Mild respiratory infection is the common clinical manifestation of COVID-19, and the less common is pneumonia accompanied by fever, cough, and breathing difficulty. Long COVID can be defined as prolonged signs and symptoms which cannot be explained for other reasons 4 weeks after being diagnosed with SARS-CoV-2. This study aimed to describe the cause of illness is confirmed or suspected COVID-19 patients, specifically on long COVID. Subjects and Method: We performed literature searches of the latest articles with Medline, CINAHL (EBSCO), Global Health (Ovid), WHO Global Research on COVID-19 database, LitCovid and Google Scholar databases published from 2019 to 2020. Two reviewers searched all articles independently (P and W, with 7 and 10 years of experience, respectively). We conducted a systematic review to provide recent evidence of symptoms and complications in long COVID. We followed PRISMA guidelines.","PeriodicalId":13354,"journal":{"name":"IJAAM (Indonesian Journal of Anti-Aging Medicine)","volume":"39 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"74461068","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

There are many methods of conservative and operative treatment, one of them is external fixation. External fixation is more common used temporary in polytraumatized patients with tibial shaft fractures. The study was undertaken to see if the patient can be treated with external fixation as the definitive treatment and evaluate the functional outcome after the treatment. Subjects and Method: A retrospective review of a prospectively-collected database was performed. Data was taken from the Orthopaedic Department of RSUD Dr. Moewardi Hospital patients’ database. The study included all patients who underwent grade III open tibial fracture treatment from May 2018 to May 2019. A total of 8 patients who were included in our study were a patient with open tibial fractures grade III planned for external fixaton as definitive treatment. They were evaluated radiographically and clinically to determine the union rate. The data were reported descriptively. Results: External fixator time ranged in this study around 240 days. In this study, there were a few patients whose progress were remain unknown due to loss of contact. Fractures studied 5 out of 8, no patient were union after 8 months of external fixator used. 4 out of 8 patients were reported non-union after 8 months based on their radiological examination (50%) and 1 out of 8 patients were reported has been performed Removal of External Fixation (ROEF) after 5 months of treatment. The rest of the 3 patients’ results were remain unknown. Conclusion: Open tibial fractures grade III of the leg can be managed with use of external fixator as a definitive treatment. However, the use of external fixation does not provide maximum results in grade III A tibial fractures.","PeriodicalId":13354,"journal":{"name":"IJAAM (Indonesian Journal of Anti-Aging Medicine)","volume":"40 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"78720946","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The most common symptom of knee OA is pain around the joint. Patients with OA require long treatment, especially using analgesic and anti-inflammatory drugs. Turmeric is efficacious as a pain reliever and anti-inflammatory. This study aims to estimate the magnitude of the effect of turmeric extract (Curcuma domestica) on pain in patients with knee OA compared to placebo and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), based on the results of a number of previous similar studies. Subjects and Method: This study is a systematic review and meta-analysis with the following PICO, population: patients with knee OA. Intervention: turmeric extract. Comparison: placebo and NSAIDs. Outcome: pain reduction. The articles used in this study were obtained from three databases, namely Google Scholar, Pubmed, and Science Direct. Keywords to search for articles: “Knee Osteoarthritis” OR “Knee OA” AND “Curcuma longa” OR “Curcuma domestica” OR “Turmeric extract” AND “Placebo” OR “NSAID” AND “pain” OR “visual analogue scale” OR “ VASE\". The articles included are full-text with RCT study designs from 2011 to 2021. The selection of articles is carried out using PRISMA flow diagrams. Articles were analyzed using the Review Manager 5.3 application. Results: A total of 15 RCT studies were selected for systematic review and meta-analysis. Data collected from 10 studies showed that patients with knee OA who received turmeric extract experienced 1.60 units lower joint pain than placebo (SMD= -1.60; 95% CI= -2.23 to -0.97; p<0.001). Data from 5 studies showed that patients with knee OA who received turmeric extract experienced 0.06 units higher joint pain than NSAIDs. The comparison between the turmeric extract group and the NSAID group did not show any significant difference (SMD= 0.06; 95% CI= -0.10 to -0.22; p= 0.490). Conclusion: Administration of turmeric extract was more effective than placebo and not inferior to non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs in reducing pain in patients with knee OA.","PeriodicalId":13354,"journal":{"name":"IJAAM (Indonesian Journal of Anti-Aging Medicine)","volume":"5 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"82473989","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Long-term use of certain anti-epileptic drugs (AED) will strongly induce cytochrome-P450 (CYP) enzyme resulting increase of homocysteine associated with risk of cerebrovascular disease and depression. The purpose of this study was to determine relationship between serum level of ApoA, ApoB, and C-Reactive Protein (CRP) with depression in epileptic patients receiving AED therapy. Subjects and Method: Respondents of this cross-sectional study were epileptic outpatients in neurology clinic Dr. Moewardi Hospital, Surakarta receiving AED therapy and met inclusion and exclusion criteria. Depression condition was evaluated by Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HDRS). Serum level of ApoA, ApoB, and CRP of each respondent were measured from vein blood. Data were analyzed by a multiple linear regression. Results: There were 51 epileptic patients with proportional ratio between men and women (1.2:1) with age range from 18 to 59 years old. The average length of AED 92.67 months (Mean= 92.67; SD= 91.58). Average of HDRS score was 8.49. Meanwhile, average of ApoA level was 86.14 mg/dL, average of ApoB level was 47.57 mg/dL, and average of CRP level was 0.18 mg/dL. Serum level of ApoA, ApoB, and CRP increased depression (HDRS score) in epileptic patients. Conclusion: There was a statistically significant relationship between serum level of ApoA, ApoB, and CRP with depressive condition of epileptic patients receiving long-term AED treatment.
