Monopulse technique, as a mature method for parameter estimation can be used on airborne radar, however, the estimation performance of this method is dramatically effected by the ground clutter and jamming components present, even when these components falls into the mainbeam interval. By combining the STAP technique with the monopulse technique, a new method for estimating the spatial-temporal parameters of moving targets is proposed and referred as to LC-STAM in this paper. Additionally, the proposed method utilizes the beam null, monopulse slope, and decoupling constraints to remove the worse influence on the beam shape from the mainbeam clutter, maintain the characteristic of the monopulse ratio, and increase the veracity of parameter estimation. The procedure is based on a dynamic thinning enforced to the array to move sidelobe nulls. Towards this aim, each element of the array is equipped with a radio-frequency switch which is used to connect/disconnect the element to the feeding network. While changing the thinning sequences, the number of active elements is kept as constant as possible to maintain unaltered the antenna gain. Numerical electromagnetic simulations were used to analyze and optimize the antenna parameters prior to fabrication. Such systems depend on the accurate positioning of aircraft and ground vehicles. Today, RADAR is the predominant method, but a RADAR based system might be both impractical and too expensive for small airports. Additionally, the redundancy of several independent systems is sought after even at large airports. We investigate the application of a low-cost circular microphone array solution for acoustic detection and tracking of aircraft. The shape of the array yields 360° coverage with equal characteristics in all directions. An algorithm based on sweeps performed with the Capon adaptive beamformer followed by peak detection and thresholding is implemented for real time use. This report was inspired by the work of Tayem and Kwon, who developed a fast algorithm for estimating 2-D DOAs using the propagator method (PM) of the L-shape array (PMLA). Although PMLA is efficient, its performance is inferior to the subspace based methods in terms of estimation accuracy. Moreover, the correlation information between the L-shape subarray sensors is not fully utilized. This motivates us to develop a subspace-based method by exploiting the L-shape array geometry and the cross-correlation information among sensor data. The Fast Fourier transform (FFT) is commonly used where zero-padding is required to minimize aliased spectral leakage. This paper presents a method of fast computation of the array pattern of a large uniformly distributed excitation of the antenna elements within an arbitrarily shaped aperture. The large 2D array factor may be approximated using physical optics and the Navier-Stokes (NS) closed-line integral (NSLI) provided that the array elements are spaced by less than λ/2. Beam steering is still accommodated utilizing this method. With this method, a uniformly excited array with any aperture shape may be evaluated. The method is based upon measurement of active element patterns and then processing of these patterns by Gram-Schmidt Orthogonalization procedure. As the mutual coupling effects are taken fully into account by element pattern measurement, the synthesized pattern is in excellent agreement with the real behavior of the array. Usage of orthogonalization guarantees the Least Squares Error for the synthesized pattern. Combining the technique in [1] with the proposed method, it is also possible to make Phase-Only Synthesis for a given array. The method was applied to 10 rows of X-band slotted waveguides each consisting of 44 slots. This novel approach is through joint frequency and spatial scan to establish both spatial and spectral knowledge of the local environment. With this information, we are able to establish the optimal frequencies and beam patterns to exploit the current environmental situation, including adding beam pattern nulls if required. This design is an effective solution in the common situation where strong interferences and spectral congestion is present and could affect system performance. Our cognitive beamforming array is able to then maintain communications while simultaneously tracking user locations and updating its knowledge of the spectral situation. The response of this system to different scenarios was explored through the use of Matlab simulations prior to hardware implementation of the system.
