The work was carried out in six tomato and strawberry production greenhouses located in the city of Durango, in northern Mexico, from August to November 2014. Plant extracts formulated with lechugilla surfactant based on chicalote (Argemone mexicana L.), skunk epazote (Chenopodium glaucum) and higuerilla (Ricinus communis) were used as controls and sprayed at intervals of 15 days each. Field results indicate that the formulation based on neem oil, nopal pectin, chamomile and lechuguilla extracts presented a moth mortality rate of 60% in tomato crops and 62% in strawberry crops.","PeriodicalId":153856,"journal":{"name":"Agro Productividad","volume":" 7","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139142775","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Methodology: Seeds of the genotypes that make up the HAZUL 10E maize hybrid (inbred lines and simple and trilineal crosses) were used. The experimental design was completely randomized with three repetitions. Physical characteristics of the seeds (weight, width, thickness, length, volume, density and the ratios width/length of seed and thickness/length of seed) and physiological (normal and abnormal seedlings, inert seeds, and lengths and dry matter of plumule, radicle and total) were evaluated. Heterosis and heterobeltiosis were determined and their differences between both crosses were tested with Student's t test. Results: Heterosis and heterobeltiosis were higher in the single cross than in the trilineal one. In the single cross, the higher values of both heterosis corresponded to plumule, radicle and total dry matter; followed by weight and seed volume. In the trilinear, the highest values corresponded to normal seedlings and radicle length and biomass, and total. The determining variables of the shape, the formation of normal seedlings and the elongation of the radicle, responded better to hybridization in the trilineal cross. Study limitations: None presented. Conclusions: In the single cross, heterosis increased the seed size and the biomass accumulated in the seedlings; while in the trilineal cross, it affected the shape of the seed and the seedlings produced.","PeriodicalId":153856,"journal":{"name":"Agro Productividad","volume":" 27","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139145022","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Design/ Methodology/ Approach: this is a preliminary, descriptive, and non-experimental study of the different stages of the reproductive phenology cycle of E. urophylla conducted in a 16-year-old provenance-progeny trial with 63 half-sib families. The study was done during 2019, 2020 and 2021. Results: the reproductive cycle of E. urophylla lasts approximately one year. There was a lag of about a month and a half for the beginning of flowering among genotypes that flowered during the three years of evaluation. Study Limitations/ Implications: the results are limited to a single site condition; so, it is recommended to make evaluations in other locations. This is, to observe plant behavior in different site conditions to evaluate the potential of the species development in southeastern Mexico. Findings/ Conclusions: the beginning of the reproductive cycle of E. urophylla coincided with that of other species of the genus from tropical and subtropical climate. However, the duration differed compared to other genotypes of the same species growing in other parts of the world under similar environmental conditions. This study allowed to know relevant information of the species in Huimanguillo, Tabasco, which will contribute to improve the process of domestication of this species in the southeast of Mexico.","PeriodicalId":153856,"journal":{"name":"Agro Productividad","volume":" 5","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135291227","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Materials and methods: manual collections of Scyphophorus acupunctatus were carried out in Agave plantations. The daily behavior of mite-infested weevils was documented. The latter were observed and classified according to specialized taxonomic keys. Results and Conclusions: there was an anomalous behavior of the agave weevil possibly favored by the infestation by mites, which can play an important role in the detriment of the vitality of that pest. Scyphophorus acupunctatus (Coleoptera: Curculionidae) interacted with three groups of mites; Macrocheles merdarius (Acari: Mesostigmata: Macrochelidae), Tridiplogynium sp. (Acari: Mesostigmata: Diplogyniidae) and Curculanoetus sp. (Acari: Sarcoptiformes: Histiostomatidae). Implications: this study is the first to document the presence of phoretic mites on S. acupunctatus. It is the first report to document the association between the agave weevil and the aforementioned arachnids (Acari: acari) that participate and play a desirable role in the biological control of S. acupunctatus.","PeriodicalId":153856,"journal":{"name":"Agro Productividad","volume":" 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135291224","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

 Design/methodology/approach: The information was obtained from the application of 40 surveys to producers in nine communities in the municipality of Huehuetla, Puebla, using the methodology of financial evaluation of long-term agricultural projects.
 Results: The results of the diagnosis show that it is a highly profitable crop, indicating an average production cost 0.1 ha-1 of $ 54,471.90 and the average total sale price 0.1 ha-1 of $ 187,500.00, which results in a high profitability (R B/C=2.54), even in conditions of small cultivation areas, in addition to the fact that producers combine it with other perennial and annual species that generate short and medium term income for family sustenance.

 Limitations on study/implications: Vanilla producers are located in a region with marginalized characteristics due to its geographic location, which makes access to communication difficult, and they lack a government agency to represent them; therefore, information on production costs and prices is limited and dispersed.
 Findings/conclusions: Vanilla is a crop with great productive potential in the Totonacapan region, and especially in the municipality of Huehuetla, as it is a crop with high commercial value, it is a highly profitable alternative for producers, for all these benefits among other advantages of the crop, it is recommended to strongly support programs that promote its expansion, support in the development of strategies and technologies for the improvement of cultivation techniques that are reflected in higher yields, better quality and ensure a marketing that benefits the producers of these vanilla-growing areas of the northeastern region of the state of Puebla and the surrounding area, so that regional development is stimulated through potentially profitable crops such as vanilla.","PeriodicalId":153856,"journal":{"name":"Agro Productividad","volume":" 3","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135291222","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, its production and commercialization are limited by the low yield per colony and its high sale price. This study seeks to recover the lore and actions that a group of producers from Cuetzálan, Puebla, Mexico has about the production of honey from the Scaptotrigona mexicana species of stingless bees. The objective was to collect information about the handling, production, and commercialization of tis bee species, as well as the challenges that producers face in the Cuetzálan region. Design/Methodology/Approach: This research was carried out using a qualitative approach. Semi-structured interviews were conducted to gather the information. The participants were chosen using the snowball sampling technique, contacting stingless bee honey producers in Cuetzálan, Puebla, Mexico. Results: The lore about the handling of the stingless bees is passed on from generation to generation. This traditional handling is understood as a cultural symbol. This type of honey is renowned for its medicinal properties; however, its production is scarce, and the resulting product is very expensive. Consequently, the theft and adulteration of honey has become a major problem, creating mistrust among consumers. Study Limitations/Implications: More producers should be interviewed, and additional proof of the handling processes used to identify adulteration should be gathered. This information would be used to develop recommendations that could be applied in other producing regions of the country. Findings/Conclusions: The social and scientific recognition of the properties of stingless bee honey shows the importance of adopting innovations; however, including organizational processes to improve the commercialization channels and to minimize unfair honey production practices is also very important.","PeriodicalId":153856,"journal":{"name":"Agro Productividad","volume":" 3","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135291229","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
