Trichobezoars are usually located in the stomach, but may extend through the pylorus into the duodenum and small bowel (Rapunzel syndrome). This entity is usually associated with trichotillomania and trichophagia or other psychiatric disorders. It is generally observed in children and young females with psychological disorders. Untreated cases may lead to grave complications. We present our experience with five patients and provide a review of the recent literature. Material and Methods: We retrospectively analysed the clinical data of five patients treated for trichobezoar in pediatric surgery department during 4-year-period between 2018 and 2022. Their medical charts were reviewed with respect to symptoms, diagnostic procedures including any Imaging (abdominal ultrasonography and abdominal computed tomography) or upper GI endoscopy and treatment.","PeriodicalId":16362,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Medical Science And clinical Research","volume":"21 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139348237","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Currently, STE is being embraced and increasingly adopted in numerous echocardiographic laboratories worldwide. In context with contemporary non invasive cardiovascular procedures, 2Dimensional STE is most sought-after method to evaluate LV strain, rotation, twist and torsion. Two dimensional (2D), three dimensional (3D) and 4Dimensional (4D) deformation assessment by STE is inherently associated with certain limitations. For better appraisal of LV contractile properties recently introduced updated version of 4D XStrain STE has been employed to analyse the various complex multidimensional LV mechanics. This novel technology is a reliable, affordable and a simple tool for estimation of regional and global myocardial function. Furthermore, 4D XStrain STE can accurately quantify the 4D LV ejection-fraction, end-diastolic and end-systolic volumes and sphericity index (SI). However, this distinctive technology has not been widely adopted and its assessment is still limited to research applications. Hence we aimed to familiarize this innovative technology by comprehensively addressing its technique, advantages and limitations, with the intent that it may serve a more meaningful purpose in the current volatile scenario of cardio-vascular disease. Keywords: 4Dimensional XStrain Echocardiography, LV strain, LV rotation, LVtwist, LV untwist, LV torsion.","PeriodicalId":16362,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Medical Science And clinical Research","volume":"22 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139348334","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Prostate cancer is the leading cause of cancer death among men in Nigeria and second most common cancers of men worldwide and sexual history has been a consistent risk factor. Prostate specific antigen (PSA) test is still the single most important test for early detection of prostate cancer worldwide. However, not much is reported about prostate cancer in relation to urinary tract infections in Africa. This study investigates the prevalence of prostate cancer risk in and bacterial urinary tract infections among men in Abuja, Nigeria. One Hundred (100) samples each of blood and urine were collected, from fifty (50) male patients suffering from urinary tract infections and fifty (50) apparently healthy males attending Kuje General Hospital Abuja, Nigeria. All the blood samples were subjected to PSA analysis using Enzyme-linked Immunosorbent Assay procedure (Diagnostic Automation/ Cortez Diagnostics, Inc, USA) while urine analysis (microscopy, culture and biochemical identification) was performed on the urine to isolate and identify the common bacteria associated with urinary tract infections among the study population.","PeriodicalId":16362,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Medical Science And clinical Research","volume":"27 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-07-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139353793","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Aim: The main purpose of the study was to measure serum calcium and magnesium in postmenopausal women and to compare with that in pre-menopausal women. Methods: Serum calcium and magnesium were estimated in 30 postmenopausal women and 30 premenopausal women, who were selected following inclusion and exclusion criteria. Statistical analysis was done by using Graph pad Quickcalcs calculator. Student's unpaired t test was done to compare between both groups and p-value was determined to know the statistical significance. Results: Postmenopausal women were found to have lower serum calcium (8.659±0.91) and serum magnesium (1.63±0.16) when compared to premenopausal women who had serum calcium of (9.604 ± 0.70) and serum magnesium (2.48±0.55). The lowered calcium and magnesium levels were found to be extremely statistically significant with a p-value of <0.0001. Conclusion: Serum calcium and magnesium were decreased in post-menopausal women when compared to pre-menopausal women, which needs to be corrected to avoid certain postmenopausal symptoms and other serious health problems. This may improve cardiovascular and bone health in post menopausal women.","PeriodicalId":16362,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Medical Science And clinical Research","volume":"29 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-07-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139353750","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
