This paper investigates the effects of transmission channel fidelity loss in Red-Green-Blue-Depth (RGBD) sensor data. A mobile robotic platform developed for Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD) is used, with a highly constrained data and video link to a base station which computes a SLAM solution. Experiments were conducted offline, using well known data-sets with ground truth data, and their results have been compared to determine the effect of fidelity loss under various multiplexing approaches with a constrained transmission channel.","PeriodicalId":249021,"journal":{"name":"2015 International Conference on Systems, Signals and Image Processing (IWSSIP)","volume":"20 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-09-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123728330","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We contribute with a kernel-based analysis of the residual error blocks. In particular, we borrow dimension reduction techniques from machine learning, namely Principal Component Analysis (PCA) and nonlinear Kernel Principal Component Analysis (KPCA), to assess the spatial structure of block residuals. Interestingly, a nonlinear structure is observed that correlates to the rate-distortion costs of the blocks. Simulations by using a test set of videos with cropped Ultra High Definition (UHD) resolution show interesting results.","PeriodicalId":249021,"journal":{"name":"2015 International Conference on Systems, Signals and Image Processing (IWSSIP)","volume":"44 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127512266","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Color histograms in HSV space are extracted and quantized as global features, while root scale-invariant feature transform (rootSIFT) descriptors are densely extracted as local features. The extracted features are fused and reduced to obtain a lower-dimensional descriptor and discriminate the underlying variances of data. Image descriptors are encoded by the visual locally aggregated features (VLAD) approach. The Corel image dataset is used for evaluation and benchmarking. The experimental results show that the proposed descriptor improves the classification accuracy by 5% as well as the retrieval accuracy by 10% and 20% over rootSIFT and HSV, respectively. Additionally, the retrieval model outperforms many state-of-the-art approaches.","PeriodicalId":249021,"journal":{"name":"2015 International Conference on Systems, Signals and Image Processing (IWSSIP)","volume":"21 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126876467","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper are presented activities regarding documentation on a Buddhist temple. The temple Red Maitreya is strongly affected by water infiltration and improper past restoration interventions, facts that determined the 3D documentation is an urgent matter. 3D laser scanning and IR thermovision recording were made, last techniques offered information about the past consolidation and intervention on the walls. Next to these photonic techniques also microclimate monitoring was made.","PeriodicalId":249021,"journal":{"name":"2015 International Conference on Systems, Signals and Image Processing (IWSSIP)","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121387848","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The barriers of current communication will be discussed and ideas will be proposed to help improve. There are many challenges in this industry due to the extensive range of audience from the elderly to the young and the fit and healthy to extremely ill patients. Promoting a means of enhanced communication will allow the support of pharmacies to reach their full potential. We propose the development of a Prescription Tracking System that improves upon current offerings, bridging the barriers between healthcare and patient communications.","PeriodicalId":249021,"journal":{"name":"2015 International Conference on Systems, Signals and Image Processing (IWSSIP)","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115710660","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

While the chosen layered approach shows a reasonable performance, it only allows for the decoding of entire layers. This coarse grain scalability might not be suitable for applications where a precise adaption to varying channel conditions is required. A high layer modification to the decoder prediction structure is applied, which enables high quality decoding of intermediate layers in case not all pictures from the enhancement layer are decodable. Measurements show that an average BD-PSNR gain of 0.54 dB to 0.61 dB compared to conventional SHVC can be achieved. It is further shown how medium grain scalability can be realized with the scheme of key pictures, as presented in earlier work. It was shown how some high layer modifications to the prediction structure similar to the scalable extension of H.264/AVC can significantly reduce the complexity on the decoder side. Measurements reveal that the average BD-PSNR gain compared to conventional SHVC can be further increased to between 0.63 dB and 0.73 dB.","PeriodicalId":249021,"journal":{"name":"2015 International Conference on Systems, Signals and Image Processing (IWSSIP)","volume":"58 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130411485","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Investigations were performed through non-destructive spectroscopic techniques: X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF) using a handheld energy-dispersive XRF analyzer and Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FT-IR) in Attenuated Total Reflectance (ATR) geometry. Results obtained via XRF, corroborated with FTIR data, permitted a complete material characterization in terms of elemental composition and molecular structure. A series of mineral pigments were identified - green earth, azurite, cinnabar, lead white, zinc white, ochre, emerald green; as well as the presence in some of the analyzed areas of organic binders such as vegetable wax or linseed oil. Previous restoration interventions were also evidenced as identification of one pigment respect to another, or via the presence of barium sulfate that we assume as coming from a filler, barium sulfate being often used in the chemical formulation of modern painting materials.","PeriodicalId":249021,"journal":{"name":"2015 International Conference on Systems, Signals and Image Processing (IWSSIP)","volume":"41 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121684921","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, specifics of ACU caused by high impedance mismatch between air/solid interfaces set a number of limitations one of them being a requirement of two transducers in pitch-catch mode instead of a traditional single transducer in echo-mode. The goal of this paper is optimization of an ACU system geometry configuration in a specific task of single-side inspection of concrete/asphalt road pavements on the presence of subsurface delaminations. The findings provide the baseline for specification the general system setup guidelines for ACU system development under FP7 RPB HealTec project. 3D finite element modelling (FEM) is used for investigation of the impact of transducer positioning on the system's efficiency in detection of subsurface delaminations of varying depth and type. The simulation results indicated strong impact of transducer positioning on the measured response from test slabs with and without delaminations together with the significant impact of even small surface defects. Consequently, it was concluded that while ACU is sufficiently effective detection of various types of delaminations, it is highly sensitive to the surface condition and system setup.","PeriodicalId":249021,"journal":{"name":"2015 International Conference on Systems, Signals and Image Processing (IWSSIP)","volume":"39 4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115942996","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
