Situational analysis on the impact of COVID-19 pandemic on education of primary and secondary school-age individuals from March 2020 to December 2020 reveal that the education opportunities for learners with disabilities remained unpredictable as the disease ravaged communities to the end of the year.  Learners with disabilities fell behind academically after school closure and COVID-19 related biases predisposed them to academic failure and failed adulthood. Then, the implementation of disaster education and recovery plans are overdue and must intentionally target education of children and youth with disabilities. ","PeriodicalId":151861,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Modern Education Studies","volume":"62 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-02-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130642327","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It was conducted in Makerere University Business School (MUBS) in Uganda. A phenomenological qualitative study approach was employed. The respondents were able to narrate their stories on their own experience when undertaking research. The selection of the 17 respondents who participated in this study was done using purposive technique. To be selected as a respondent in this study, one had to be a student of MUBS pursuing an MBA programme and had to have completed the coursework component of their work but had delayed in the programme due to failure to complete their research component in time. The student had to still being engaged in research without having sought a “dead period”, an official period of withdrawal before resumption, or having internally decided to give the course a break.  The findings revealed that the students’ attitude towards research was mainly influenced by supervision, the students’ own abilities and the environment they suddenly found themselves in. Given the findings, it is recommended that the Business school be flexible in terms of selection of supervisors and also come up with adequate orientation programme on research.","PeriodicalId":151861,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Modern Education Studies","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-12-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126410882","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study also aims to investigate to what extent teacher beliefs and practices compromise with each other and cognitive and contextual factors behind their cognition. The data were collected through interviews, observations, and stimulated recall with the teachers. The findings after a cross-case analysis revealed that coursebook-based beliefs, experience-based beliefs, lack of theoretical knowledge and inclination for communicative activities influence what teachers believe about GT. There are both congruent and incongruent relationships between beliefs and practices varying from one teacher to another due to the effect of experiential knowledge, unconscious decisions, and some contextual factors. The findings can contribute to the integration of LTC into ISLA studies, and to LTC framework by exploring the effects of many variables on teachers’ decision making processes. Key words: Language Teacher Cognition (LTC), Grammar Teaching (GT), teacher beliefs, teacher practices","PeriodicalId":151861,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Modern Education Studies","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-12-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130664546","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In contrast, organizations and educational institutions, developers, and end users do not benefit from cloud-based mobile technologies to the desired level. Mobile systems are used extensively for educational purposes in the Internet of Things (IoT) environment, and the number of online students is increasing. The real problem is how user-friendly, aesthetic mobile learning courses can be effectively delivered on different mobile devices in the desired performance and manner. The responsive design developed with fog computing should be able to provide the ability to design and use mobile learning lessons with sufficient performance, automatically adapted to any browser or device. This should ensure that every person of the target audience can benefit from the lessons without worrying about screen size, resolution, speed and even security. In this study, the fog informatics teaching strategies of mobile learning sensitive teaching design are discussed. The fog computing architecture that can be used with responsive mobile learning, utilizing mobile computing to provide seamless and low latency mobile devices, is described. Finally, a fog-based, responsive designed mobile learning education architecture has been compiled with a better understanding of the lessons and a suitable structure for the use of mobile devices in education.","PeriodicalId":151861,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Modern Education Studies","volume":"102 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115638854","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This review of 15 articles highlights classroom interventions that successfully enhanced vocabulary and spelling skills among ESL, English Only, English language learners (ELL), and learning disabled (LD) students. The strategies that enhanced vocabulary skills were reading strategies, story book reading strategies, and memorization strategies. The strategies that enhanced spelling skills were Cover, Copy, Compare (CCC) and writing strategies. Results showed that the strategy of storybook reading enhanced the vocabulary skills among both English Only and ESL students. Writing strategies resulted in spelling skill improvement for students with LD. Future research should focus on the CCC strategy application to improve their vocabulary skills for ESL students who also have LD.","PeriodicalId":151861,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Modern Education Studies","volume":"40 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-12-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114491335","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The study was a descriptive study based on a single screening model. A total of 291 freshman, sophomore, junior and senior students studying at a state university in Turkey during the fall semester of the academic year 2018-2019 participated in the study. Teachers’ Sense of Efficacy Scale (TSES) which was originally developed by Tschannen-Moran & Woolfolk Hoy (2001) and adapted into Turkish by Çapa, Çakıroğlu, and Sarıkaya (2005) was used to determine pre-service EFL teachers’ self-efficacy beliefs. Pre-service EFL teachers’ self-efficacy beliefs were analyzed by descriptive statistics.  Differences in participants’ self-efficacy perceptions by class level were analyzed by one-way ANOVA. The Tukey multiple comparison test was used to determine significant differences among the different class levels. Research results revealed that pre-service EFL teachers had relatively high-level teacher self-efficacy perceptions in general and for classroom management, student engagement and instructional strategies subscales. Also, it was found that juniors had significantly higher scores than sophomores in both total scale and student engagement subscale. Total and subscale scores at other class levels did not differ significantly.  It was suggested that pre-service EFL teachers’ self-efficacy perceptions should be considered with greater attention in the ELT program at the university and special efforts are required to strengthen seniors’ self-efficacy perceptions.","PeriodicalId":151861,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Modern Education Studies","volume":"44 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-07-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133406046","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Cognitive Diagnosis Modeling approach has been used recently for the purpose of ability level detection by defined Q-matrices. This paper aims to use Cognitive Diagnosis Modeling (CDM) in order to investigate the definition of a Q-matrix across the cognitive skills of different years and countries in TIMSS. There is a subjective way in defining Q-matrices; for this purpose, an application of building Q-matrices under specific CDMs, from a set of expert proposed attributes is examined. The proposed attributes are used to build Q-matrices for TIMSS mathematics questions across its cycles, and across different nations.","PeriodicalId":151861,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Modern Education Studies","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-07-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116917025","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

While cultural studies are a channel between the municipality and the public, another channel is education, especially youth education. Especially for years between 2011 and 2018 youth education, culture and public relations activities carried out by the municipality of Konya, are among the best in Turkey. The youth education activities carried out within the framework of public relations activities by the Municipality of Konya, which is a local government institution, and a youth survey conducted with five thousand university students in this context are being mentioned in this article. With a young population of over 13 million, Turkey has a dynamic structure when it is compared to many developed countries. The reason for Turkey's sustainable growth momentum in recent years is not only dependent on the stability of economic, political and diplomatic relations; but also closely related to place a particular importance to the youth and their roles as well. It is very important for young people to have a living space that is appropriate for the requirements of the time and place they live in, both in terms of meeting their personal development at the highest level and in accessing the equipment that can compete with their peers in the external world (Kizilkaya, et al, 2013: p.230).Local governments have played the most important role in the constitution and implementation of youth policies. Because of being the closest institutions to the public, when it is compared to other local administrations, municipalities come foremost. Within the scope of cultural municipality, various projects have started to be organized for the youth. The construction of cultural centers and youth centers, the establishment of youth assemblies and the provision of youth services have grown and gained momentum.After 2004, fundamental changes have started in local governments and as a result many services have been provided in various fields. Among these activities, youth services have a very important position. In this study, the activities of Konya Metropolitan Municipality under the title of “youth” and within the scope of these activities, a quantitative (meaning analysis) research with the youth in Konya Province will be interpreted. ","PeriodicalId":151861,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Modern Education Studies","volume":"2011 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117057030","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Preservice teachers are required to prepare and later present a sample micro teaching session. First of all, they were advised to freely select a topic (or an attainment) of their own intention within 5-8 middle school mathematics subjects. Then, every one of them planned their own special session. While they were planning the sessions, they were advised to take into account of all perspectives and practices of the theoretical subjects covered via the course of Special Teaching Methods 1 and the experiences that they gained during the other courses of the mathematics teacher education program. After that, each one performed tasks in the classroom environment related to their own planning. No intervention was made to the preservice mathematics teachers by the lecturer during the sessions. After each session, the remaining candidates and the lecturer made critique about the candidate’s performance. The study was conducted with 50 preservice teachers who take Special Teaching Methods II course. A systematic observation form has been prepared and used for data collection. Descriptive analysis and content analysis based on observations were used as mixed methods in the study. Findings show that preservice mathematics teachers have some misconceptions regarding the lectured subject, besides the deficiencies and mistakes in the course planning and performance.","PeriodicalId":151861,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Modern Education Studies","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-01-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124932733","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
