This research intends to identify the community activities in an effort to minimize deforestation, especially the community participation towards the forest conservation through the coffee agroforestry and the influence of community participation on the coffee agroforestry program in Tlogolele Village, Selo District. Sample of this study is Stabelan hamlet and Tlogomulyo hamlet society to amount 175 KK. Proportional Sampling was used in this study. Data collection methods in this study are Questionnaire method, observation, interviews and documentation. Data analysis techniques used were descriptive statistics and simple linear regression. Tlogolele people have not made efforts to preserve the forests of the Merapi area before the existence of the Agroforestry program. The level of community participation in each partitioning stage is low with a score of 18.8. Low community participation is caused by a long coffee harvest period, that is up to two years, so the harvest cannot be directly useful. The results of a simple linear regression analysis Y = 9.040 + 0.791 X indicate a positive relationship, meaning that the higher the community participation, the higher the success of the coffee agroforestry program. Tlogolele Village community participation is low. The number of coffee plant seeds that have not been moved into the forest is a benchmark for the lack of success of the coffee agroforestry program. This was influenced by the low participation of the Tlogomulyo Hamlet community who was not active during the program implementation. This is also followed by tremendous changes in their livelihood as a consequence of the discontinued access to various livelihood resources in their former place of residence. The paper discusses patterns of livelihood changes and mobility among the affected households through an assessment of their portfolio of livelihood assets, access and activities as well as their dynamics due to the land eviction. It is important to note that their livelihood is also determined by the financial compensation that have been disbursed since the mid of 2017. Some households have improved and sustained their livelihood with the financial compensation they received, but some may have failed to succeed with new circumstances. The paper would be concluded by an identification of the socio-economic background of the performers and non-performers in livelihood changes as well as a recognition of the most successful track of livelihood transformation. The purposes of this study are to describe and to analyze the process of cultural resistance in the implementation of resettlement program for the isolated tribe. Research was conducting in the isolated tribe at Ulubongka sub district of Tojo Una-Una district of Central Sulawesi, and the research focuses on the implementation of resettlement program. The method used in this research is qualitative research method by using ethnography approach. The result of the study showed that the implementation of the resettlement program for the isolated community in Ulubongka sub district does not pay attention to the cultural value system which is applicable to the remote village. By the program implementer, the isolated populations are treated equally with other rural communities who have understood the modern housing system. A consequence of all that, the isolated communities cannot adapt in new environments, while culturally, they are still very devout and loyal to the chief. Thus, the whole of his group follows what the instructions and the actions of the head. This paper concludes that the implementation of resettlement program for isolated tribes in Ulubongka sub district was not successful because the application did not pay attention to the culture of the community. Various policies both at the national and local levels surfaced and placed the village's socio-economic strengthening as the top priority of development. One policy that has implications for the socioeconomic dynamics of the community is the thematic kampong program in Semarang city, especially the Malon natural kampong. The purpose of this study was to find out: 1) the implementation of the Semarang natural thematic kampong program along with the problems and challenges faced: and 2) strengthening the socio-economic capacity of the community through Semarang's natural thematic kampong program. The research method used is qualitative descriptive with data retrieval techniques using observation, interviews, and documentation. Data validity uses triangulation, and data analysis is guided by interactive data analysis. The results of this study indicate that the community managed to identify the local potential that they have to develop in the thematic kampong program. The implementation of the Malon natural thematic kampong program is realized in the community resource-based Edutourism package, which combines agriculture, livestock, culinary, and the practice of making batik with natural dyes. The problems and challenges of implementing thematic kampong are also faced by the community, concerning institutional and operational aspects. Through this thematic kampong program, there has been a strengthening of community capacity regarding infrastructure aspects, economic aspects of the community, social aspects of society, social networks with relevant stakeholders, even on the attitudes of the community in facing the problems and challenges in the thematic village","PeriodicalId":247554,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the International Conference on Rural Studies in Asia (ICoRSIA 2018)","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128412359","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Plasma planters are subordinated and powerless in the face of the company. The questions is, however, whether the plasma planters are always weak position in the overall production process of the PIR model. This paper aims to describe the stages and processes of PIR estate partnerships and discuss the dynamics of power involved in the process. Actors’ perspective are used to see political action of planters in accessing economic resources. The result of this study shows that the power of plasma planters against companies has shifted, due to the change of control over the estate resources. Initially, controls of the estate were in the hands of the company and then shifted to the hands of planters. Control over estate resources makes it possible for the planters to compete in maximizing the results and some planters were able to reduce plantation pressure using a new mechanism of oil palm distribution.","PeriodicalId":247554,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the International Conference on Rural Studies in Asia (ICoRSIA 2018)","volume":"146 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116461574","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Arisan padi which is fulled by local wisdom needs to be studied more deeply, because it is basically a rural economic tradition that is closely related to village institutions, namely food security institutions for peasant families. The study was carried out using historical methods to analyze the changing meaning of arisan. Meanwhile, to explore the values of local wisdom from the arisan is carried out using an anthropological approach. In the beginning, arisan padi of the rural community was social in nature, where arisan built by the farmer and peasant was aimed at the food security of the peasant. Today, the idea of arisan padi is no longer social, but changes to become more economic. Arisan padi is no longer just for consumption purposes, but now it tends to change for economic and production. This change needs to be studied because rural communities have changed their economic behavior patterns, especially in understanding arisan padi. Keywords—Arisan padi, rural community, life strategy.","PeriodicalId":247554,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the International Conference on Rural Studies in Asia (ICoRSIA 2018)","volume":"112 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114865050","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The analysis technique that is used in this research is divided into two parts, which the first, is the policy impact analysis of the changes of the numbers of working days, and the income of respondents, before and after the grant is given; the second is performance-group analysis. The result shows that implementation of minapolitan region development has given positive impact to the economic growth of the fishermen. This can be known by the fact that there is an increase of fishermen’s working days up tp 50,4%, increase of employment rate, and also the increase of fishermen’s income up to 76% (equal to Rp 896.550). Based on the performance analysis of the fishermen’s group, some indicators that needs to be improved are: administrations of operational charges and productions fee, and the continuations of economic activities, and the applications of trainings and knowledge. To improve the development of minapolitan region in the future, government supports in providing the complementary industry for fishery activities is needed, especially the ones which provides fisheries seeds and foods.
