It inhabits mainly terrestrial habitats, and little is known about its specific diet. Herein, we report an observation of ophiophagy in M. distans on a Leptodeira septentrionalis and possible arboreal behavior of the species. We also comment on the distribution of L. septentrionalis and argue for its inclusion in the herpetofaunal lists of Sinaloa, despite having been recorded in previous years and excluded in a recent listing. In addition, we verify the presence of the species in the municipality of Cosalá based on citizen science records. Finally, we conclude that these observations support the idea that M. distans is an opportunistic predator of other snakes and adaptable to environmental circumstances.","PeriodicalId":219182,"journal":{"name":"Revista Latinoamericana de Herpetología","volume":"35 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135364585","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

El objetivo de este estudio fue conocer las características del hábitat que intervienen en la distribución de los cocodrilos en la zona norte de la Reserva de la Biósfera Sian Ka’an (RBSK). En el mes de julio a septiembre de 2018, realizamos 18 muestreos con un equipo de tres personas, con un esfuerzo total de muestreo de 120 horas y 349 km recorridos los cuales se navegaron con una embarcación al margen de las lagunas. En ambas lagunas (Muyil y Chunyaxché) se obtuvieron en total 63 registros de Crocodylus moreletii. En ambas lagunas se registraron nueve hábitats: Manglar, Zacatal, Vegetación acuática, Tasistal, Carrizal, Tular, Manglar/Tasistal, Manglar/Tular y Manglar/Palmar. El Análisis de Componentes Principales mostró que Rhizophora mangle y Cladium jamaicense tienen importancia en la preferencia de hábitat con relación a las categorías de talla de los cocodrilos. Las crías, subadultos y adultos presentan una mayor frecuencia de distribución y preferencia en el hábitat de Manglar. Por otra parte, los jóvenes registraron una distribución predominante en el hábitat de Zacatal. Se debe hacer énfasis en la relevancia de las especies mangle rojo y el zacatal como características indispensables del hábitat que determinan la distribución y preferencia del cocodrilo de pantano en la zona norte de la RBSK.","PeriodicalId":219182,"journal":{"name":"Revista Latinoamericana de Herpetología","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135619321","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, two species of these genera (T. quadrilineatus and S. duseni) have more limited distributions, being endemic to the Cerrado savanna. Giant armadillos build burrows that are used by a variety of species. In this study, we describe observations of interactions of four teiid species with giant armadillo burrows, report new distribution records of T. quadrilineatus and S. duseni within the Cerrado, and provide insights into the habitat requirements of these species. Our results highlight the importance of preserving threatened species to maintain ecological interactions and emphasize the need to protect the Cerrado savanna.","PeriodicalId":219182,"journal":{"name":"Revista Latinoamericana de Herpetología","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"136338482","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

S. lasallei is a small snake with disperse records on both slopes of the Cordillera Oriental in Colombia and recently has been found in the Cordillera Central. During a herpetology survey conducted in the western slope of the Cordillera Oriental, department of Huila, Colombia, I found an individual of S. lasallei inside a rotten log and the individual was preserved. This record fills a geographic gap of 401 km in the distribution of the species along the western slope of the aforementioned Cordillera. According to this report this species might be distributed along the entire extension of the Cordillera Oriental and Central but has not been extensively reported because it cryptic habits. Moreover, this report contributes to a better comprehension on the distribution of one little known snake.","PeriodicalId":219182,"journal":{"name":"Revista Latinoamericana de Herpetología","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135164939","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
