A viable solution to meet energy needs and expansion of systems is the Distributed Generation - DG. Single source of DG does not guarantee economic generation, reliability, flexibility and controllability in energy markets. This paper presents a methodology considering DG as an advantageous alternative in the energy markets and technical and economic benefits to distribution systems. It is proposed that the aggregation of sources in Central DG “Virtual” Power, making them economically competitive within the markets for electricity. The control and supervision of this plant will be conducted by the Operation Center of the concessionaires. The tool is a complement to programs for expansion of distribution systems.","PeriodicalId":222318,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE/PES Transmission and Distribution Conference and Exposition: Latin America (T&D-LA)","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121122315","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, there is still no certainty about the impact that really has the loads models. This paper aims to show the effect of load model on the fault location in distribution systems, taking a circuital analysis based fault locator and change the model from constant impedance load to constant current load and constant power load. From the work done is concluded that depending on the characteristics of the distribution system, the performance of fault locators may improve or worsen. In particular, for the test circuits that were used, the constant current type locator improves the estimation of the location of the fault when there are laterals on the system.","PeriodicalId":222318,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE/PES Transmission and Distribution Conference and Exposition: Latin America (T&D-LA)","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121164350","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The first one is a detailed model whereas the second one is a simplified network model. The use of a Laplacian Pyramid scheme allows greater flexibility to select the decimation factors and the non-decimated channel model properly reproduces the response in the high-frequency band. Both features, contribute to overcome some limitations that former proposals, based on multirate processing, have experienced. The accuracy and the advantages of the herein proposed model are validated through simulations in a real case.","PeriodicalId":222318,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE/PES Transmission and Distribution Conference and Exposition: Latin America (T&D-LA)","volume":"328 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121675523","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The simulations were carried out on Alternative Transient Program (ATP) and directed by a Matlab® program. The used HIF model employs two series time-varying resistances controlled by the Transient Analysis of Control Systems (TACS). Actual data obtained by several staged HIFs in different soil types on a distribution system were used to adjust the model. The variables chosen for the different fault schemes were contact surface, fault inception angle, fault location, and load condition. The database is composed by oscillographic data in IEEE-COMTRADE format.","PeriodicalId":222318,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE/PES Transmission and Distribution Conference and Exposition: Latin America (T&D-LA)","volume":"194 3-4","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114027205","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Protection scheme for distribution system, primarily consisting of fuses and reclosures and, in some cases, relays, has traditionally been designed assuming the system to be radial. In last year extra attention applied in use of distributed generator units in distribution networks. The integration of distributed sources into existing networks brings up several technical, economical and regulatory questions. The connection of distributed generators (DG) to distribution networks also influences the performance of the networks and the impact depends on the number, location and size of injected DG. The presence of distributed generators in the distribution network can cause the mis-coordination of the protection system. In order to overcome this problem, one can change the relay setting based on the number and location of DGs in the network. In this paper, another approach is selected in which, the capacity of DG at each node is determined in such a way, that the mis-coordination does not happen. The proposed method is explained in two cases. In the first case, just one DG at each node is considered, but in the second case existence of two or more DGs in separate nodes is taken into account. The simulation result are presented and discussed in a typical distribution network.","PeriodicalId":222318,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE/PES Transmission and Distribution Conference and Exposition: Latin America (T&D-LA)","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126999461","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In order to achieve high computational efficiency this approach uses both an efficient method for probabilistic analysis and a radial power flow. The probabilistic approach used is the well-known Two-Point Estimate Method. Meanwhile, the compensation-based radial power flow is used in order to extract benefits from the topological characteristics of the distribution systems. The generation model proposed allows modeling either PQ or PV bus on the connection point between the network and the distributed generator. In addition allows control of the generator operating conditions, such as the field current and the power delivery at terminals. Results on test with IEEE 37 bus system is given to illustrate the operation and effectiveness of the proposed approach. A Monte Carlo Simulations method is used to validate the results.","PeriodicalId":222318,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE/PES Transmission and Distribution Conference and Exposition: Latin America (T&D-LA)","volume":"2015 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128042827","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In addition, there have been introduced new technologies of non-linear control, with applied methodologies of feedback linearization, where all the system is transformed to a linear system. Nevertheless, the decentralized scheme is not possible because all the information of the entire system is required when that transformation is done. That is why it must be developed a controller that maintains the decentralization at the same time as the robustness. The procedure detailed in this paper consists of the utilization of reduced dynamical models computed at each FACTS device useful for the computation of supplementary controls. So, a decentralized model is done from a linear model, where there are the local controls for each device and a central control that gives the reference. The paper also describes the methodology used for computing optimal LQG/LTR decentralized controls for FACTS and, previously, it is outlined the problem to locate the FACTS devices and know its dimensions.","PeriodicalId":222318,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE/PES Transmission and Distribution Conference and Exposition: Latin America (T&D-LA)","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115907636","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The problem is solved using a real genetic algorithm (RGA). For each topology proposed by RGA an indicator is employed to identify the weak buses for new reactive power sources allocation. The fitness function is calculated using the cost of each configuration as well as constraints deviation of an AC optimal power flow (OPF) in which the minimum reactive generation of new reactive sources and the active power losses are objectives. With allocation of reactive power sources at load buses, the circuit capacity increases and the cost of installation could be decreased. The method is tested in a well known test system, presenting good results when compared with other approaches.","PeriodicalId":222318,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE/PES Transmission and Distribution Conference and Exposition: Latin America (T&D-LA)","volume":"42 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124936833","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
