It is demonstrated for a low symmetry material (quartz) and a minimum pole sphere covering by the measured spectra. The quality of the results underlines the efficiency of this new approach especially for time-of-flight neutron diffraction studies where access to the beam is limited. New interesting aspects for crystal structure refinement are discussed.","PeriodicalId":129427,"journal":{"name":"Textures and Microstructures","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133366861","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The qualifier large-scale is introduced to eliminate effects during the earliest stages of flow, where mono- and polycrystals behave differently: the authors will not consider easy glide in single crystals; and they will not consider the gradual transition, over perhaps ten times the elastic strain, to polyslip in polycrystals; or, for that matter, initial Lueders-type deformation in polycrystals. In terms of dislocation theory, they will consider the flow stress to mean the percolation limit of dislocations in areal glide. Dislocation theory will be used at a rather gross level. Experience has shown that many of the details of the interactions between dislocations and of their arrangement are of surprisingly little influence on macroscopic plastic behavior. They will present a latent hardening model that is based on the well established forest model of flow stress and strain hardening. They will present a latent hardening model that is based on the well established forest model of flow stress and strain hardening. They will then assess various pieces of experimentalmore » and theoretical evidence that limit the number and magnitude of the parameters and predict the direction in which they might depend on stacking-fault energy. Finally, they will summarize results obtained by polycrystal simulation in which the model was implemented. They show only marginal effects, and only in certain cases.« less","PeriodicalId":129427,"journal":{"name":"Textures and Microstructures","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124188829","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The orientation distribution function (ODF) of a polycrystal is seldom if ever determined directly from an experiment. Usually experimental data are represented by a set of pole figures (PFs), these latter are some integral projections of the ODF. The main problem of quantitative texture analysis is to recover ODF from its corresponding PFs. With any set of PFs the solution of this problem is non-unique. That is why some assumptions about ODF structure are necessary. We consider ODF as superposition of the canonical normal distribution (CND) on the rotation group SO(3).","PeriodicalId":129427,"journal":{"name":"Textures and Microstructures","volume":"51 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128549075","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These recrystalli.ation nuclei or newly formed grains usually emerge in regions ofhigh lattice curvature, where the orientation changes with a steep gradient from one matrix orientation to another. These regions were found first in a deformed Si-Fe single crystal to be consisted of finely banded structural elements, hence the name transition band (or rnicrobands) was given to these regions[I,2]. Later studies on heavily rolled copper and aluminum polycrystals also found similar regions oflarge lattice curvature believed to be the sites ofnucleation ofcube oriented grains[3,4]. However, the spatial distribution ofmicrostructure and orientation which develops in polycrystalline copper and aluminum after large reductions is very complex and has not at all been characterised. This complication adds to the uncertainties over the nature ofthe nucleation sites for recrystallised grains, and is particular for the formation of the cube oriented recrystallised grains in heavily deformed copper and aluminum that develops a strong cube texture upon recrystallisation. The present investigation was undertaken in an attempt to give further understanding on the origin of the cube texture in fcc metals. An aluminum single crystal with an initial orientation of (001)[110] was used. It is known that this orientation is unstable. Upon rolling deformation the crystal rotates about its 110] axis in the transverse direction (TD) toward the (112)[111 and (112)[ 1 111 orientations which are characteristic ofthe copper type rolling texture. Thedevelopment ofthe dislocationsubstructure inconnection with texturalchanges, as afunction ofstrain in channel die compression, and the orientation aspects ofnucleation duringrecrystallisation that leads to the formation ofthe recrystallisation texture, have been studied in considerable detail.","PeriodicalId":129427,"journal":{"name":"Textures and Microstructures","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114595407","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The frequent observation that the macroscopic structures are obliquely oriented with respect to the margins of the deformation zone gave rise to the hypotheses that the deformation path might be complex, and that the lattice preferred orientation of the rock-forming minerals should reflect such complicated deformation conditions as well. Hence, texture determinations of polyphase rock samples were carried out and the relationship of the mineral textures to the commonly used sample reference frame foliation–lineation, which is assumed to represent the principal axes of the bulk finite strain tensor, was investigated. It was confirmed that particular mineral textures are typical for different stages of the deformation path. Especially the quartz textures exhibit an uncommon but consistent deviation from the sample reference frame, which is consistent with respect to the geographical coordinates, too. Such a characteristic may be used to evaluate the direction of a large-scale horizontal shear component, which is known as the transpressive shear vector in the geological literature.","PeriodicalId":129427,"journal":{"name":"Textures and Microstructures","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116236780","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
