Protection devices isolate a portion of the network affected by a fault, while control devices reduce the number of de-energized loads by transferring loads to neighboring feeders. The integration of distributed generation has the potential to improve the continuity of energy services through islanding operation during outage conditions. In this context, this paper presents a multi-objective optimization approach for the size and allocation of protection and control devices in distribution networks with microgrids supplied by renewable energy sources. Reclosers, fuses, remote-controlled switches, and directional relays are considered in the formulation. The demand and generation uncertainties define the islanding operation and the load transfer possibilities. A genetic algorithm is presented to solve the allocation problem. The compromise programming is performed to choose the best solution from the Pareto front. Results show interesting setups for the protection system and viability of islanding operation.","PeriodicalId":303656,"journal":{"name":"2022 IEEE 21st Mediterranean Electrotechnical Conference (MELECON)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129889158","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

On the bright side, the increased controllability of the Voltage Source Converters used as an interface of the CI-DRES with the grid together with the use of fast-acting Energy Storage Systems- such as Supercapacitors (SCs)- enable the CI-DRES to provide Ancillary Services (AS) to the grids. Since the majority of CI-DRES depends on a primary source with intermittent characteristics (wind, solar irradiance, etc.), a possible AS is the Ramp-Rate Limitation (RRL) of the active power of the CI-DRES primary source. This action is also referred as power smoothing. Several control strategies have been proposed in the technical literature, each of them having different advantages or drawbacks. This paper presents a parametric evaluation of the power smoothing control strategies which employ a SC. The parameters analyzed are the involved purchase cost, the measurement time window of the smart meters used within the electric power systems and the finally achieved RRL.","PeriodicalId":303656,"journal":{"name":"2022 IEEE 21st Mediterranean Electrotechnical Conference (MELECON)","volume":"47 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128365731","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This analysis is often in statistical terms. However, load and generation data can be noisy, sparse and irregular, with resulting difficulties in the following statistical analysis. A generative adversarial machine learning approach can be used to create artificial data with meaningful stochastic properties. This work focuses on the use of DCWGAN to create different profiles taken from multiple data clusters of residential sectors. This approach successfully extracts the statistical properties of the dataset and creates profiles based each on cluster with a given randomness. The implemented neural system is a powerful tool that can be used to create datasets useful for power flow analysis, optimal grid management and economic revenue simulation.","PeriodicalId":303656,"journal":{"name":"2022 IEEE 21st Mediterranean Electrotechnical Conference (MELECON)","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128230059","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The system is composed of an array of magnetically coupled resonant circuits which feeds a receiver that can be placed at any position over it. The power source is connected to the central resonator of the array. This study firstly defines the equivalent circuit of the resonator array for a generic receiver position considering the power source and the load of a typical WPT battery charger. This circuit model is then exploited to investigate the system performance and a suitable control strategy of the array-termination impedances is proposed to ensure maximum efficiency for any receiver position.","PeriodicalId":303656,"journal":{"name":"2022 IEEE 21st Mediterranean Electrotechnical Conference (MELECON)","volume":"55 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129951691","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Today, the seven biggest platforms capitalize about 9 trillion USD or roughly half of the total GDP of EU-27. The rise of platforms has not only met with unrestrained enthusiasm. In the European energy sector, roughly 200 platforms maintain business activities, that, at times, blurry the lines between different traditional segments of the energy supply chain. In our study, we applied a stress test on a treadmill with the regulated speed and incline. Because traditional parameters describing physical performance (heart rate, blood lactate concentration, VO2max) do not provide specific information about muscle activity, an alternative approach is needed. Such information may be derived from the analysis of electromyograms (EMG signals) in the frequency domain–in the form of median frequency (MDF). The changes of MDF were analyzed for four phases of the experiment: the initial state, walking with the velocity of 4 mph (6.44km/h), walking with the highest walking velocity (4.5-6 mph; 7. 24-9.66km/h), and the rest. The coefficients of linear regression (slope and intercept) indicate the decrease of median frequency of the EMG signal during phases 2 and 3 and the increase of MDF during the rest. Observed values of linear regression of the median frequency of surface EMG during the analyzed phases indicate the usefulness of such analyses in evaluating muscle fatigue, which may find its use in monitoring the interval training.","PeriodicalId":303656,"journal":{"name":"2022 IEEE 21st Mediterranean Electrotechnical Conference (MELECON)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125165498","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
