We detail depredation events by the felid species, Panthera onca (Jaguar), observed in southeastern Peru in 2004. The observations were made during ongoing research, which includes radio-telemetry tracking and a reintroduction project. Given historical observed ecological overlaps, we also speculate that Puma concolor (Puma, Mountain Lion) could be a potential predator of A. microtis. Our findings expand the limited existing knowledge on the predators of A. microtis, suggesting a broader range of predators than previously identified.","PeriodicalId":150887,"journal":{"name":"Mammalogy Notes","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"138601809","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, its occurrence in urban-dwelling arboreal primates, including the genus Alouatta, is not well represented in the literature. This is the first recorded instance of diurnal birth and placentophagia in an urban environment by a female black-and-gold howler monkey (Alouatta caraya) in Pilar, Paraguay. Observations were made as part of the Para La Tierra Urban Howler Project. A total of 165-minutes of observations during the postpartum period are reported presently, including behaviours of the mother, neonate, and other group members. The mother exhibited self- and allogrooming of the infant, and consumption of the placenta and umbilical cord, which aligns with known Alouatta post-parturition behaviors, despite the novel urban setting. This event indicates the species' behavioral flexibility and suggests potential adaptation to urban habitats, that are absent of natural predators but present novel anthropogenic stressors. Understanding a species’ adaptability is vital for development of robust conservation strategies as primates increasingly inhabit urban landscapes.","PeriodicalId":150887,"journal":{"name":"Mammalogy Notes","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"138601317","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

La mayoría de estudios de esta especie proceden del nororiente del país, mientras que se desconoce su situación actual en la Amazonía central. Este trabajo proporciona nuevos datos sobre las poblaciones de delfines rosados localizadas al sur del Parque Nacional Yasuní, a partir del conocimiento etnobiológico del Pueblo Kichwa de Kawsak Sacha. Treinta y tres personas de seis comunidades kichwas proporcionaron datos inéditos sobre el delfin rosado, incluyendo nombres locales, tamaño de los grupos observados, dieta, sus valores y las amenazas existentes a partir de entrevistas realizadas en el año 2021. Al sur del Parque Nacional Yasuní, los delfines son avistados con frecuencia (uno a cinco ejemplares por avistamiento) en los ríos Curaray y Pintoyacu, en las bocanas de ríos secundarios y algunas lagunas. Los entrevistados tienen una percepción positiva hacia la presencia de estos cetáceos en sus comunidades y reconocen distintos valores, considerándolos como indicadores de buena calidad ecosistémica, espíritus tutelares y de importancia potencial para el turismo.  Si bien, desde el año 2005 la especie está protegida en este territorio kichwa y nunca ha sido cazada, hay reportes ocasionales de caza por parte de pescadores extranjeros en la zona limítrofe de los ríos Curaray y Pintoyacu. De igual forma, la reducción de ciertas especies de peces, identificadas como las principales presas del delfín rosado en la zona por los entrevistados, son dos amenazas graves que pueden comprometer la conservación futura de esta especie.","PeriodicalId":150887,"journal":{"name":"Mammalogy Notes","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124307501","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This species is susceptible to pressures such as pollution, and hunting., Estimating its distribution and abundance are essential to plan and adapt management strategies for these landscapes. Using occupancy models, we estimated occupancy of 0.52 (PI95%=0.26-0.87) with a probability of detection of 0.36 (PI95%=0.18-0.56). No effects were found on the probability of occupancy by selected covariates. We recommend extending the management and monitoring programs to a broader scale with sampling units equivalent to the home range size of the species.","PeriodicalId":150887,"journal":{"name":"Mammalogy Notes","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115606191","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
