A more ideal and efficient impulse noise filter, the ARSMF detects all the corrupted pixels even when the image is highly corrupted and restores them with a more perfect signal detected from an appropriate region whose dimensions vary adaptively with noise levels. This noise replacing signal does the dual functions of noise suppression and detail preservation than many other variants of impulse noise filters. We have used complex wavelet transform to obtain and manipulate pitch of the signal. The novelty of our model is extraction of wavelet 'pitch-scale' values, which correspond to average pitch value of signal's voiced frame. The phase matrix corresponding to this scale is altered keeping modulus unchanged. The pitch has been measured using autocorrelation in wavelet domain, both for unaltered frame and for modified frame. Majumder","doi":"10.1109/INDCON.2006.302794","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1109/INDCON.2006.302794","url":null,"abstract":"A theoretical analysis is developed to evaluate the bit error rate (BER) performance degradation of an optical heterodyne CPFSK system caused by signal phase distortion due to polarization mode dispersion (PMD) in a single mode fiber. The average BER performance results are evaluated at a bit rate of 10 Gb/s considering Maxwellian distribution for the differential group delay (DGD). The results show that the performance of optical heterodyne CPFSK direct detection system suffers power penalty of 0.75 dB, 1.95 dB, 4.00 dB and 9.15 dB corresponding to mean DGD of 20 ps, 30 ps, 40 ps and 60 ps respectively at a BER of 10 -9 operating at 10 Gb/s. Furthermore, at increased values of the mean DGD there occur BER floors above 10-9, which can not be lowered by further increasing the signal power. It is noticed that BER floors occur at about 2times10-8, 10-5 and 2.5times10-4 corresponding to mean DGD of 60 ps, 70 ps and 80 ps respectively at 10 Gb/s and modulation index of 0.50. A proper polarity selection of the subfunctions can not only reduce the number of BDD nodes, but also the switching. For a multi-output function, more the sharing between the subfunctions, more is the reduction in the number of BDD nodes so also the power. A genetic algorithm based output phase selection of the multi-output function (in BDD form) is proposed in this paper. This idea when applied to a number of benchmark circuits, it is found to reduce the number of nodes in the BDD and hence the area and power. A trade-off has also been done for combined area and power minimization, considering the node switching as the major candidate for power consumption. The proposed model extracts the information from the immediate coarser scale and adds the innovations to it to obtain the finer scale representation of the stochastic process. Basic block of the proposed model is the subband coder. By cascading the blocks of subband coder and passing white noise as one of input in addition to coarser information at each stage, cyclostationary process is generated. For generation of self-similar processes, white noise input for each stage is given in particular fashion. The mapping from finer scale to the immediate coarser scale is obtained using proposed blurring model. We have also given scheme for estimation of parameters of the proposed generation mechanism. The parameters are estimated for a given statistics case as well as the given data case. Our proposed method is applied in building ANFIS models for the benchmark example of Box and Jenkins gas furnace data and the thermal power plant of the North Eastern Electrical Power Corporation Limited (NEEPCO). By employing our proposed method the number of data required for learning in the ANFIS network could be significantly reduced to around one-eighth of that required for the conventional ANFIS method. The results obtained by applying our proposed method are compared with those obtained by using conventional ANFIS network. Other impairments like thermal noise, impulse noise and cross talk also cause further distortions to the received symbols. Adaptive equalization of the digital channels at the receiver removes/reduces the effects of such ISIs and attempts to recover the transmitted symbols. The multilayer perceptron (MLP), fuzzy logic (FL) and radial basis function (RBF) based equalizers are relatively new soft computing based equalizers which aim to minimize the ISI present in the channels particularly for nonlinear channels. However they suffer from long training time and undesirable local minima. In the present paper we propose a new adaptive channel equalizer using a novel bacterial foraging optimization (BFO) technique which is essentially a derivative free optimization tool. This algorithm has been suitably used to update the weights of the equalizer. The performance of the proposed equalizer has been evaluated and has been compared with its LMS based counter part. We have shown experimentally, the flexibility of this approach in classifying keywords into different domains based on their context. We have developed a prototype system that allows us to project keyword queries on the loaded PLSA model and returns keywords that are closely correlated. The keyword query is vectorized using the PLSA model in the reduce aspect space and correlation is derived by calculating a dot product. We also discuss the parameters that control PLSA performance including a) number of aspects, b) number of EM iterations c) weighting functions on TDM (pre-weighting). We have estimated the quality through computation of precision-recall scores.
