There are striking data showing the incidence, mortality, and recoveries as a result of the viral infection. With several preventive measures established by public health policy, the roll-out of COVID-19 vaccines has been one of the best measures to curtail the menace of the COVID-19. However, there are certain impediments enhancing the hesitancy in the uptake of the vaccine in Africa. Methods: A literature search was made using PubMed and Google Scholar using the following keywords “COVID 19 vaccine”, “knowledge,” “perception,” “vaccine uptake,” “vaccine acceptance,” “vaccine hesitancy”. Upon using the inclusion and exclusion criteria, relevant studies were selected to access the acceptance and hesitancy to the COVID-19 vaccine. Results: There are various contributory factors that decide acceptance or ensure hesitancy among the populace which includes: Age, education, gender, residence, household income, marital status, religion, information source, access to vaccine and vaccine equity, etc. Major concerns, barriers, and motivators about vaccination were highlighted. Existing data was used to show how each factor played role in the acceptance and hesitancy in the COVID-19 vaccine. Conclusions: This present study identified key factors that influence vaccine confidence, hesitancy, and acceptance in Africa and in turn proffer sustainable solutions that can be used to address these factors. Through a cumulative review of existing data about COVID-19 vaccine knowledge, confidence, acceptance, and hesitancy, we hope to make contributions that would highlight major influencers of vaccine knowledge and percentage in Africa.","PeriodicalId":121181,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Tropical Diseases","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133898661","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Three years after the arrival of GeneXpert at La Paix hospital, we carried out this study in order to assess its contribution to the diagnostic process. Methods: This cross-sectional, descriptive and analytical study focused on suspected tuberculosis patients whose pathological products were analyzed at the unit of microbiology of La Paix hospital of Ziguinchor, Senegal from January 2016 to December 2018. Results: Data from 2137 patients were analyzed. The sex ratio (M/F) was 1.3 and the mean age 41 ± 19 years. GeneXpert performed better in sputum (33.05%) and gastric fluid (25.54%). In 24.30% of cases, the GeneXpert was positive and the smear negative. In 14.86% of cases, the GeneXpert was negative and the smear positive. These cases refer probably to nontuberculous mycobacteria. Therate of resistance to Rifampicin was 3.1%. Male sex and age under 55 were significantly associated with high rates of GeneXpert positivity. Conclusions: The benefit of GeneXpert was evident in the diagnosis of clinical forms of tuberculosis and in the diagnosis of rifampicin resistance.","PeriodicalId":121181,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Tropical Diseases","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-03-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131374477","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study aimed to evaluate the antimicrobial susceptibility of P. aeruginosa isolates collected from a Vietnamese hospital in 2019. Methods: A retrospective review was conducted of all reports of P. aeruginosa isolates from the records of the laboratory of Nhan Dan Gia Dinh Hospital between January 01 2019 to December 31 2019. Results: Of 224 samples, the most common infection from which P. aeruginosa was isolated was pneumonia in hospitalized patients (49.1%) followed by skin and skin-structure infections (19,6%), and intra-abdominal infections (18.8%). The rates of isolates with MDR, XDR, and PDX were 7.1%, 20.5%, and 0.0%. Colistin was the most active agent overall (100.0%). Amikacin was the second most active agent, inhibiting 78.9% of all isolates. Other commonly used antipseudomonal β-lactams (cefepime, ceftazidime, imipenem, meropenem, and piperacillin-tazobactam) had susceptibilities for all isolates ranging from 68.0% to 70.9%. Ciprofloxacin and levofloxacin had overall 64.0%S and 61.8%S, respectively. Ticarcillin/Clavulanic acid was the least active antimicrobial tested with overall susceptibility of 38.1%. results highlight the of in infections and require urgent antibiotic stewardship programs effectively.","PeriodicalId":121181,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Tropical Diseases","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-03-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116156450","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
