Asian countries dominate the global rice production and China tops the list producing 1,45,500 million tons followed by India (1,03,500 million tons). According to a projection of USDA, the rice area, yield and production will increase globally by 3.8, 7.2 and 11.3 respectively by 2025-26 (base year 2015-16). The highest rice productivity during 2015-16 was achieved by Japan (4.91 t/ha) followed by China (4.79 t/ha). Although India has the largest area under rice cultivation, productivity is quite low (2.4 t/ha). The demand for rice will grow in coming years at least to 2035 to feed the burgeoning population (FAO, 2017).","PeriodicalId":130917,"journal":{"name":"Research Biotica","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-06-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121758396","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Since CH4 has no nutritional value to the animals, its production represents a loss of 2-12 % dietary gross energy intake (Johnson and Johnson, 1995). Methane production not only reduces the efficiency of feed energy utilization but also contributes to global warming. Ruminant animals contribute about 18% of the global anthropogenic greenhouse (GHG) gas emissions mostly due to anaerobic enteric fermentation of feeds. About 37-44 % of global methane emissions are contributed by ruminant livestock and are a major source of methane production in the agriculture sector (IPCC, 2007). Therefore, reducing enteric methane production by dietary modulation of livestock feeding is one of the major strategies not only in view of clean animal production, but also increasing the utilization efficiency of feed energy in productive purpose. Vegetable oils, a source of poly-unsaturated fatty acids, have the potential to reduce enteric methane production. In all treatment groups (n=8), ASMM was supplemented @ 50 g cow -1 day -1 and @ 30 g cow -1 day -1 to crossbred and desi cows respectively. The control groups (n=8) of each experiment were without ASMM supplementation. In case of productive performance, milk production and milk composition parameters were studied for a period of 90 days of lactation where as dissolution of common reproductive disorders were screened for reproductive performance. Average daily milk yield in the crossbred cows supplemented with ASMM on 90 th day and 120 th day were 7.72 ± 0.19 L cow -1 and 7.52 ± 0.12 L cow -1 in contrast to 5.96 ± 0.14 L cow -1 and 5.63 ± 0.21 L cow -1 in the control group. Similarly average daily milk yield in the desi cows supplemented with ASMM on 90 th day and 120 th day were 4.17 ± 0.09 L cow -1 and 3.70 ± 0.08 L cow -1 in contrast to 3.06 ± 0.03 L cow -1 and 2.92 ± 0.04 L cow -1 in the control group. No significant supplemental effects on the milk composition parameters in all the groups were found. First postpartum estrus and number of AI per conception were lesser but conception rates were higher in both crossbred and desi treatment groups compared to respective control groups. It can be concluded that continuous supplementation of area specific mineral mixture enhanced the productive and reproductive efficiency of both crossbred and desi cows.
