The problem is the efficient utilization of the wavelengths in a given EPON in a dynamic manner. From the provided and supported optical transmission channels in a given scenario we have to assign a specific channel for upstream traffic by catering the two major subproblems. The subproblems are; grant sizing problem (how long to assign the channel) and grant scheduling problem (when and on which available supported channel we can transmit). Then we discuss different frameworks like online, offline and Just-in-time online scheduling frameworks with the idea of multichannel support We analyze the comparison of the frameworks on the bases of the average queuing delays that are incurred while EPON in operation, and get the idea that JIT online scheduling framework is better than the other two frameworks. Then we discuss some of the different scheduling policies for above mentioned three frameworks that can be used to solve our scheduling problem. In the end it is concluded by an idea of having a more complicated scheduler comparatively than the existing ones for multichannel support as the future direction we should be focused on for the further work. The major objective to achieve is, to design a scheduler for WDM EPON having maximum wavelength utilization and lower queuing delays.","PeriodicalId":291800,"journal":{"name":"2007 International Conference on Electrical Engineering","volume":"27 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-04-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132614669","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The selection is based on statistics of the input signal vis-a-vis energy compaction and resolution power properties of the transforms employed which include the DFT (uniform subbands), DFT (critical subbands), DCT and CELP( for speech only blocks). The performance of the codec is compared with the widely famous MPEG-1 Layer-III algorithm. Efficiency enhancement is indicated by improved grades of subjective listening test for the proposed codec compared to those for MPEG-1 Layer-III at similar bit rates.. This paper proposes the recognition of a set of handwritten digits using mathematical morphology. Certain features that can be used to clearly distinguish one digit from the other are extracted. A decision tree has been developed to aid in the classification process. At each node a morphological operation is applied on the incoming digit, and the results dictate what the next step in the sequence should be. The method has been applied on a large sample collected from a diverse set of individuals. The recognition rates achieved are appreciable and substantially support the techniques discussed.","PeriodicalId":291800,"journal":{"name":"2007 International Conference on Electrical Engineering","volume":"310 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-04-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115909248","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, atmospheric attenuations and weather dependence remain the major hurdle in the wide scale acceptability of the technology. This paper proposes performance enhancement using higher state modulation schemes (i.e. 16 and 256-PPM) which promises a gain upto 25 dB when combined with RS codes as compared to the current widely used 2 state modulation mechanisms. The \"RS-coded PPM\" is shown as an extremely robust and well performing coded-modulation scheme for future FSO systems using a novel approach to terrestrial FSO channel modeling.","PeriodicalId":291800,"journal":{"name":"2007 International Conference on Electrical Engineering","volume":"52 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-04-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115147478","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

High-performance IC designs use multi-port cache memory to provide the needed accessibility and bandwidth. Since the word and bit lines cover the foot-print of the entire cache section, duplicating the word and bit lines for multiple ports results in large silicon area and increases bitline discharge and power dissipation. As technology scales down device size and supply voltages, static power dissipation has emerged as a critical factor in total system power dissipation. In this paper, we present an area-and energy-efficient multi-port cache memory architecture, which employs isolation nodes, local sense amplifiers and dynamic memory partitioning techniques, to facilitate simultaneous multi-port accesses without duplicating bitlines. The proposed cache memory architecture also reduces bitline latency.","PeriodicalId":291800,"journal":{"name":"2007 International Conference on Electrical Engineering","volume":"48 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-04-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128935338","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Real Images are often corrupted by noise from various sources. The classical edge detectors fail to give adequate intelligence of edges for images with depleted signal to noise ratio (SNR). A major dilemma in edge-detection for noisy images is the choice of optimum threshold which lacks generality. The dominance of noise in image reflects false edges in spatial domain. Addressing this dilemma, this paper presents a methodology and a framework in which smoothing effects of wavelet filters have been exploited prior to classical operators. Experimental results indicate that the hybrid edge detector gives qualitative and quantitative results comparable to Canny (1986), while it is simpler to implement.","PeriodicalId":291800,"journal":{"name":"2007 International Conference on Electrical Engineering","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-04-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125525563","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The predictions simplify die task of capacity planning for the network management by helping them determine when and to what extent future provisioning is required in the backbone. This is not easy as quantified information is missing about the rate of increase and the pattern followed by the Internet traffic demand. We have used various statistical analysis methods on aggregate Internet demand between two nodes to isolate the long term trend from the noisy short term fluctuations in the overall traffic pattern, ensure its variance is within control limits and finally make a model out of it to make predictions for future. The reliability of the future predictions given by our proposed model is proved empirically by the fact that the estimates of the future values deviate by only 7% from the actual values observed during that time.","PeriodicalId":291800,"journal":{"name":"2007 International Conference on Electrical Engineering","volume":"34 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-04-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116550719","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Since the new standardization recently introduced requites all existing substation devices to be replaced with the new ones. But for the developing countries, it is not feasible to completely replace the substation devices all at once due to involvement of huge investments. As a result, the power system operation cannot be improved due to non-availability of information regarding the status, history, fault report, etc. of such legacy substation devices. A communication adapter needed to integrate the substation legacy devices i.e. without communication capability, with the modern utility information retrieval systems. This paper will present the design and development of low cost optimal communication adapter which will be based on both hardware and software implementation. It will serve a lot keeping in view the new open energy market demands, low cost, interoperability, and computational speed, permitting sharing of data and computing resources across power system. The results of processing and related reports are concisely displayed on the user interface screen and exported through data files.","PeriodicalId":291800,"journal":{"name":"2007 International Conference on Electrical Engineering","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-04-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125739916","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
