Cui","doi":"10.1109/MWSYM.2003.1210563","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1109/MWSYM.2003.1210563","url":null,"abstract":"In this paper, a novel finite difference frequency domain (FDFD) algorithm is proposed for the analysis of substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) guided-wave problems where the perfectly matched layer (PML) has been chosen as the absorbing boundary condition and the Floquet theorem has been used to consider the periodic structure. Using the above method, the guided-wave problem is then converted to a generalized matrix eigenvalue problem and finally transformed to a standard matrix eigenvalue problem, which can be easily solved with many efficient available subroutines. Using this technique, transformers with the following performance are measured: (a) magnetic coupling with coupling factor k>0.95 and insertion loss s/sub 21/ better than 0.8 dB at 5 GHz; (b) self-resonant frequency f/sub res/>15 GHz with peak Q>10. The effect of high and low resistive substrates is discussed with measured results. The LTCC filter is designed as a lumped circuit without a cross patch. The filter is designed by lumped elements and converted to an LTCC filter. The characteristics of the filter are simulated by finite element methods (FEM). The center frequency of the filter is 6 GHz; and the bandwidth is 500 MHz. The simulated results of the filter are compared with the experimental ones and agree well. An LTCC filter, using the same design procedure, is applied to one using a cross patch. This cross patch is useful for making the attenuation poles. It works as the TEM transmission in the LTCC filter. As a result, it realizes an attenuation pole. A synthesis method for such amplifier is developed from the image-parameter filter theory. By employing the proposed bandpass amplifier in a receiver, the bulky of chip filter may not be required. An experimental chip fabricated by 0.1 /spl mu/m PHEMT shows 14.2dB gain from 20 to 40 GHz and 60-dB attenuation below 7 GHz and above 60 GHz. The frequency difference of two laser beams has been observed in the characteristic of the high-T/sub C/ Josephson junction detector. The measured response of the detector for the microwave generated by photomixing two lasers suggests that the system can work as a highly sensitive wavelength meter with accuracy of /spl plusmn/3.5 pm. It incorporates the so-call frequency-selective resonators that are composite in structure, cascading a microstrip and microstrip on a two-dimensional periodical surface or the so-called PBG (photonic bandgap) ground plane. The composite resonators add additional degrees of freedom for controlling the relative positions of the passband center frequencies. Thus making the dual-band filters, which essential share one common layout. The power amplifier is operated at a saturated output power level and its level is adjusted by DC bias control. Thus the transmitter guarantees high efficiency at all usable output power level. Due to the LINC linearization, it can operate as a linear power amplifier. The new LINC transmitter can be used as a transmitter for software defined radio (SDR), since it can efficiently amplify both the GSM type constant envelope signal and CDMA type non-constant envelope signal, and its control part is very simple and mostly embodied in the digital domain. For verification, a 1.71 GHz LINC prototype transmitter has been implemented and tested.
