In the case of immigrant experience, the physical space provides an environment in which memories, traditions, and evolution of identity can occur. In this case study, I examine the results of a service-learning project with first-year Honors students in a public, regional university. In the course design, community-engaged activities, and assignments, I shaped the experiences of the students as if they were translocals and the college campus were the receiving community. Although not explicitly detailed to the students, their project was framed as an immigrant community that had the opportunity to transform space for the betterment of both groups. The assignment -- to improve access and quality of the campus food pantry -- created new socio-spatial relationships and enabled the student to remain connected to places left behind while forging new place ties. It explored the historic narrative of the Indigenous Beothuk people of Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada through music. The study focused on the opera Shanawdithit by Canadian composer Dean Burry, and Indigenous Canadian librettist, Yvette Nolan as an example of how music curriculum can be reconsidered and reimagined. The anthropological and archeological history of the Indigenous Beothuk people - as was taught in Canadian history was filtered through a Western European lens. The musical work reconceptualized the story of Shanawdithit - considered the last of the Beothuk people in Newfoundland and was told from an Indigenous perspective. As well, other notable works by Canadian Indigenous will be presented in this study. In an everchanging environment traditional “hard” aspects of engineering knowledge are essential but do not, by themselves, ensure a graduate candidate’s suitability for a particular post. Increasingly, the industry is observing a “divergence” between academic teaching and industrial practice in terms of the necessary “soft” engineering skills. Results: This project identified the differences between the student and industry professional expectation of those elements of engineering practice that transcend the “hard” elements of the engineering curriculum by focusing on the opinion and desirability of a series of skills such as: Project Planning; Business Planning; Competitor Analysis; Market Analysis; Finance; Health and Safety; Stakeholder Analysis; Strategy; Innovation in Enterprise; Leadership; Risk Management and Ethics. To that effect a set questionnaire ranking those skills in terms of importance and difficulty has been disseminated to student and industry professionals along with two open ended questions that asked participants to identify graduate engineers’ needs and curriculum enhancements. The goal of this work is to give a chance to computer science senior project students to work on a broad spectrum of projects using Apache, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP, and MySQL. In this paper the web app is Course and Faculty Management System allowing educational organizations efficiently organize and manage their courses and faculty. The web application is interactive, responsive, secured, password and database driven app. The website is accessible on all devices. Public users can view the courses the university offers as well as which instructors teach them. Courses can be filtered by term and subject. Users that are logged in and have the correct permissions can edit/add/delete courses, departments, and instructors in the database. Admins can import files containing information about multiple courses as well as export the courses in the database to a csv file. The admin can also edit the other user’s permissions. Admins with full permissions can edit permissions for other registered accounts. They have access to the Manage Categories, Manage Certificates, Manage Courses, Manage Recipients, and Manage Users pages depending on their permissions. The web app is accessible on all devices and is designed to be mobile as well.
