Historically, traditional activists have included individuals, mutual funds, and pension funds, but in recent years hedge funds have come to play an ever increasing role. This paper will review recent academic literature on the topic of shareholder activism and address the different opportunities or constraints associated with each activist group. Additionally, the tactics employed by activist hedge funds and their effectiveness in pursuing value creation strategies and changes in board governance will be reviewed. Looking forward, the paper considers the implications associated with the enormous growth of hedge funds, particularly in light of current market conditions.","PeriodicalId":256487,"journal":{"name":"ERPN: Value Creation (Sub-Topic)","volume":"50 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-03-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122484599","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Ballon","doi":"10.2139/ssrn.1331554","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.2139/ssrn.1331554","url":null,"abstract":"Purpose - This paper aims to provide a theoretically grounded framework for designing and analysing business models for (mobile) information communication technology (ICT) services and systems. Design/methodology/approach - The paper reviews the most topical literature on business modelling, as well as general strategic management, industrial economics and network economics literature, it also constructs a new integrated framework. Findings - The study finds that business model design is interpreted as the (re)configuration of control parameters on the one hand, and value parameters on the other hand within a particular innovation system. Originality/value - The paper is informed by a wide range of theories and approaches and proposes an improved and generally applicable framework.","PeriodicalId":256487,"journal":{"name":"ERPN: Value Creation (Sub-Topic)","volume":"53 8","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131438107","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
