To accurately model the satisfaction of a user to its service, we propose a new concept of the utility function, which is called a user-level utility junction, considering both transmitting and receiving sessions of a user together. We then formulate an optimization problem for rate control with user-level utility functions and develop a distributed rate control algorithm.","PeriodicalId":172400,"journal":{"name":"2010 7th IEEE Consumer Communications and Networking Conference","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-01-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115252597","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

While this explosion of innovation provides compelling new devices to consumers, there are challenges ensuring compatibility among these devices and providing a comprehensive user interface that supports consumers managing their digital content across several devices. The Digital Living Network Alliance (DLNA) has specified an architecture that enables interoperability between the various devices and allows a user to enjoy the desired content across several devices. To complement DLNA, we investigate ontological representation from semantic web technology to model the interaction between multiple home devices and to provide an enriched and more comprehensive metadata based multimedia search. This removes the user burden of searching each device individually. Development of a prototype incorporating these ideas has begun, using a well known semantic web toolkit Jena.","PeriodicalId":172400,"journal":{"name":"2010 7th IEEE Consumer Communications and Networking Conference","volume":"27 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-01-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121695125","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Inter-cell interference coordination (ICIC) is considered to improve coverage and increase data rate at cell edge. The current consensus of ICIC scheme is towards semi-static soft frequency reuse (SFR). Due to the limitation of resource configuration way for semi-statci SFR, problems will be met when applying the traditional admission control strategy to semi-static SFR deployment. In this paper, we have investigated the joint design of SFR and the corresponding call admission control strategy. A scheme is proposed which affords a new resource configuration strategy for SFR and an admission control algorithm which takes full account of the frequency planning of SFR and makes coordination among different cell zones or neighboring cells. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme can achieve good perfonnance in tenns of blocking probability, handover outage and resource utilization.","PeriodicalId":172400,"journal":{"name":"2010 7th IEEE Consumer Communications and Networking Conference","volume":"57 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-01-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121730631","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Topology awareness is an important metric for ALM because it reduces link stress and delay stretch considerably. This work describes a novel, stable and low overhead ALM approach using binning technique to cluster nearby receivers, referred to as Bincast. Bincast uses a constant number of landmarks to cluster nearby nodes. It then constructs a k-ary tree between cluster members. The most stable node is selected as the local header in each cluster. It monitors cluster membership events and decides to split or merge the cluster if necessary. Detailed performance evaluation revealed that Bincast has lower delay stretch than similar methods with approximately same stress.","PeriodicalId":172400,"journal":{"name":"2010 7th IEEE Consumer Communications and Networking Conference","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-01-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131197861","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

STAMP builds a weighted and oriented graph from an email database, an email log or just a simple email header allowing a post-analysis of the SMTP overlay structure and the identification of the paths used by an email. The objective of this tool is twofold. STAMP allows to automatically perform an analysis of the SMTP topology for debugging (e.g, message delay, emails loop,...) and for metrology purposes. While several tracerou te-Iike measurements projects try to map the Internet, to the best of our knowledge, no tool allows to drive an analysis of the SMTP overlay network. Thus, the goal of the resulting graph is to develop methods (from graph theory, statistical analysis,...) to identify relaying problems. We aim to explore the impact of IP network problems over emails delivery (and respectively: emails' traffic over IP networks) in conjunction with IP measurements driven synchronously. In the present paper, we introduce the design and the measurement methodology of the STAMP software and as second contribution, bring out to the networking community the tool and some measurements databases.","PeriodicalId":172400,"journal":{"name":"2010 7th IEEE Consumer Communications and Networking Conference","volume":"33 5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-01-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131401493","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We analyze performance from the mobile phone perspective. This angle brings battery consumption and efficient use of the limited resources of the mobile devices to the focus. We develop an analytical model of Kademlia DHT performance and use it to analyze a number of different strategies to use peer-to-peer SIP with mobile devices. These analyses include studying a model where all devices participate in the DHT and contrasting that with a model where only a subset of devices forms the DHT. Our analysis shows that in a one million user P2PSIP network, at least 30% of the mobile nodes should participate in operating the DHT to remain energy-efficient.","PeriodicalId":172400,"journal":{"name":"2010 7th IEEE Consumer Communications and Networking Conference","volume":"99 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-01-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132544446","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We developed a novel Point-to-Multipoint (P2MP) Gigabit WLAN System on 60 GHz millimeter wave. The proposed system employed wide angle beams antenna overcomes the usability of the conventional system, covers larger areas. Maximum transmission rate was designed to be 1.2 Gigabit/sec. Orthogonal frequency division multiplex (OFDM) using 1024 points FFT and convolutional code were implemented with PHY layer of the WLAN equipments. Superframe for multiple beams and frame aggregation for high throughput were designed for MAC layer. All control channels for downlink such as broadcast, frame control and access feedback were aggregated to reduce overhead in addition to aggregation of data frame. The PMIPv6 copes with the disadvantages of client-based mobility technology by utilizing network-based mobility technology in which the handover function of a mobile node (MN) is replaced by a router. However, the PMIPv6 has the critical problem that inter-cell handover is not supported. In order to support Ithe inter-cell handover in the PMIPv6, an all neighbor multicast (ANM) scheme has been proposed. Meanwhile, the ANM scheme wastes resources for sending multicast messages because the multicast messages are not sent only to handover-occurring-cells but also other neighbor cells. In this paper, a network router recognizes the MN newly entered at the boundary of the cell. We propose an intelligent multicast configuration (IMC) scheme for the inter-cell handover. Using the proposed scheme, the consumption of resources and the whole load of networks are reduced by up to 64% compared to the ANM scheme.","PeriodicalId":172400,"journal":{"name":"2010 7th IEEE Consumer Communications and Networking Conference","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-01-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133687160","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
