Methods from October 2020 to March 2021, 134 patients with AIS and 34 healthy individuals were enrolled. Serum PTHrP concentration was measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) and subgroup analysis was performed according to Trial of Org 10 172 in acute stroke treatment (TOAST) classification. The severity of AIS was assessed by the National Institutes of Health stroke scale (NIHSS) score and the volume of cerebral infarction was assessed based on head magnetic resonance imaging. The correlation of serum PTHrP concentration with various indicators was analyzed. The 90-day functional prognosis of patients was assessed by the modified Rankin scale. Patients were divided into favorable outcomes group and unfavorable outcomes group and the difference in serum PTHrP concentration between the two groups was compared. Whether serum PTHrP was associated with AIS prognosis was analyzed by Logistic regression.Results The serum PTHrP concentration in AIS group was higher than that in the control group (P=0.000), and the serum PTHrP concentrations of the three common etiological subtypes, LAA, CE and SAO, were higher than those in the control group (all P<0.01). The AUC for distinguishing AIS patients and healthy control by serum PTHrP concentration was 0.751(P<0.0001). The serum PTHrP concentration in the AIS group was associated with the cumulative smoking volume (r=0.201, P=0.021) and APTT (r=-0.188, p=0.034). Serum PTHrP was not associated with TOAST classification (P=0.091), NIHSS score and cerebral infarction volume (all P>0.05), and there was no significant difference in serum PTHrP concentration between the favorable outcomes group and unfavorable outcomes group (P> 0.05). Univariate logistic regression showed that serum PTHrP concentration was not a prognostic factor of AIS [OR=1.000 95% CI (0.999, 1.002) P=0.678]. Conclusion Serum PTHrP concentration was significantly increased in AIS patients. Serum PTHrP might be ancillary for early identification of AIS. Serum PTHrP concentration correlated with cumulative smoking volume and APTT in AIS patients, and could possibly be used to assess the true smoking volume of patients and analyze coagulation function. However, serum PTHrP concentration was not associated with TOAST classification, NIHSS score, cerebral infarction volume and 90-day prognosis, which meant it cannot be used to evaluated the etiology, severity and prognosis of AIS patients.","PeriodicalId":182292,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Biology and Life Sciences","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-03-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127956426","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this study, the antioxidant and anti-tumor activities of Ophiopogon japonicus polysaccharides (OJP) in vitro and in vivo were investigated. The results showed that OJP had obvious scavenging ability on hydroxyl radical and superoxide radical in a dose-dependent manner. Moreover, the reducing power of OJP also increased and appeared to be dose-dependent. In vivo, it reduced the accumulation of lipofuscin and induced cell apoptosis of Caenorhabditis elegans. In addition, it significantly inhibits the viability of esophageal cancer cell lines Eca109 and TE-1 in vitro and promoted their apoptosis. In conclusion, OJP avoids oxidative damage of organisms and plays an anti-tumor role via its antioxidation. This study aims to promote the in-depth study of plant polysaccharides and provide theoretical reference for the development of antioxidant foods and anti-tumor drugs.","PeriodicalId":182292,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Biology and Life Sciences","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-03-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115138239","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Tian, Long Bo, Xiong Mi, Yuhan Dong, Youdong Wei","doi":"10.54097/ijbls.v2i2.6144","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.54097/ijbls.v2i2.6144","url":null,"abstract":"Background: Parkinson’s disease (PD) is the second most common neurodegenerative disease. Evidence has shown that phosphorylated tau-181 (p-tau181) is involved in the pathological process of PD. The goal of this study was to investigate the changes of serum phosphorylated Microtubule-associated protein tau at threonine-181 in patients with Parkinson's disease and it's correlation with disease severity, cognitive impairment and prognosis. Methods: A total of 40 patients with primary Parkinson's disease who were hospitalized or outpatient in the First Affiliated Hospital of Chongqing Medical University from July 2021 to February 2022 were selected as the study subjects. Patients with secondary Parkinson's disease, Parkinson's syndrome, stroke, Alzheimer's disease, craniocerebral surgery or trauma, severe systemic or infectious diseases, local or systemic infectious diseases, motor neurone disease or other central nervous system diseases were excluded. In addition, 35 healthy subjects with similar age and gender matching were selected as the healthy control group. Age, gender, course of disease, Hoehn-Yahr (H-Y) scale, Unified Parkinson's Disease Scale (UPDRS), and MoCA score were recorded in the Parkinson's disease group. According to the H-Y scale, PD group was divided into PD patients in the advanced stage (H-Y≤2.5, n=16) and PD patients in the advanced stage (H-Y>2.5, n=24). Six months after blood sample collection, we assessed the H-Y rating and UPDRS score in the Parkinson's group again by telephone follow-up. Those with decreased or unchanged H-Y rating or total UPDRS score were divided into good prognosis group (n=25), and those with increased H-Y rating or total UPDRS score were divided into poor prognosis group (n=14). The serum p-tau181 concentration of all subjects was detected and compared by double-antibody sandwich enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), and the correlation between serum p-tau181 level and UPDRS score, MoCA score and prognosis of Parkinson's disease patients was analyzed. Results: Compared with HC, serum p-tau181 concentration in PD patients were higher, but not statistically significant (1.01[0.28-2.63]vs 0.53[0.04-3.72]ug/mL, P=0.55, P>0.05). There was no significant difference in p-tau181 concentration between PD patients in early stage and PD patients in advanced stage (P=0.80 P>0.05), and no significant difference in p-tau181 level between PD patients with cognitive impairment, PD patients with normal cognition and HC patients (P=0.63, p>0.05). P-tau181 was not significantly correlated with disease duration (r=-0.14, P=0.37, P>0.05), UPDRS score (r=0.02, P=0.89, P>0.05), and MoCA score (r= 0.16, P=0.32, P > 0.05). There was no significant difference in serum P-tau181 expression between good prognosis group and poor prognosis group (P=0.74, P > 0.05). Conclusions: Serum expression of p-tau181 increased in PD patients, but no statistical difference was observed, and no clear correlation was found between p-tau18","PeriodicalId":182292,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Biology and Life Sciences","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-03-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130878057","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
