We first derive the approximate expression of optimal gain of APD. Then based on beam-spread function, a closed-form expression of relationship of optimal gain of APD, link range and receiver offset distance is derived. Then a self-adaptive gain control scheme is designed to keep the gain of receiver as optimal gain when the receiver deviates unpredictably. We also evaluate the dynamic range of receiver gain. Our results are beneficial for receiver design and link reliability improvement.","PeriodicalId":143739,"journal":{"name":"7th International Conference on Communications and Networking in China","volume":"2 1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123426804","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Intra coding is used for reducing the spatial redundancy in video coding. H.264 supports several MB (Macroblock) predictions for Intra coding such as luma block four 16×16 modes, nine 4×4 modes and chroma block four modes, which significantly improve Intra coding efficiency, but increase the encoding complexity. This paper presents an approach to the intra mode decision problem. Based on Laplacian, this approach detects edges and then selects the best mode for the block. This method can shorten the time to choose a mode and reduce the encoding time as well.","PeriodicalId":143739,"journal":{"name":"7th International Conference on Communications and Networking in China","volume":"62 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125517509","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Compared with conventionally used general purpose CPU, e.g. X86 CPU, ARM processors have advantages in both price and power consumption under the same computing capability. Two basic issues of SDR over ARM are investigated: the real-time operation and signal processing efficiency. For the former issue, we select the Linux-based real-time operating system Xenomai, which is built on Cortex-A9 platform. Testing results show that the performance of Xenomai on Cortex-A9 meets the real-time requirement of SDR. Furthermore, the NEON technology of Cortex-A9 is used to optimize the complex signal processing algorithms in communication systems. Soft Demodulation is taken as an example for the optimization, and the experimental results are provided to show the improvement of signal processing efficiency.","PeriodicalId":143739,"journal":{"name":"7th International Conference on Communications and Networking in China","volume":"69 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114144752","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Since the cognitive radio users can not sense all the channels simultaneously, it is important for the users to select sensing channels properly. We first formulate the channel selection problem as a coordination game model and then propose a learning algorithm to achieve the optimal solution. The proposed algorithm is simple, distributed, and optimal; moreover, it only need slight information exchange. Also, the tradeoff between sensing cost and achievable system throughput is investigated. The proposed solution provides a promising approach for distributed optimization problems, especially the one with heavy computation complexity, and hence can be applied to other scenarios.","PeriodicalId":143739,"journal":{"name":"7th International Conference on Communications and Networking in China","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114725580","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Interference management has become an important issue in system design, especially in heterogeneous networks since interference is more severe. To combat the interference, coordination between cells in heterogeneous network is considered. According to the quality of backhaul link, coordination can be implemented semi-statically or dynamically. By semi-static coordination, time-frequency resources and spatial resources used for transmission are coordinated. To achieve better coordination result, dynamic coordination can be operated if backhaul quality is sufficient. A hybrid approach of semi-static and dynamic coordination is proposed to take advantages of both sides. An efficient algorithm is given to find suboptimal solution to the complex optimization problem for the dynamic part of the hybrid approach. Numerical results are given to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed solution.","PeriodicalId":143739,"journal":{"name":"7th International Conference on Communications and Networking in China","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126289442","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
