This code predicts that plasma temperatures somewhat lower than had been previously expected can be produced when attenuation of the laser pulse is taken into account. We have confirmed these results in a preliminary experiment using a sodium heat sandwich oven that provides 360° optical access.","PeriodicalId":298672,"journal":{"name":"Advances in Laser Science-I","volume":"36 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-06-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131602972","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Several probe wavelengths were used following excitation with 30ps pulses of 532nm light. The results indicate that population of the electronically excited A(3πlu) and A’(3π2u) states occur rapidly (<30ps) following dissociation. Analysis of transient absorption intensities indicates that repopulation of the ground electronic state of I2 requires about 30–50ps. The difference in population times may be understood in terms of trapping in weakly bound electronic states (perhaps 3π0–u) which relax to populate the ground state, or in terms of slow atom recombination into the ground state. Vibrational relaxation rates through the ground state manifoeld were interpreted in terms of vibration to translation energy transfer as given by the Schwartz, Slawsky, Herzfeld theory.","PeriodicalId":298672,"journal":{"name":"Advances in Laser Science-I","volume":"69 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-06-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121388152","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The spectra were observed via vibrational predissociation in a molecular beam apparatus. The results permitted structural assignments to be made for Ar‐C2H4 and (HF)3. The dependence of the predissociation dynamics on structure, vibrational mode, molecular complexity and binding energy has been examined. No evidence for rapid (≲25 psec) predissociation or vibrational relaxation has been observed for binary complexes. A 527‐nm picosecond pulse excites the 4T2 state of the Cr3+ ion, and an infrared picosecond probe pulse monitors the subsequent growth and decay of population in the excited states as a function of pump‐probe delay. An upper limit of 7 ps is determined for the nonradiative lifetime of the 4T2 state in ruby. A vibrational relaxation time of 25 ps for the 4T2 band in alexandrite is estimated. The time to attain thermal equilibrium population between the 2E and 4T2 levels of alexandrite following excitation of the 4T2 band is estimated to be ∼100 ps.","PeriodicalId":298672,"journal":{"name":"Advances in Laser Science-I","volume":"38 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-06-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114774412","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
