Unfortunately, a lack of research makes it impossible to characterise the skills of contemporary children. Research Aim: To establish the current ability of pre-school children to reproduce constructions and to determine how these skills have changed in relation to research conducted 70 years earlier (Popiel, 1955–1957). Method: In order to compare the results of the research conducted, the tools were recreated and the method of the research conducted 70 years earlier was repeated. Seven finished constructions were presented to the children and the method of recreating them was recorded. The description included the method of construction and the correctness of the reconstructed construction. Results: The level of reproduction of the constructions is similar. However, modern children are better at recreating more difficult constructions. The small number of subjects limits the generalising power of the results of the study. Conclusions: The results of the study shed some light on children’s constructional abilities. They indicate that the situation of recreating constructions can be used as a form of supporting children’s mental development. The differences in the results of the studies indicate that caution should be exercised in citing research findings on the construction skills of children living many years earlier. Research is needed to explore these issues in more depth.","PeriodicalId":258263,"journal":{"name":"Lubelski Rocznik Pedagogiczny","volume":"40 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123238223","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The object of analysis is the legal norms included in the texts of legal acts in the system of universally binding national law in the area of education and care of foreign children in primary education. Research Aim: The research objective is to analyse, interpret and evaluate the formal-legal basis of the functioning of the child/student – foreigner in the space of elementary education. Evidence-based Facts:In studies on the legal empowerment of the foreign child/student in the Polish education system, there is a lack of analyses focusing on the initial stages of education. What is missing in this respect is a thorough analysis of the legal regulations constituting the basis for activities in the area of early childhood education. Summary: The article identifies and discusses the current legal solutions constituting the basis for the functioning of a foreign child/student in the space of elementary education. It analyses and interprets the legal regulations in the system of internal (national) generally applicable law concerning education and care of foreign children. Legal institutions serving the realisation of the right to education and integration were presented. The scopes of legislative shortcomings and directions of necessary changes to improve the functioning of foreigners in the are a of early childhood education are indicated.","PeriodicalId":258263,"journal":{"name":"Lubelski Rocznik Pedagogiczny","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117180952","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The text focuses on the contemporary needs of students based on radical and social constructivism. The main dimensions of critical constructivism and elements of a constructivist learning environment are outlined based on Peter Taylor and Barry Fraser’s concept. Research Aim:The aim is to show critical constructivism as a set of various theories, concepts creating conditions for independent construction of knowledge and creating a friendly-learning environment. Evidence-based Facts:The concept is derived from the teaching imperative (John Dewey, Jean Piaget, Lev Vygotsky and Howard Gardner). It assumes that learning is an active process of constructing knowledge based on the experience of the learner and such construction is usually completed subjectively and metacognitively). The concept of constructivism is quite often used by both theoreticians (academic lecturers and researchers) as well as practitioners (school teachers). Summary: In the article, we analyze the role played by a constructivist learning environment that radically questions the vision of a student as a passive recipient and gives him the status of an active subject contributing to the construction of a learning-friendly environment. Education should be seen as supporting the student in the process of creating meanings that allow to construct your own understanding of the world.","PeriodicalId":258263,"journal":{"name":"Lubelski Rocznik Pedagogiczny","volume":"85 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131319947","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In addition to the classic stressors, there were new challenges that students coped with. Research Aim: This research aims to investigate the relationship between self-efficacy and psychological well-being exploring the moderating effect of perceived positive changes in functioning in students during the COVID-19 pandemic. Method: The diagnostic survey and questionnaire technique were used. Main outcome measures, the General Self-Efficacy Scale, Scale of Positive Changes in Student Functioning in the COVID-19 Pandemic, and Psychological Well-Being Scale were used. Results: Significant and positive correlations were found between included variables. The obtained results show that the relationship between self-efficacy and psychological well-being are moderating by perceived positive changes in functioning in students during the COVID-19 pandemic. Conclusion: The findings presented in the study provide an important rationale to pay special attention to the psychological well-being of students during the COVID-19 pandemic and its direct and indirect determinants.","PeriodicalId":258263,"journal":{"name":"Lubelski Rocznik Pedagogiczny","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-04-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122499841","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It was formally introduced on January 1, 2022. It must replace the current ICD-10 classification within five years. Research Aim: The aim of this study was to indicate the consequences of introducing the ICD-11 in the area of research and psychological and pedagogical practice. Moreover, an important goal was also to trace the implementation of the new classification in Poland. In addition, the most important changes introduced by the ICD-11 were reviewed in a horizontal approach, and so comparative with the ICD-10 and vertical, consisting in the identification of new items in the classification that do not fit into the current systematics. Evidence-based Facts: Given the implications of the ICD-11 in psychology and pedagogy, Chapter 6 on mental, behavioral and neurodevelopmental disorders deserves special attention. A pedagogue and a psychologist who are part of various diagnostic and therapeutic teams, most often cooperate with a psychiatrist and a neurologist, and this implies the practical use of ICD-11. Knowledge of classification and the ability to efficiently retrieve information in the ICD appear to be a necessary skill for practitioners. Conclusion: The process of implementing ICD-11 in our country will last at least until 2025 or even until 2026. During this period, the ICD-10 classification will still be used in medical practice, which implies its further presence also in psychological and pedagogical practice, as well as in scientific research using current diagnoses.","PeriodicalId":258263,"journal":{"name":"Lubelski Rocznik Pedagogiczny","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-04-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126408549","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Attitudes, in turn, influence behavior, which, in turn, shape organizational culture. Many contemporary publications emphasize the important role of cultural institutions in shaping the cultural life of Poles. Therefore, it seems interesting what attitudes towards work are displayed by their employees. Research Aim: The considerations in the article concern the professional attitudes of employees of cultural institutions and are aimed at diagnosing the relationship between the level of these attitudes and the socio-professional characteristics of this professional group. Method: The research was conducted using the survey method, using the survey technique in the second half of 2021, among 134 employees of various types of cultural institutions in the Lubelskie and Mazowieckie voivodeships. The deliberately random selection of the sample was made in such a way that institutions whose nature of activity falls within the adopted definition of a cultural institution were selected, while specific respondents were randomly selected. Results: The hypothesis was partially confirmed. Only a few relationships were found between the professional attitudes of the respondents and their social and professional characteristics. However, a differentiating influence of socio-professional factors was found both on the general level of attitudes and on their components. Conclusion: In the survey, employees of cultural institutions show a relatively high level of attitudes towards the work performed in general and towards its individual aspects, in particular, such as the atmosphere at work, adaptation of duties to skills and resources, and the proportion of work inputs to the results achieved. Significant exceptions are low levels of attitudes towards career advancement opportunities and earnings, which is an empirical confirmation of media reports and a hint for units institutionally organizing cultural life in Poland.","PeriodicalId":258263,"journal":{"name":"Lubelski Rocznik Pedagogiczny","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-04-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126485809","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Research Aim: The aim of this review is to analyze the role of motivation in learning as well as useful strategies to increase motivation to study. Evidence-based Facts: This narrative review is based on a detailed analysis of the data collected from the empirical studies on the topic. The main theories on motivation to learn such as the theory of attribution and socio-cognitive theory that are centered on self-efficacy, expectation of results, and self-regulation are described and discussed focusing on the expectation of success and the value of the task. Particular importance has been given to the detection of learning motivation in relation to the suffocation effect as an important motivational construct in learning outcomes, being related to personality variables, emotional intelligence, and academic success. Finally, the strategic indicators for improving academic success are discussed. Summary: This review highlights the importance of motivation to learn a task, that is associated with personality, emotional control, and emotional intelligence that helps the individual in determining useful study strategies which can lead to greater academic success.","PeriodicalId":258263,"journal":{"name":"Lubelski Rocznik Pedagogiczny","volume":"27 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-04-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129467882","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Among the competences of the future, the report Future of Skills. Employment in 2030 mentions the active acquisition of knowledge and its meaningful use including the use of learning strategies. Research Aim: The aim of this text was to compare the language learning strategies used by multilingual and bilingual learners. Method: Sixty individuals participated in our study. The adapted Language Learning Strategies Inventory (SILL) translated by E. Olejarczuk and the Cattell’s Culture Neutral Test of Fluid Intelligence (CFT-20-R) were used to control the intellectual level. Results: The obtained results prove that there are statistically significant differences between bilingual and multilingual groups in the use of language learning strategies. The level of fluid intelligence does not differentiate the groups. Conclusion: The research problem presented in this text can provide heuristics for further research in the area related to language learning and its psychological determinants.","PeriodicalId":258263,"journal":{"name":"Lubelski Rocznik Pedagogiczny","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-04-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130436670","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The growing role of the visual representation in communication processes gives rise to, e.g. questions: about the assessment of its effectiveness in comparison with the verbal message, about the chances of intercultural understanding beyond the language, as well as about the effects of language marginalization for the development of culture, in particular language culture. The text below is a voice in the discussion on the contemporary meaning of visuality and raises issues that are important especially for educators. Research Aim: The subject of consideration is to indicate various contexts related to visuality, with particular emphasis on the understanding of graphic messages in education. The aim of the undertaken research was to check the thesis whether a work of painterly art can be a plane of common meanings. In a broader perspective, we ask whether verbal and visual communication can be treated alternatively. Method: The methods used for the research are: semiotic analysis of the “open work” and discourse analysis. Results: In addition to individual semiotic analyzes of student interviews, tables of differences and similarities were developed. The semantic and discursive analyzes show the similarities and differences in the perception of images by the surveyed female students, as well as the discourses that arose in the course of visual communication through images. Conclusion: Based on the individual and semantic analysis of student interviews, it can be concluded that both the signs in the images and the meanings created by the respondents are a kind of communication carriers. Visual discourses of images become a platform on the basis of which communication and understanding between the subjects is possible.","PeriodicalId":258263,"journal":{"name":"Lubelski Rocznik Pedagogiczny","volume":"31 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-04-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133694536","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The article follows up with a discussion of the theses of the author’s own research. The article presents selected research results. Research Aim: The research aims to understand better children’s and youth’s experiences using the abecadło method and to compare results with those published in 1947 by Stefan Baley’s research team. Method: The research was proceeded by the abecadło method suggested by Stefan Baley and used by his research team in 1945 and 1947. Results: The presented results respond to three elements: words-associations most commonly recalled by children (taking differences between younger and older groups into consideration); words-associations reflecting ongoing social-cultural changes (taking differences between younger and older groups into consideration); words considered as universal and independent from the political, cultural, social and economic context and separated from the age of researched groups. Conclusion: The research show that present-day children’s experiences can be grouped and presented as four types of associations: 1) the first one is created by mass media and modern technology; 2) the second one is created by geographic names and connected with nature ones: animals, plants etc.; 3) the third one is created by words related to human and animal proper nouns; 4) the fourth one is created by universal words.
