The data collected originate fromthe Malay language corpus, which was developed by the researcher by usingAntconc 3.4.3w. The corpus was developed based on six Malay-languagenovels with narratives based on Sabah tribes. Of 145 lexis of the triballanguage identified alongside the Malay language in the corpus data, one ofthe lexis, singkowoton, was chosen for analysis. The analysis was conductedwith reference to the frame semantics coined by Charles Fillmore (1982). Theinitial results of the study show that the linguistics theoretical approach,specifically the semantic cognitive approach, observes the use of lexis semanticof the tribal languages within the corpus of the Malay language. {"title":"KAFFAH DAN REMAJA DALAM NOVEL SESEGAR NAILOFAR DAN RONA BOSPHORUS","authors":"S. However, most of the youth who areconsidered as the nation strength are still bounded by social problems. Thereare a lot of criminal cases involving them including gangsterism, promiscuity,baby dumping and drug abuse. Due to these problems, youth need a model toshape a better personality. This study examines novels by Zaid Akhtar, namelySesegar Nailofar (2000) and Rona Bhosphorus (2002) to review theirinsights into social ills. The analyses focus on issues of character among Muslimyouth through the novels’ characters as a means to create positive role models forthe youth. The research framework uses Prophetic Ideas by Kuntowijoyo, inspiredby the spirit of relationship between Malaysia and Indonesia after a long timeof following in a Western mould. The idea is derived from Surah Ali ‘Imran,verse 110, which outlines three ethical concept as its main pillars: amar makruf(enjoin what is right, humanization), nahi mungkar (forbid the wrong,liberalisation), and tu’minunabullah (believe in Allah, transcendence). As awhole, these three form the concept of kaffah, which means ‘comprehensive’ or‘integrated.’ Through analyses of the two aforementioned Zaid Akhtar novels,this study identifies elements of Kuntowijoyo’s Prophetic Ideas, and connectsthem to the concept of kaffah. The novels discuss youth and their philosophy ofjihad regarding education and the fight against enemies of Islam. The novels “Penyeberang Sempadan”(2012) by Anuar Ridhwan, and “Kafka On The Shore” (2005) by HarukiMurakami, contain psychological elements which can answer and comparehypotheses regarding men’s emotional problems. This study is based on theemotional forms categorized by Daniel Goleman in Emotional IntelligenceTheory (1995) including anger, sadness, fear, pleasure, love, surprise, hateand shame. The dominant emotional forms are conveyed through the novels’male protagonists. The comparison of dominant emotional expressions betweenmale protagonists is based on textual content found in both novels. The data in the form of Arabic loanwordswere derived from the text books of Islamic Education Primary School, Years 1to 6 (KSSR). Arabic loanwords were analyzed according to the method ofMalay word formation (consonant-vowel pattern) by Nik Safiah Karim(2015). In analyzing the Jawi data, the Malay-Jawi-Rumi Glossary (DKBM)was used as a basic reference and guidance for Jawi spelling. The findingsindicate that there is diversity in the pattern of vowel-consonant combinationof Arabic loanwords in the Malay language.
