Fifteen participants aged from 24 to 53 years old participated in the course in which they were required to attend mathematical Facebook sites involved with math history. The research findings arrived at using the grounded theory approach indicate that working with historical mathematicians and talking and discussing their work in virtual social networks, students/ teachers developed their identity in four aspects: 1 the educational aspect, 2 the cultural aspect, 3 the personality aspect, and 4 the ethnic aspect. These identity aspects were developed due to the different conditions of the learning environment, together with the actions/ interactions of the participants. Specifically, working with the history of mathematics in virtual social networks made the participants aware of 1 the advantages of integrating technology in learning and teaching, 2 the advantages of integrating history in the learning and teaching of mathematics and science, and 3 the possibility to move their culture to one that is involved more in science and mathematics. In addition, working with the history of mathematics in virtual social networks made the participants proud of their heritage and as a result they increased their self esteem.","PeriodicalId":257543,"journal":{"name":"Int. University College Dublin UCD provides its students with managed learning environments MLEs and adaptive learning via UCD Horizon which enables students to take different courses from different colleges throughout the university. The main objective of this platform is to complement the current MLEs with a single supported intelligent and personalised ubiquitous learning environment that will promote and make provisions for adaptive and collaborative learning, human computer interaction on mobile and desktop clients anywhere and anytime. The system aims to enhance the students' learning experience in third level educational environment by employing personalisation techniques such as the agent-oriented recommendation technique to engage students and help them access the content material for their studies.","PeriodicalId":257543,"journal":{"name":"Int. Therefore, one can say that electronic libraries have specific needs in terms of content, services and long-term preservation. In contrast, digital libraries suffer from several inherent constraints: storage limitation, performance, relevancy, decentralization, lack of semantic, fault tolerance, scalability. The main intention of this paper is to present a design of an integrated digital library system based on peer-to-peer data mining. This article aims also to prove that peer-to-peer mining, an emerging branch of distributed data mining, is a hot research area well suited to overcome intrinsic problems of digital libraries.","PeriodicalId":257543,"journal":{"name":"Int. They bring this expectation to their academic world where they want to work cooperatively and flexibly, using the modern information processing tools and access with which they are familiar. New hardware platforms such as e-Readers and tablet computers have made substantial inroads in the consumer market. E-Readers are becoming more prevalent in universities-replacing the need for physical textbooks, lecturing notes and other academic documents. Many universities are now running pilot programs, while some are already using e-Readers. Tablet computers, apart from their ability to read, edit or create various types of information documents, also offer additional features such as collaborative and social networking services. This empirical research project investigated student perspectives on the educational use of e-Readers and tablets within the University of Cape Town. A questionnaire was distributed to a significant portion of the student population and stratified according to seniority and faculty. Quantitative data was gathered and analysed on themes ranging from awareness to preferences to facilitating conditions around e-Readers within the academic environment. The students sent a clear signal: that they are keen to embrace these new technologies and the advantages they offer. E-Books can be updated automatically and downloaded to e-Readers instantly from almost anywhere in the world. Students feel they would benefit greatly through the use of e-Readers and many believe they are set to replace books completely. Having access to a portable library of information in their backpacks would benefit both students and the environment. However, there are a number of barriers to the comprehensive introduction of these technologies, including the cost of the devices; cost, rights and file format of e-books; the need for a critical mass of textbooks available in digital format and device characteristics such as battery life, and ubiquitous Wi-Fi access.","PeriodicalId":257543,"journal":{"name":"Int. For students this impact is changing how information is shared and tasks are performed. A digital enabled culture is resulting in changed norms on collaboration and providing more opportunities for teams to collaborate on a moment's notice. The digital ethics code of the 1980s is addressed in the current digital culture. This research will develop a measurement scale for digital ethics and assess this scale in the context using students from China.","PeriodicalId":257543,"journal":{"name":"Int. J. Manipulating technology in a way to use information correctly and realize information flow effectively has become a necessity. However, such necessity has been beclouded by variety of ethical issues that range from privacy, accuracy, accessibility to question of intellectual property rights. It is such ethical problems that this paper will address by analysing the impact of technology-mediated education on the transmission of socio-cultural and academic values. It also raises the issue of whether technology-mediated educational settings are conducive for academic freedom or do they undermine it?","PeriodicalId":257543,"journal":{"name":"Int. J. Since 2003, a national project has been carried out in Greece concerning the certification of teachers in basic computer skills. During this project 2003-2009 many teachers participated and certified through a Computer Based Assessment system CBA that has been developed by the Computer Technology Institute & Press-Diophantus. In this paper a brief view of a syllabus, b item bank, and c tools that are used for preparing and delivering examinations for teachers' certification on basic computer skills is given. Security education is becoming an integral part of any undergraduate curriculum in computer science and information systems. The evolving role of security in this digital era makes it nontrivial to decide the appropriate topics that need to be covered during the course duration in a way that all aspects of security deployment are examined. The only approach to this challenge is to use student-oriented learning strategies to encourage the students not only to recognize relationships between concepts and comprehend the underlying structure of what is being learned but also expose them to methods where they are responsible for their own independent learning. The current study examines the experiences gained in COMP-431 Computer Security, a senior-level undergraduate computer security course using such methods, with an emphasis on the students' reactions, perceptions, and experiences as well as the educator's role in the teaching and learning process.","PeriodicalId":257543,"journal":{"name":"Int.
