The characteristically similar nature of the melanocytic skin lesions specifically melanoma and dysplastic nevi make the diagnosis more subjective and time consuming, even for expert clinicians. Computer aided diagnostic system has a great impact on the notable discrimination of two closely similar classes of skin diseases by extracting a large number of effective features. In this reported work fractal geometry has been used for both skin lesion border irregularity measurement and texture features extraction. Here, in fractal based texture analysis technique the dermoscopic images have been decomposed into a set of binary images to extract more effective texture features from different grey regions of the image. From each of the image grey region, some statistical features have been extracted along with the fractal dimension measurement to quantify the intensity variation in that region. In this paper it has been established that the extraction of texture information from different small sub regions of the original image using fractal texture analysis increases the classification performance for both the classes. An analysis of the dependence of the performance of classifier using fractal based texture analysis, on the number of decomposed binary images, has been discussed. The highest classification sensitivity of 93.75% and 91.66% have been achieved for melanoma and dysplastic nevi respectively, using support vector machine (SVM) classifier by extracting fractal based texture features from forty grey scale regions of the dermoscopic images.","PeriodicalId":151809,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE Uttar Pradesh Section International Conference on Electrical, Computer and Electronics Engineering (UPCON)","volume":"68 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116265321","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper proposes control strategies for diesel engine and electric generators used in electric tugboat to improve energy efficiency of the system. Doubly fed induction machine (DFIM), asynchronous in nature, is considered in this research which serves as generator (power production). The speed of diesel engine is controlled in accordance with the power demanded by the tug. Output voltage and frequency of generator during sub-synchronous operation are regulated by controlling its rotor current with the help of power electronic convertors. Comparison of fuel consumption at fixed and variable speeds of operation is performed. From the test results, it is observed that the variable speed operation of diesel generator offers significant reduction in fuel consumption.","PeriodicalId":151809,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE Uttar Pradesh Section International Conference on Electrical, Computer and Electronics Engineering (UPCON)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129802694","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Rendering real world IR images on state of the art display devices requires compression of HDR IR images without losing the perceptibility of details. The proposed algorithm is a combination of preprocessing module for detail enhancement and Dynamic Range Compression(DRC) for LDR display. In the preprocessing module, the base and detail components of input HDR image are obtained using bilateral filtering. The detail component of IR image is scaled and added back to its base component and then the resultant is compressed using DRC method for display on LDR monitors. MATLAB simulation and Real-Time implemented results show a significant improvement in the results obtained when a given DRC method is preceded by the proposed preprocessing module. The DRC algorithms referred here are AGC, classical Histogram Equalization, Histogram Projection and Adaptive Plateau Equalization. The real time implementation procedure of current proposed algorithm using xilinx Virtex-4 FPGA is explained.","PeriodicalId":151809,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE Uttar Pradesh Section International Conference on Electrical, Computer and Electronics Engineering (UPCON)","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128852752","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Two novel evolutionary computation techniques called Fish Electrolocation Optimization (FEO) and Modified Cultural Algorithm (MCA) have been implemented for performing cost based reliability improvement in radial distribution system. Reliability improvement, energy loss and total cost minimization have been studied as single objective optimization by real coded Genetic Algorithm (rcGA), Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO), Fish Electrolocation Optimization (FEO) and Modified Cultural Algorithm (MCA). The results obtained by FEO and MCA are promising. Multi-objective optimization has been performed considering distribution system reliability index SAIFI, SAIDI and AENS as well as total cost and energy loss. Pareto optimal solutions have been found out by effective MCA and FEO. It has been observed that the non dominated solutions obtained by FEO are better than the solutions achieved by MCA.","PeriodicalId":151809,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE Uttar Pradesh Section International Conference on Electrical, Computer and Electronics Engineering (UPCON)","volume":"52 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123151099","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this work the architecture has been analyzed with a stack of gate dielectric material (low-k beneath a high-k dielectric) and a heavily doped n+ pocket region between source and drain to further boost the on-state characteristics. The performance of this newly proposed architecture has been compared with symmetrically doped p-i-n DG TFET. Through simulation, the impact of varying gate bias, drain bias and metal gate work function values over the varying potential profile, energy band profile and the charge concentration profile (inside drain region of the device) has been observed and investigated carefully. Furthermore, the drain current profiles for both symmetric TFET and the TFET with undoped drain have been compared with and without pocket cases. This newly proposed architecture offers no tunneling during accumulation state and helps in reducing dynamic power dissipation through parasitic components which seems beneficial for switching applications.","PeriodicalId":151809,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE Uttar Pradesh Section International Conference on Electrical, Computer and Electronics Engineering (UPCON)","volume":"135 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124240113","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Solar PV array has a non-linear characteristic. The voltage across the output terminals of the PV array and its internal resistance vary along with changes in the ambient conditions of temperature and insolation. As irradiation and temperature falling onto the panel vary, its voltage across the load as well as internal resistance varies. The aim of this paper is to simulate the maximum power point tracking (MPPT) of solar PV module with Perturb and Observe (P&O) technique and compare the results with those of genetic algorithm (GA) optimized artificial neural network (ANN) based MPPT approach. In this study the Bayesian regulation based ANN algorithm is used in predict the maximum power points at given values of temperature and irradiance. The data obtained from optimization technique using GA is used to train ANN. The simulation is carried out using MATLAB-Simulink. The results obtained show that the GA optimized ANN based approach meets the requirement of the optimum power supply to the load and attenuates the fluctuations around this operating point.","PeriodicalId":151809,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE Uttar Pradesh Section International Conference on Electrical, Computer and Electronics Engineering (UPCON)","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132934975","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Adaptive Equalizers (AEs) are used to reduce the ISI and the noise by updating the filter coefficients without having the prior information about the noise. So the necessity of designing more efficient adaptive filters has been emerged as one of the interesting research areas over last decades. In recent past some optimization techniques have been developed which provide better results than conventional Adaptive Equalizers (AEs). In this context, an attempt has been made to explore some efficient AEs based on the intelligent computational techniques. Three optimization techniques namely Harmony Search (HS), Cuckoo Search (CS) and Flower Pollination Algorithm (FPA) have been used in this paper. Moreover, the comparative analysis of the convergence behavior and BER performances of the proposed AEs have been investigated and also compared with Least Mean Square (LMS) Algorithms and Constant Modulus Algorithms (CMA) based AEs. Furthermore, performance analysis of the proposed AEs under different fading channel conditions like Rayleigh, Rician and Nakagami Fading have also been studied. Finally, the performances of the proposed equalizers have been evaluated in WiMAX system.","PeriodicalId":151809,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE Uttar Pradesh Section International Conference on Electrical, Computer and Electronics Engineering (UPCON)","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132341039","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It has, therefore, become relevant to study the dynamics of their integration with the available technologies. Of all renewable resources, Photovoltaic generation is the most prevalent resource in India. Keeping this in mind, a multistage cascaded converter system is developed in this paper. The proposed technique comprises of a PV (Photo voltaic) fed MPPT (Maximum Power Point Tracking) controlled boost converter in cascade with a sliding mode controlled inverter. The paper aims at extracting maximum power from a PV source and converting it to a good quality ac power. The effect of variable output of PV generation due to varying solar irradiation has also been taken into consideration to establish the effectiveness of MPPT controlled boost converter. The performance of the sliding mode controlled voltage source inverter, when compared with a PI controlled voltage source inverter, is found to be superior in terms of the quality of the ac power.","PeriodicalId":151809,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE Uttar Pradesh Section International Conference on Electrical, Computer and Electronics Engineering (UPCON)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131191626","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
