Anyway, because of reasons like expensiveness of devices and installation issues, the sensor coverage is often inadequate to the accomplish the goals of a modern smart city. To surpass such issues, a novel paradigm becomes attractive that, once a specific domain is given, allows the creation of a system capable to virtually augment the sensor network, i.e. providing measurement estimation where sensors are unavailable. This kind of approach s particularly focused on training a target Neural Network model, which outlines environmental issues, on urban areas provided with large sensor network, and then to make other areas, equipped with poor sensor networks, take advantage of the same model. The present work has been specialized on the domain of air pollution that, because of the complex urban environment and the huge costs of measurements devices, represents a case study extremely fitting the problem.","PeriodicalId":272577,"journal":{"name":"2019 IEEE International Symposium on Measurements & Networking (M&N)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130585876","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Several papers in literature showed that CRT-based forwarding techniques outperform more traditional approaches in terms of trade-offs between reliability, energy consumptions and computational complexity. However, although the advantages of the method were clear, all reported results were only obtained through either simulations on ideal sensor networks or simplistic analytical models. In this paper we provide detailed experimental results on CRT-based forwarding schemes obtained on a real wireless sensor network. In particular, the effect of all relevant parameters are investigated. Moreover, we show that, with proper choice of design parameters, experimental results are in agreement with numerical results predicted by analytical models.","PeriodicalId":272577,"journal":{"name":"2019 IEEE International Symposium on Measurements & Networking (M&N)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131003587","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Frequent testing and measurements over a 20 years period of time showed a common weakness of this particular muscle group in more than 70% of investigated persons. Following a routine training has demonstrated an effective improvement in low back health. The Smart4Health project aims at empowering EU Citizens with an interoperable and exchangeable European Electronic Health Record (EHR) that will allow EU citizens to be active participants in managing their own health. As part of project activities, Smart4Health will upgrade existing physiotherapy devices with real-time measurements and connectivity capabilities, meeting new medical device regulations. Force and angle sensors measurement technology will be connected and integrated in the Smart4Health framework, enabling the patient with a real-time performance visualization and the treatment data upload for a secure cloud. The clinicians can then keep track of the patient treatment and made the necessary adjustments (if needed). The physiotherapy device and its sensors are connected over a secure network, enabling the data collection of health-related data. Moreover, an intelligent sensors network collecting citizen health and wellbeing data, adds information to citizen’s EHR.","PeriodicalId":272577,"journal":{"name":"2019 IEEE International Symposium on Measurements & Networking (M&N)","volume":"55 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132369103","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The sensor works as a vibrating transducer, in cantilever configuration and produced a voltage signal as a consequence of the applied deformation. The influence of the added-mass on the frequency response of the system is exploited for estimating the value of the measurand. Though generating properties of composites based on BC have been already demonstrated, this is the first report showing the possibility of mass sensing by using such composites. The sensing system is based on cheap, flexible, and ecofriendly materials suitable to the realization of next to come smart ubiquitous sensing systems. The performance of the sensing system are shown in the paper.","PeriodicalId":272577,"journal":{"name":"2019 IEEE International Symposium on Measurements & Networking (M&N)","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115480205","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The design is focused on improving the traffic analysis rate that can be obtained per CPU core in the analysis machine. SMB is most commonly transported over Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) and therefore its analysis requires TCP stream reconstruction. We evaluate a traffic analysis design which does not require stream reconstruction. We compare the results obtained to a reference full reconstruction analysis, both in accuracy of the measurements and maximum rate per CPU core. We achieve an increment of 30% in the traffic processing rate, at the expense of a small loss in accuracy computing the probability distribution function for the protocol response times.","PeriodicalId":272577,"journal":{"name":"2019 IEEE International Symposium on Measurements & Networking (M&N)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123900067","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This process is one of the main enabler of the forthcoming 5G network. Despite the huge amount of research that has been carried out in the recent literature around both service definition and deployment in a 5G network, and characterization of quality of service (QoS) and quality of experience (QoE), there is the need of testing services on field, in order to understand how key performance indices (KPI) depend on each level of the deployment architecture. This paper considers DiMoViS, an implementation of a softwarized video surveillance system in 5G networks, with the target of identifying the main QoS and QoE performance parameters. Measurements of these parameters are achieved by using a 5G platform provided by the European Fire TRIANGLE project.","PeriodicalId":272577,"journal":{"name":"2019 IEEE International Symposium on Measurements & Networking (M&N)","volume":"54 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122032160","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A mobile versus fixed web workload characterization is much needed because the potentially different traffic patterns on mobile devices poses a new challenge that may have rendered past studies obsolete. In this paper, we present a longitudinal, comparative analysis on the mobile and fixed workloads of a large academic web server. With almost 9 billion requests in total, this is, to the best of our knowledge, the largest workload characterization study from a mobile versus fixed viewpoint. We find the diurnal traffic pattern to be weaker on mobile devices and the inter-reference, inter-session duration to be longer for mobile requests. Some comparable results were present across the device types but in most cases, workload characteristics differed between mobile and fixed device requests. Taking into account this mobile-fixed disparity is crucial to optimizing web server performance in the future as mobile traffic grows.","PeriodicalId":272577,"journal":{"name":"2019 IEEE International Symposium on Measurements & Networking (M&N)","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129399570","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The analysis is based on spectrum acquisitions carried out on surely vacant channels by employing a commercial Software Defined Radio. The effects of noise variance variability is then evaluated in simulation environment by imposing the variations measured in actual power measurements during the experimental campaign lasting 48-hours. The achieved results clearly prove a significant performance degradation in terms of probability of both detection and false alarm, which in turn could provoke the loss of compliance of the spectrum sensing performance with respect to constraints given by international standards, as IEEE 802.22.3. The paper paths the way to further investigations aiming at providing an upper bound to noise power estimation time period in order to keep the noise uncertainty under tolerable limits.","PeriodicalId":272577,"journal":{"name":"2019 IEEE International Symposium on Measurements & Networking (M&N)","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132584358","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Low-power wireless communications are compulsory to reduce the smart object invasiveness and ensure reasonable duration of autonomous node. For this reason, several Low-Power Wide-Area Network (LPWAN) technologies have been proposed in the recent past, because of their large range and low consumption. Most notably, the LoRaWAN solution emerged as the most accepted LPWAN and several research works appeared, discussing its advantages and limitations. However, very few, if any, discuss timing performance in a real scenario, considering not only the wireless frontend but also the wired backend. In this work, the authors implement a real use case based on a public LoRaWAN infrastructure and propose metrics to formally evaluate the delays at the application level (i.e. considering the whole infrastructure as a black box). The result is an average delay in the range 400-700 ms, and the proof that the delay is directly dependent on both the LoRaWAN backend and the connection speed of information endpoints.","PeriodicalId":272577,"journal":{"name":"2019 IEEE International Symposium on Measurements & Networking (M&N)","volume":"53 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116600144","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
