Unfortunately, to facilitate this mission, the syllabus of the engineering course must be re-design to meet this requirement. Therefore, in this paper, the Practical Robotic course has been offered to the students coming from the non-engineering faculty, to be specific, the students from the Faculty of Applied Science. The teaching strategy adopts the sequential approach in delivering the subject to them. The students are introduced with the critical concept of the autonomous system before jumping into the development phase. In the development phase, they were exposed to each component, one by one, with the assistance of individual lab module to master those knowledges. Once they have completed, they are prepared to finish their autonomous mobile robot with the minimal supervision from the educator. In the end, the performance of the students is measured through the program outcomes (POs) set by the EAC to test their understanding. As a result, with this approach, all POs are achieved, with the average of 75.67 percent and the technical capabilities of the students are increased significantly.","PeriodicalId":250947,"journal":{"name":"2019 IEEE 11th International Conference on Engineering Education (ICEED)","volume":"124 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125218001","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The robotic platform is a vision-enhanced VEX robot, constructed by integrating the commercially-available VEX robot with the Raspberry PI single-board computer (plus its camera module). This project allows students to go through several key steps in a vision-based control task, including camera calibration, depth recovery, image processing, communication, and basic robot control. Vision-based control, which was once a graduate-level subject, is now exposed to undergraduate students. This project will strengthen students' understanding of relevant topics, expose them to more complex robotic systems, provide them opportunities to program and design in multi-disciplinary areas, and prepare them with a more complete set of knowledge, skills, and hands-on experience to benefit other activities they do at school and beyond. Students' feedback confirms that this project is effective in enhancing their learning. The usage of commercially-available robotic kits & components allows this project to be easily produced at other institutions.","PeriodicalId":250947,"journal":{"name":"2019 IEEE 11th International Conference on Engineering Education (ICEED)","volume":"20 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115382875","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Therefore, the author attempted to apply an alternative learning method, namely the flipped method (FL) in a web programming course. This paper exposes the evaluation result of the implementation of the flipped learning in the course. This study aims to investigate the FL method's effectiveness from the students' view and the performance of students in the class. We investigate 42 students taking the course in the winter semester of 2018. We obtained data on the students' perception through an online questionnaire. Furthermore, we determined the students' performance by comparing the class average grade and success rate of the students in a traditional learning class and a flipped learning class. The students perceive that the implementation of the FL approach in the course is effective. Moreover, the results of this implementation show the improvement in the students' performance.","PeriodicalId":250947,"journal":{"name":"2019 IEEE 11th International Conference on Engineering Education (ICEED)","volume":"104 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128048774","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

FEA course is normally offered as one of the engineering subjects. Nowadays, many softwares are available with so many features and variations of analysis when it comes to FEA. And, it has always been a challenge for educators, in finding suitable examples and tutorials to deliver the course concept. Hence, the planned project in this course is expected to familiarize the students with the various important tools and fundamental concept in understanding the subject. Truss analysis is purposely chosen to accomplish this task. Not only the structural engineering analysis concept is applied, but it will also be used in Truss Bridge Model Competition. This project is also one of the examples to show the linkage between academic knowledge and industrial needs. Thus, it is also hoped that, the skills gathered from this subject can enhance the marketability of the students upon graduation.","PeriodicalId":250947,"journal":{"name":"2019 IEEE 11th International Conference on Engineering Education (ICEED)","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126659703","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
