Treatments with the capacity to slow down the progression of AGA, or even to bring it to a halt, and at the same time don’t come with side effects are consequently highly sought for. Therefore this study investigates the effect of an over-the-counter nutritional supplement and a similarly formulated topical hair lotion on the progression of AGA. Methods: Seventy-nine healthy study participants of both sexes, who were diagnosed with AGA were divided into 4 study groups. The subjects of the first group were treated with the nutritional supplement, the subjects of the second group with the topical hair lotion, the subjects of the third group with both products, and the subjects of the fourth group served as a no-treatment control. At the beginning and at the end of this nine-month study, the participants were evaluated for their hair loss status. They also answered a questionnaire for self-assessment. A part of the subjects from each study group were further analysed by phototrichography, in order to measure the number of anagen and telogen hairs. Results: It turned out that the supplement, the lotion as well as the treatment with both products not only lead to a reduction in hair loss but also to an increased anagen to telogen hair ratio, whereas no such effects could be measured for the control group. Conclusion: The results show that a systemic delivery via a nutritional supplement, as well as a follicular delivery via a topically applied lotion, both resulted in a reduced hair loss rate as well as in an increased anagen to telogen hair ratio. Observation: A 75-year old Beninese woman with a history of portal hypertension post-viral cirrhosis C treated with negative viral load, had consulted for a large chronic ulceration of the right foot back. The beginning of the symptomatology would go back to about 30 years, marked by lichenified, pruriginous popular lesions; these lesions would initially be treated as eczema and then mycosis by health personnel not specialised in dermatology and multitreated with unspecified topicals. General state was altered. In addition to ulceration, the dermatological examination found plates of hyperpigmented lichen lesion, homogeneous and well limited bilateral and symmetrical topography on the pelvic limbs making difficult to walk. Anatomopathological examination of the biopsy sample straddling the ulceration and its edges suggested a hypertrophic cutaneous lichen associated with keratinizing, infiltrating epidermal carcinoma. The chest-abdominal-pelvic scan showed no metastasis. A complete amputation of the right leg and knee was performed after a psychological interview. The follow-up was marked by an over-infection of the amputation stump by Escherichia coli, which was successfully treated. Healed, she is waiting for orthopedic equipment and possible chemotherapy. Acoustic wave has been proven to penetrate deeper than subcutaneous tissue, independent of skin color, and to be beneficial for skin tightening and body contouring. Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness of a single acoustic wave treatment session using unique focused and radial acoustic waves for facial tightening. Participants: Sixty Asian patients were treated between the years 2016 and 2018. The single acoustic wave treatment session consists of focused long planar acoustic pulses thought to have an effect on cells and their metabolism resulting in an increased release of fat, and radial short acoustic pulses thought to have an effect on tissues activating blood and lymphatic flow. Patients did not undergo any form of medical aesthetic treatment during the study. Measurements: Digital photographs and three-dimensional imaging were used to evaluate the results. Results: Objective assessments with digital photographs and superimposed three-dimensional color images showed preferable facial tightening effects and marked volumetric reduction on the lower one-third of the face. These results were obtained without the edematous reactions observed in laser and radiofrequency therapies, and were sustained up to 12 months. All of the patients reported satisfaction with the results and convenience of the procedure. Complications were minor and transitory, consisting of a slight tingly sensation to the teeth during the treatment, and mild erythema resolving within 5 hours. Side effects were not observed. Conclusions: The advantages of the single acoustic wave treatment are the high potency of facial tightening effects, reduction of discomfort and side effects. Methods: Ten white female participants completed this randomised double-blind placebo controlled crossover study. Each participant was free from any make-up, and provided baseline measures of haemoglobin saturation, and facial skin colour and tone based on the CIE L* a* b* colour space. Five deep inhalations from the oxygen product or air placebo canister were then taken and second readings of all variables recorded. This process was repeated three times. Following a ten-minute rest period new baseline measures were made followed by a repeat of the procedure for the second treatment canister. Results: Data were analysed using factorial repeated measures analysis of variance (Anova). A significant treatment * time point interaction effect indicated an increase in blood oxygen saturation for the oxygen treatment, p = 0.007, whereas no change was found in the placebo condition. Significant differences were found between the treatments for measurements of red following inhalation, p = 0.033, with oxygen inhalation producing higher levels. In addition, a significant treatment * time point interaction effect was evident for the blue b* dimension, p = 0.009, with oxygen inhalation producing lower values than placebo over time. Individual Typology Angle values revealed no change following oxygen treatment, indicating skin tone was not affected. Conclusion: This study shows for the first time that inhalation of a branded oxygen beauty product can significantly impact blood oxygen saturation, and facial colour, producing a redder hue. These factors present deleterious effects on the cutaneous compartment by altering the skin barrier functions and accelerating the aging of the skin. Objectives: The goal of this study was to investigate the activity of Seaberry and Water Lily extracts, here called Dermina complex, against different external stresses. Methods: Human skin explants were exposed to different stimuli including delipidation by organic solvents, blue light, atmospheric pollutants and UV-A. The activity of the Seaberry and Water Lily extracts was assessed by immunohistochemistry and by biochemical assays. Results: We showed that Dermina complex prevents the delipidation-induced filaggrin decrease, suggesting that these plant extracts exhibited barrier function protecting properties. Also, we observed that Dermina complex showed an antioxidant and DNA protection activity by decreasing the activated form of Nrf2, the oxidized proteins and the formation of γ-H2AX induced upon stress conditions. The Dermina complex also decreased the pro-inflammatory cytokine IL-1 alpha released in the culture medium following atmospheric pollutants and UV-A exposure confirming its anti-inflammatory activity. Moreover, Dermina complex reduced the blue light-induced overexpression of opsin 3, indicating that its skin protection activities may be due, in part, to filter property \u0000against environmental stresses. This study aimed to investigate the positive effect of silk fibroin moisturizing cream on dry skin pruritus induced by acetone/ether-water (AEW) method in mice. Method: We established a dry skin model in mice with AEW treatment, and the control group was treated with ultrapure water. The mice in AEW model group were locally administrated with silk fibroin moisturizing cream (SilkArmor)®. The transepidermal water loss (TEWL), scratching behavior, condition of skin erythema, skin histology (by hematoxylin-eosin staining) and the results of electron microscopy were measured to evaluate the positive effect of SilkArmor on dry and itchy skin in mice. Results: The TEWL value, spontaneous scratching behavior and erythema score were significantly increased after AEW modeling compared with the control group. There was no significant difference in the TEWL value, scratching behavior and erythema score between the SilkArmor group and the control group (P > 0.05). Compared with the AEW group, the value of TEWL, scratching behavior and the erythema score of mice in the AEW + SilkArmor group were improved, with statistically significant differences (P < 0.05). Skin histopathology and electron microscopy also showed that SilkArmor had certain improvement and repairment on AEW-induced skin pathological changes. Camouflaging products which cover exposed areas on the scalp and hide visible hair loss are common, but medical therapies for female pattern hair loss (FPHL) are not so common. We have treated patients with FPHL using our combination therapy that consists of oral spironolactone, oral and topical minoxidil, and an injectable treatment for six years. Methods: 4568 female patients were treated between the years 2013 and 2018. Our combination therapy consists of 25 mg oral spironolactone once daily, 2.5 mg oral and 5% solution topical minoxidil twice daily, and an injectable treatment once monthly for 6 - 12 months. Digital photographs were taken pre- and post-treatment, and patient assessments were recorded after 6 and 12 months post-treatment. Results: Significant improvement was observed compared to the pre-treatment for all patients in the digital photographs. 95% and 96% of patients reported satisfaction with the results of the treatment after 6 and 12 months post-treatment, respectively. Minor complications were observed in a total of 223 (4.9%) patients, characterized by slight pain and bleeding due to injection, slight palpitation, swelling, hair growth in undesirable areas, headache, dizziness, itching. The seminor complications resolved spontaneously. No treatment-related adverse events were observed. Previous publications reported that minerals or chemical UV filters could induce the release of microalgae from corals inducing their bleaching. The study of the ecotoxicity of finished cosmetic products containing these filters is important. Objectives: We sought to assess ex vivo the toxicity of five emulsions containing UV-filters on coral cuttings of Seriatopora hystrix. Materials and Methods: Coral cuttings were put in contact with 5 different emulsions containing UV-filters. The toxicity readout was the ability to induce polyp retraction and/or fragment bleaching of the coral cuttings of Seriatopora hystrix. Results: In our experimental conditions, none of the five tested formulas neither induced any significant polyp retraction nor triggered fragment bleaching of the coral. Conclusions: The five tested emulsions containing UV-filters did not modify coral cuttings. The mucosal lesions had been initially diagnosed as oral lichen planus and resistant to various treatments with prednisolone, etretinate and mizoribine and so on. One year ago, rapidly growing verrucous lesion occurred on her upper lip. Although we administered intralesional radiation therapy, the tumor recurred and new whitish lesions on the buccal mucosa and hard palate occurred 9 months after treatment. We confirmed an anatomical blood supply to the tumors by a fluorescent real-time imaging system and subsequently administered the intra-arterial infusion of peplomycin through retrograde catheters from bilateral superficial temporal arteries under the final diagnosis as oral florid papillomatosis (OFP). The tumors were dramatically shrunk and did not recur 16 months after treatment. OFP is known as clinically multiple whitish and verrucous lesions over the oral cavity and lip and a subtype of SCC with high differentiation. As such, these products need to be tested to evaluate their skin irritation and sensitization potential before use. The products were evaluated with two separate tests. The first test was conducted in a single-center, within-subject comparison using assessor-blind, randomised human skin irritation patch test (48 hour/96 hour exposure) and conducted on healthy adults with sensitive, atopic skin. The second test was conducted in a single-center, controlled (sterile water), within subject using human repeat-insult patch tests (HRIPTs) and conducted on healthy female Indonesian and Asian adult female subjects, with sensitive skin. The sensitization potential of each product was determined from International Contact Dermatitis Research Group (ICDRG) scores at 30 minutes, 24 hours, 48 hours and 72 hours after patch removal. Skin irritation tests show that all products were significantly lower than the positive control sodium lauryl sulphate (SLS) (p < 0.05) but not significantly different to the negative control (sterile water) in terms of irritation scores at the respective time points. HRIPTs results show that Cussons Baby Sensicare Range was non-sensitizing. As such, it can be concluded that the Cussons Baby Sensicare Range tested is well tolerated on skin and has low skin irritation and sensitization potential.
