The combination of the holographic antenna principle with the phased array technology allows a beam steering functionality in two dimensions. The presented holographic antenna belongs to the leaky-wave antennas and can be described by Floquet's theorem. After a review about the theoretical aspects of holographic antennas, the paper focuses on possibilities to improve the beam scanning range. The antennas are placed side by side. However transmitted pulse from transmitting antenna is directly received by the receiving antenna. Therefore, if the radar and the target are close, transmitted pulse and wave which reflected from the target are observed to overlap each other and artificial image occurs. On the other hand, EBG (Electromagnetic Band-Gap) structure that is one of metamaterial reduces the electromagnetic coupling in specific frequency. The antenna is fed by a single microstrip line place beneath the substrate. The circular polarized pattern has been achieved through the perturbation of the ring slots and proper optimization of the asymmetry stubs and the slotted ground plane. It is also show that an array of nano-sinusoids provides more enhancement at hot spots in comparison to other examined nano-particle shapes. This enhancement is analytically quantified using the coupling constant values used in the electrostatic eigenmode method for analytically solving Maxwell's equations for the nano-plasmonic devices. The integration of a two antenna MIMO system for usage in worldwide LTE networks into a conventional automotive roof top antenna is discussed. In-situ antenna measurement results of the final LTE MIMO configuration are shown. It was recognized very early on, by researchers such as Chu, Harrington and their contemporaries, that there are some fundamental limits of realizable gain, bandwidth and efficiency of small antennas that are determined by the size of the sphere within which the antenna can be embedded, and that these limits cannot be overcome by using different materials or geometrical configurations of the antenna so long as it remained confined within the given sphere. Small antennas which attempted to “fill” the space within the sphere to reach the Chu-Harrington limit were designed by many workers, one of the principals among them being Best [1, 2]. The proposed antenna has not only very compact structures and low profile, but also enhanced impedance bandwidths of over 300 MHz for the disk loaded monopole and 155 MHz for the notch array. This paper presents the gain enhancement technique for UWB antennas. Two reference UWB antennas are considered and their gain has been increased by 2.4dB using parasitic patch in stacked arrangement. The band notch UWB antenna has also been shown to show this increase in gain in the pass band. In order to have a good MIMO performance, low coupling loss and low correlation between antennas are considered. Currently, main antenna usually situates at the bottom of the phone because of Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) requirement, whereas sub antenna locates at the top of the phone providing better spatial diversity. In this paper, feasible implementations of scatterers on both non-metallic and metallic chassis phones are provided. Experimental results show that the Envelope Correlation Coefficients (ECC) can be reduced from 0.7 to 0.2 at 750 MHz after inserting scatterers.
