Multi-objective optimal power flow (OPF) with FACTS devices including TTC, power losses, and penalty functions is used to evaluate the feasible maximum TTC value and minimum power loss within real and reactive power generation limits, thermal limits, voltage limits, stability limits, and FACTS devices operation limits. Test results on the modified IEEE 30-bus system indicate that optimally placed OPF with FACTS by the HEA approach could enhance TTC far more than those from evolutionary programming (EP), tabu search (TS), hybrid tabu search and simulated annealing (TS/SA), and improved evolutionary programming (IEP) algorithms, leading to much efficient utilization of the existing transmission systems.","PeriodicalId":246250,"journal":{"name":"Int. This facility becomes impossible to run due to the inability of the public utility to provide steady, reliable and efficient power. A 250KVA generating set was denoted by the school Administration and latter installed for this facility. After the installation, the facility cut off from public utility and depends wholly on Diesel generator. From experience with the performance of the existing generating sets as regards emissions and operating costs due to high cost of maintenance and diesel, a hybrid system (Diesel-Solar PV) was proposed. This paper investigates and analyzes the economic and environmental benefits of the proposed project to existing diesel generator. From the analyses, the proposed system (solar PV-diesel) has less total net present cost and less emission as a result of less fuel consumption and higher efficiency operation of the diesel genset when compared to the existing system (diesel only).","PeriodicalId":246250,"journal":{"name":"Int. This distribution problem seems to suffer from a lack of published work even though it has immense practical applicability especially within logistic systems. Some enhancements to the basic ant system algorithm are embedded into the search. In particular a focus is on the choice in the placement of ants, the use of site-dependent candidate list, the introduction of a look ahead-based visibility, and appropriate strategies for updating local and global trails. Encouraging computational results are reported when tested on benchmark data sets.","PeriodicalId":246250,"journal":{"name":"Int. J. Energy Optim. The mathematical analysis is based on the application of real valued cultural algorithm (RVCA). The RVCA-evaluated total annual cost for power delivery networks has been obtained utilizing both solar and fuel cells as DERs along with a battery energy storage system. The analyses for optimal power operation pertaining to minimum cost have been made by considering two cases in Indian power delivery system. The first case deals with the consumers’ individual optimal operation of DERs, while in the second one, the consumers form a microgrid with the optimal supply of power from DERs. The total annual costs for these two cases are found to be economically competitive and encouraging in the context of supplying reliable power to a small locality. A reduction of approximately 4.3% in the annual cost has been obtained in the case of microgid system than that in the separately operating consumers’ system for a small locality of India. It is observed that the application of RVCA in power optimization results in a reduction of total cost depicting an improved outcome in terms of energy economy.","PeriodicalId":246250,"journal":{"name":"Int. The authors purpose is to retune the power system stabilizer (PSS1A) parameters in Unitrol D produced by ABB– was installed in 1995 in Benghazi North Power Plants (BNPPs) at General Electricity Company of Libya (GECOL). Power systems are steadily growing with larger capacity, so the optimal values of the power system stabilizer (PSS1A) parameters should be retuned. A particle swarm optimization technique (PSO) is used to determine the parameters of the PSS off-line. The objective is to damp the local and inter-area modes of oscillations that occur following power system disturbances. The retuned power system stabilizer (PSS1A) can cope with large disturbance at different operating points and has an enhanced power system stability, The MATLAB package with SIMULINK is used for the design and simulations.","PeriodicalId":246250,"journal":{"name":"Int. With time, these workhorses are susceptible to faults, some are incipient and some are major. Such fault can be catastrophic, if unattended and may develop serious problems that may lead to shutdown to the machine causing production and financial losses. To avoid such breakdown, an early stage prognosis can help in preparing the maintenance schedule, which will lead to an improve life span. Scientist and engineers worked with different scheme to diagnose the machine faults. The authors diagnose the turn-to-turn faults condition of the stator through symmetrical component analysis. The results of the analysis are also verified through Power Decomposition Technique (PDT) in Matlab /SIMULINK. The results are compatible with the published results for known faults.","PeriodicalId":246250,"journal":{"name":"Int. J. Energy Optim. A sample of Greek hotels has been selected, and their energy performance is elaborated. The results from the use of the model Long Range Energy Alternative Planning are presented, providing the reduction in energy consumption. In addition, a set of interviews was conducted in the hoteliers in order to understand their views in implementing energy measures in their facilities. The results of both analyses are in detail elaborated, pointing out the significance in combining both type of information in order to improve buildings’ energy performance. As a concluding remark a theoretical model has been developed in order to show the necessity of considering both types of data for optimizing buildings’ energy performance.","PeriodicalId":246250,"journal":{"name":"Int. The proposed methodology determines control variable settings such as generator terminal voltages, tap positions of the regulating transformer and the Var injection of the shunts compensator, for real power loss minimization in the transmission system. The algorithm’s performance is studied with comparisons of canonical genetic algorithm (CGA), five versions of particle swarm optimization (PSO), local search based self-adaptive differential evolution (L-SADE), seeker optimization algorithm (SOA), biogeography based optimization (BBO) on the IEEE 30-bus and IEEE 57-bus power systems. The simulation results show that the proposed QOBBO approach performed better than the other listed algorithms and can be efficiently used for the ORPD problem.","PeriodicalId":246250,"journal":{"name":"Int. Due to these changes, it may be difficult to model and forecast the oil consumption with traditional methods such as regression. Artificial Neural Networks (ANNs) are the strong rival of regression and time series in forecasting. ANNs provide good accuracy along with more reliable and precise forecasting for policy makers, in this regard, ANNs can establish the foundation for oil consumption management by providing good model results. This paper tries to unfold the oil consumption forecasting in Turkey using ANN through some predetermined inputs, which is data for population, GDP, import and export of Turkey from 1965 to 2010, with the aim of finding the essential structure of the data to forecast future oil consumption in Turkey with less error.","PeriodicalId":246250,"journal":{"name":"Int.
