Using necessary and sufficient revealed preference tests for dynamic games, we find: (i) a rejection of the standard game- theoretic arguments based on strategic substitutes, and instead (ii) support for models building on reciprocity-like behavior and strategic complements. By estimating strategic interactions directly, we ?nd that reciprocity-like interactions drive behavior more than market and climate trends. Taken together, we take a step toward developing more realistic models to understand groundwater usage, and related issues pertaining to tragedy of the commons and commons governance.","PeriodicalId":280559,"journal":{"name":"Hydrology eJournal","volume":"97 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-08-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127088178","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Fuzzy logic is not limited to any prescribed field of Engineering it can be used in communication sectors as well as it can be used in core branches such as Civil and mechanical Engineering. Fuzzy logic has also its application in the field of environmental and water resources. Fuzzy logic is a probabilistic approach which is used to demonstrate the partial truth and incorporate uncertain conditions to deal very important problems. Fuzzy logic has wide spread applications in environmental engineering and water quality. In the present study fuzzy rule based models have been developed for the assessment of groundwater quality index and the same has been compared with conventional groundwater quality index. The values of groundwater quality parameters for the development of model has been taken as per WHO (world health organization) and GPCB (Gujarat Pollution Control Board) standards. Both the quality index have been compared on the basis of development of framework and derived results from earlier researches shows that fuzzy rule based computational model gives prominent results when compared to conventional groundwater quality index.","PeriodicalId":280559,"journal":{"name":"Hydrology eJournal","volume":"20 4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-02-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125604751","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The simulation developed locations that the concentration generated fluctuation to the depth were it was in significant in the formation, this was observed to be in an area were Citrobacter experiences degradation due to lack of microelement for growth. Moreso its deposition in shallow Phreatic zone has evaluated the rate of transport with respect to time and depth from the study carried out, it was observed to be predominantly influenced by high porosity in the formation, the influences of alluvium deposit in these condition could not influences the aquiferous zone by uniformity of the Phreatic deposited strata. Formation characteristics stated above were found significant in the migration of Citrobacter from surface to phreatic zone. The models were simulated and it produced theoretical values compared with other measured results, both parameters developed a favuorable fits validating the model.","PeriodicalId":280559,"journal":{"name":"Hydrology eJournal","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-06-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134302307","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As such, the primary purpose of this study is to estimate the potential parameters of flood occurrence of the Gandara River along San Jorge channel through its topography, hydrological characteristics and siltation manifestation. As part of an assessment process, this study also defines the existing practice of flood control initiatives, evaluate and eventually propose a flood control program. As guided by the DPWH Flood Control Planning Manual, assessment and computation of the needed parameters in planning and design of flood control program was processed through HEC-HMS (Hydrological Engineering Center–Hydrologic Modeling System) software. Findings suggest San Jorge urban areas, as well as portions of its adjacent barangays as depicted in topography, is surrounded by significant upland and rolling area. Gandara River Basin at San Jorge channel is considered a flood prone. As to some hydrological characteristics contributory to a flooding event, at extreme precipitation, the resulting floodplain adjacent to the river channel covers a total 4,315,568 square meters, inundating big portion of mostly a commercial, educational and agricultural area. Peak discharge is 1474 cubic meters per second, that produces a flood depth that reached up to about 7 meters which are significantly high. Sedimentation or siltation is also contributory to flooding events in the area, As there is no concrete strategy of flood control yet, flooding event remains a devastating phenomenon annually. Hence, it is imperative to establish a mitigating if not a control measures for Gandara River at San Jorge, Samar, Philippines. Presented in the last part of this study is a proposal for Flood Control Program for Gandara River as a recommendation to the local government of San Jorge, Samar, Philippines.","PeriodicalId":280559,"journal":{"name":"Hydrology eJournal","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-05-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128792474","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Yet it has not been adequately recognized in the water resources planning literature that overestimation of interdependence may also contribute to lack of progress in cooperation in many systems. This paper examines the nature and degree of economic interdependence in new and existing water storage projects in the Ganges River basin based on analysis conducted using the Ganges Economic Optimization Model. We find that constructing large dams on the upstream tributaries of the Ganges would have much more limited effects on controlling downstream floods than is thought and that the benefits of low-flow augmentation delivered by storage infrastructures are currently low. A better understanding of actual and prospective effects of interdependence not only changes the calculus of the benefits and costs of different scenarios of infrastructure development, but might also allow riparian countries to move closer to benefit sharing positions that are mutually acceptable.","PeriodicalId":280559,"journal":{"name":"Hydrology eJournal","volume":"210 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-10-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121209284","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

{"title":"Bayesian Inference for Mixtures of Stable Distributions","authors":"R. Casarin","doi":"10.2139/ssrn.739791","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.2139/ssrn.739791","url":null,"abstract":"In many different fields such as hydrology, telecommunications, physics of condensed matter and finance, the gaussian model results unsatisfactory and reveals difficulties in fitting data with skewness, heavy tails and multimodality. The use of stable distributions allows for modelling skewness and heavy tails but gives rise to inferential problems related to the estimation of the stable distributions' parameters. Some recent works have proposed characteristic function based estimation method and MCMC simulation based estimation techniques like the MCMC-EM method and the Gibbs sampling method in a full Bayesian approach. The aim of this work is to generalise the stable distribution framework by introducing a model that accounts also for multimodality. In particular we introduce a stable mixture model and a suitable reparametrisation of the mixture, which allow us to make inference on the mixture parameters. We use a full Bayesian approach and MCMC simulation techniques for the estimation of the posterior distribution. Finally we propose some applications of stable mixtures to financial data.","PeriodicalId":280559,"journal":{"name":"Hydrology eJournal","volume":"70 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122769254","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
