hit the region in 2018. The methods can be extended for the analysis of different phenomena, such as landslides, coastal flooding, crop monitoring changes depending on the resolution of available SAR images and the number of available SAR scenes that are compared to one another. In this work, some preliminarily results with sequences of Sentinel-1 SAR images are shown.","PeriodicalId":303656,"journal":{"name":"2022 IEEE 21st Mediterranean Electrotechnical Conference (MELECON)","volume":"46 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117252797","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Experimental results converge in identifying a transmembrane receptor, e.g., the adenosine receptor A2A, as a potential target for PEMFs application. This family of receptors plays a central role in a broad range of physiological processes which has made them important targets for structural biology. However, in silico modeling of this important receptor in presence of an external magnetic field is lacking. This paper provides an analysis for global and local molecular effects, especially for two main residues implicated in the so-called salt bridge interaction, that occurs in the extracellular part of the receptor when a static magnetic field with 1 T in intensity is applied.","PeriodicalId":303656,"journal":{"name":"2022 IEEE 21st Mediterranean Electrotechnical Conference (MELECON)","volume":"20 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125631607","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

With the majority of tumoral lesions located in the prostate’s peripheral zone, a precise segmentation of this region is imperative for tumor characterization. Despite the growing success of Convolution neural networks (CNN) in the task of prostate gland segmentation, there a is a knowledge gap in the performance of such networks for segmenting prostatic subregions. In the present work, we propose an novel Deep Learning (DL) approach, named PROper-Net, for segmenting the prostate’s peripheral zone on T2-weighted (T2w) MR images. Our network was compared against four state-of-the-art encoder–decoder CNNs: the original Unet, and its extensions Unet++, Unet3+, and Bridged Unet. Overlap- and distance-based metrics were computed to assess models’ performance and to quantify the superiority of the proposed segmentation approach. The results show that the proposed network successfully outperforms existing networks for the peripheral zone segmentation task, yielding a median performance of 0.74 in terms of Dice Score and 0.88 in terms of balanced accuracy. The improvement in segmentation performance was significant (p-value 0.05) with respect to Unet, Unet++, Unet3+ for all the evaluation metrics while for Bridged Unet significant improvement was achieved for Dice Score, Balanced Accuracy, Sensitivity, and Rand Error Index.","PeriodicalId":303656,"journal":{"name":"2022 IEEE 21st Mediterranean Electrotechnical Conference (MELECON)","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126775019","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
